cornell 2 hard defense work became the order on the part of lehigh yet purman got the ball in a scrim mage and scored cornell's earned goal score 3 to 3 kip baldwin and coleman shot before time was called but failed to score at the other end of the field purnam and strong worked well together but quick work on the part of dick the brown and white lehigh university south bethlehem pa may 13 1895 vol 11 no 59 calendar monday may 18 — agora meeting 7.30 p m . business meeting of glee and banjo clubs at sigma pjii house 7 p m tuesday may 14 — - meeting oi chemical society 7.s0 p m wednesday may 15 — baseball university of pennsylvania at philadelphia spring sports on athletic grounds 3 p.m thursday may 16 engineering society physical laboratory 7.30 p.m mr wolle's organ recital chapel 8 p m saturday may 18 baseball u s military academy at west point lacrosse johns hopkins om athletic grounds notices it is essential that as many mem bers as possible attend the business portion of the agora meeting this monday evening at 7 o'clock in christmas hall nominations of officers for the ensuing year will be made president the old journals of the engi neering society will be placed or sale to members only during the week beginning today and ending saturday may 18 after that any man can have the privilege to buy a list of the leading articles will be found on the engineering so ciety's bulletin board prices are fifty cents per volume four num bers and fifteen cents apiece there are five volumes in all let those who desire copies see trie president or drop a note in the box first come first served president the last meeting of the engi neering society will be held thurs day evening may 9 at this meeting the revision of the consti tution is to be adopted and the election of officers will take place let there be a full atten dance president there will be a meeting of the mustard and cheese tonight mon day 8 o'clock sharp at charlie's w w coleman pres there will be a business meet ing of the glee and banjo clubs this monday evening at 7 o'clock at the sigma phi house it is absolutely essential for all to attend j.w thurston mgr the l u christian association has started a fund for a proposed building on the campus past and future alumni members of the association will be asked to con tribute a specific amount yearly for ten years at the end of which time it is expected that money enough will be on hand to start building baseball lehigh 15 u s n a 13 lehigh journeyed to annapolis on saturday may 11 and defeated the cadets by the above score the game was one in which the old adage that the game is never over until the last man is out was aptly illustrated the cadets having the contest well in hand with the score 13 to 6 in their favor when lehigh went to the bat in their half of the seventh at this point lehigh took the long looked for brace and in the seventh and eighth batted out the nine runs necessary to win turner who started in to pitch for lehigh was batted freely and gave way to kevins in the third who finished the game pitching in good style lehigh as usual batted well but fielded poorly the features of the game were lehigh's plucky finish lukens clean fielding and henry's sensational stop of senior's hard drive the umpire was thoroughly incompetent his judg ment on balls and strikes being especially poor the game opened with the cadets at the bat and they scored two runs on littlefield's two-base hit a man hit by the pitcher and a very excusable error by gannon lehigh's half was unproductive in the second the cadets added five more runs by two two-base hits a triple a single a home run and errors by turner and senior lehigh got her first run in this inning on hits by thompson and nevins the cadets went out in one-two three order in the third and lehigh gathered four runs by a base on balls a man hit by pitcher and hits by petrikin and senior neither side scored in the fourth in the fifth the cadets added four to their total by two hits two bases on balls and errors by petri kin and bowie lehigh made one run on hits by petrikin and bowie and an error by monaghan no scoring was done in the sixth the cadets made two in the seventh on two singles and an error by petrikin lehigh now came in and on hits by lukens bowie and cleary and wild throws by mona ghan and lozer scored four runs the eighth is unproductive for the middies but lehigh kept up the pace and made five runs on a base on balls and successive singles by petrikin senior bowie thomp son and cleary with a lead of two runs lehigh sets to work to retire uncle sam's pets for the last time monaghan hit three times at the air and retired mccormack got four bad ones and stole second and third littlefield however followed mona ghan's example and retired to the bench ;
