those desiring to enter the oratorical contest of the state league must hand their names to the committee on or before mon day march 26 the preliminary contest will be held on saturday april 7 f a mckenzie 95 e a jacoby 95 r e lakamy 96 the entries in putting the 16 lbs shot were roderick 94 newbaker 94 senior 97 and gunsolus 97 the contestants came out in the order named above the winner's best put being 35 feet the second man put it 82 7-10 feet next were the preliminaries of the light weight wrestling in which lord 96 threw given 96 in about 30 seconds and rights 95 threw simpson 96 after about two minutes hard work the fence vault was another con test between two men in which hall 93 won over reineke 95 by a vault of 6 feet 5 inches the standing high jump was productive of very close competi tion but the decision was finally awarded to miller,96 who jumped 4 feet 6f inches ; second prize was won by olmstead 97 the other competitors were putnam 96 and merri man 97 the club swinging contest which followed was made noteworthy by the beautiful performance of doug las 91 who received first prize the other competitor was marck 97 then followed the final pre liminary contest of the light weight wrestling in which rights 95 threw hammond 97 in a well contested bout then came the preliminaries in the middle weight wrestling in which hilliard 94 threw moore 97 and best 95 secured a fall on hood 97 then came the finals in the feather weight wrestling between beeler,'93 and pflueger,'97,n"euffer 94 having forfeited the match was easily won by beeler in about one minute the running high jump which followed was very well contested the entries being yates 97 sharrer,'97 and senior/97 senior won first prize with a jump of 5 feet 4 inches ; yates was second having jumped 5 feet 3 inches . the next event was a boxing contest of three rounds between taylor 95 and douglas 94 it was rather a tame exhibition and the decision was awarded to tajdor who was easily the better then followed another three round go between tarleton 9s and pettit 94 tarleton won easily doing all the leading and hitting another preliminary in the middle weight wrestling then came off in which best,'9s secured a fall on ruggles 96 then came the finals in the light weight wrestling in which rights 95 came out victor over lord 96 and in the finals of the middle weight hilliard 94 secured the decision over best,'9s this closed the programme and one of the best attended and contested winter meets that has ever been held at lehigh came to an end the winter meet the annual winter meeting of the lehigh university athletic association was held at the gym nasium last saturday at 2.30 p m and was in every way an un qualified success the attendance was large and enthusiastic and the success of the occasion was also en hanced by the large number of the fair sex who were present the music was furnished by the banjo club which under the efficient guidance of their conductor charles pettinos esq played as only the lehigh university banjo club can play too much credit also can not be given to mr smith for the success of the meet was undoubted ly due for the most part to his own individual efforts the other offi cers and judges were also very effi cient the first event on the pro gramme was the horizontal bar on avhich a very pretty contest was given by putnam 98 and tan duyne 97 the decision was awarded to putnam the next event was the running broad jump which brought out seven men ; namely kussel 97 given 93 hood 97 schomberg 94 kip 9.4 ruggles 93 01 instead 97 first p*z was awarded to schomberg 94 who also had the honor of breaking lehigh's record by 4j inches ; his actual jump being 19 feet 1 inch euggles 90 was second who also broke the record his actual jump being 18 feet 11 inches on the parallel bars all the con testants having withdrawn except r s taylor 95 he gave a very pretty exhibition then came the preliminary con tests in the feather weight wrest ling the first match between neuffer 94 and pflueger 97 was simply a walking match not a sin gle hold being gotten at the end of ten minutes the judge mr ship ley called it off for the present the second match was between arbenz 95 and beeler 96 in which beeler came out victorious after a struggle of one minute and a half then came the running high kick which had resolved itself into a duel between worstall 96 and yates 97 both kicked 8 feet 10 inches but failed to go higher and as worstall won the toss up the the decision was awarded to him then came the last of the pre liminary contests in the feather weight wrestling between beeler 93 and walters 93 beeler se cured the fall the next event avhich was on the swinging rings was a contest between feats of grace and agility and feats of strength hilliard 94 doing the former and van ben themvan den bergh 95 the latter the decision was awarded to the latter who did some truly remark able feats the brown and white south bethlehem pa march 20 1894 communication no 19 editors brown and white gentlemen : a communication from the quarterly board in your issue of march 9 seems to demand a statement of facts from me at the end of my term of office i turned over a complete set of books papers and accounts to my successor ;
