yesterday's game at princeton was a very pretty exhibition of ball playing barring the first in ning in which princeton scored seven runs none of which were earned the batting of both teams was poor princeton securing only eight scattered hits while lehigh made but two one of them being of a very scratch order lehigh's fielding showed a great improvement over that of pre vious games the game began at 3 o'clock with lehigh at the bat lukens struck out thompson hit to second but was thrown out at first gannon got first on four called balls petrikin reached first on an error at short gannon going to second then to third on a passed ball and scoring on a second passed ball on which petrikin took third senior struck out for princeton payne got his base on balls and stole second and third ward was sent to first on four balls bradley then hit a hard liner to whitmoyer which he misjudged and payne and ward scored bradley scored on altman's pretty two-bagger to right baston struck out guns ter got to first on a missed third strike and both he and altman advanced a base on a passed ball otto reached first on a missed third strike williams then hit to cen ter and altman and gunster scored otto went to third on the throw in williams going to second brooks hit to nevins but was fielded out at first otto scoring on the play 0 payne made a hit and williams scored ward went out in a fly to gannon ending the inning in the second inning bowie was fielded out at first on a hit to second goss got his base on balls whit moyer popped up a fly to bradley who threw to otto catching goss before he could get back to the base for princeton bradley made a pretty hit over third but died in the attempt to steal second altman went out on a high fly to right and easton hit to the pitcher and was fielded out at first lehigh was retired in order in the third on short hits to the infield in her half princeton scored two runs gunster went out on a ground hit to second otto was hit by a pitched ball and stole second williams struck out otto stole third and scored on a hit by brooks brooks stole second payne got to first on thompson's error and brooks went to third ward was sent to first on four called balls and bradley got first on nevins error brooks scoring petrikin threw to the plate in time to catch payne who was trying to score in the fourth gannon hit to short but was days and the weather out look in the morning was not en couraging wednesday afternoon proved to be almost an ideal one for lacrosse lehigh's opponents were the veteran combination team which represents the university of new york and although the visit ors were experienced players le high made them work hard for victory the game throughout was played with the spirit and dash which characterizes good work although lehigh's team work was spoiled in a way by the ab sence of a full team the team tricks throughout were of the first order n y u also played a fine team game as a whole the le high defense have improved since the crescent game for they covered better and used the body check more while to particularize dick's work was again conspicuous ; fitz gerald proved himself a reliable player ; and the work of mcdonald was nothing short of remarkable the n.y.u defense was greatly worried by the lehigh attack and if it had not been for sutorius superior playing in goal lehigh's score would easily have been doubled bartles dodging and massey s catching were noticeable crawford's opponent kelley,played the best individual work of the game for new york he was all over the field — yet the lehigh man harassed him greatly the attendance was large and the cheering during the early part of the game showed some of lehigh's old time spirit possibly the interest slackened on account of the numerous long delays the ball was faced off at 3.35 o'clock with ten men on a side two of the n y u players having failed to arrive on v time for nine minutes the ball passed about and then dick secured it from the n y u attack by hard defense work and sent it to mcdonald who tipped it to baldwin and he by a good shot passed it between the posts score lehigh 1 n.y u 0 during the next nine minutes sutorius twice stopped prospective goals and then crawford obtained it in a scrimmage ran in tipped to massey directly in front of the posts and the latter shot a clear goal time 18 minutes score : lehigh 2 n y u 0 directly after this goal mcdonald was cut under the eye but after a delay he resumed play once decasanova dropped the ball in front of goal from far off at the side but murray's long reach spoiled any good play which could result from this sutorius and bastress each saved a goal from being scored and then kelly shot from middle field and the ball passed four feet outside of the posts but manager brown allowed a goal lehigh argued but to no avail score : lehigh 2 n y u 1 time 28 minutes lehigh's defense did not play the fast game at this point that they showed early in the afternoon and a few minutes after the above goal kelly obtained a chance ran in to the side and scored again score : lehigh 2 n y u 2 the second half found n y u playing the more energetic game and lehigh playing hard but not skillfully however,in time,bartles obtained the ball and rolled it be tween the posts which feat brown failed to see but finally allowed time 4 minutes score : lehigh 3 n.y u 2 after this goal the ball was in lehigh's territory the greater part of the time and it was anyone's until dick amid much excitement passed it to baldwin and he to massey who
