mathematical club physical laboratory 7 p m tuesday april 28 — chemical society meets 7.80 p m electrical engineering so ciety physical laboratory 7 3"0 p m wednesday april 24 — ball game state college 3.80 p m aside from the fine work of both pitchers were petrikin's batting and lehigh's very stupid base running which as much as any thing else lost us the the game lehigh 3 u of n c 6 this was by far the best fielding game lehigh played on the trip cahill and bowie were the oppos ing pitchers and both did good work lehigh's inability to hit was the direct cause of her defeat score : baseball allentown 16 lehigh 14 yesterday's game was a hard one to lose and lehigh would not have lost had the team played through out as it did in the last three innings the men went into the game feeling that they were beaten and did not realize until too late that they could win the coaching was half-hearted listless and ill judged until mcclung appeared on the lines he should try to instil some of his own life and magnet ism into the team the base-running was slow and stupid and many bright chances for scoring were lost by weakness in this respect the fielding of the team at first was very poor but after the nervousness wore off a material improvement was notice able,and the benefit of the southern games came to the surface it was in their batting that the effect of recent practice was most noticeable however earely has a lehigh team done such hard consecutive hitting as that of yesterday nearly every man on the team distin guished himself in this respect lehigh will win on saturday with such batting goss caught well but was off in li is throwing to second bowie pitched in good form and was the only lehigh player who did any coaching thompson made a pretty catch of a swift line hit and neatly stopped some difficult grounders lukens although he made a fine catch in the eighth seems out of place in left field johnson batted in good form and fielded his position well and gan non played creditably the most exciting stage of the game was in the ninth inning when lehigh came to bat with the score 16 to 11 against her whitmoyer started off with a two-base hit and goss reached first on balls bowie went out on a fly to hallowell thompson got his base on balls thus filling the bases whitmoyer scored on johnson's single and lukens hit sent goss and thomp son across the plate with two more runs it looked like a tie at least,with men on third and second and only one out but the next two batters were easily retired taylor on an infield hit and cleary on a fly to center fourth inning lehigh's chances looked bright at this point georgetown by bunching her hits and assisted by lehigh's needless throwing succeeded in obtaining a lead which we were unable to overcome the grounds were very heavy from recent rains thus rendering effective out-field work out of the question bowie pitched fairly well but was very wild at critical points score : lehigh 9 u of va , 14 on thursday april 11 lehigh met the strong university of vir ginia team and again was defeated in this game lehigh's fielding was the worst of the trip virginia in the fourth inning by good stick work and lehigh's very poor field ing succeeded in placing ten runs to her credit and settled the issue of the game beyond doubt lehigh after recovering from her trance went to work to regain the lost ground and in the eighth and ninth caused virginia much uneasiness the lead obtained by u of va in the fourth was however too great to be overcome and lehigh was again compelled to accept defeat lehigh 9 trinity 7 on friday april 12 lehigh was victorious by the above score in this game a great improvement was noticed in both fielding and batting lehigh's outfield being veiy quick and efficient in hand ling the balls coming into their ter ritory bowie pitched well and was well supported by goss pet rikin's batting was the feature of the game score : lehigh 1 u of n c 2 the first game with north carolina was lost on thursday april 13 by the above score this game was by far the best and most interesting of the trip nevins and stephens were the opposing pitchers and the work of
