lehigh 4 lacrosse lehigh's first championship game was played at clifton heights bal timore on saturday and resulted in a victory for hopkins but only after a hard fought contest the grounds being some distance from the city and the weather threaten ing there was not a large number of spectators several lehigh alum ni and old lacrosse men watched the game with interest ex-captains reese and symington were among these the game was started at 4.30 and the ball went down near the hopkins posts coleman's shot for a goal proved unsuccessful and the ball travelled up and down the field in quick succession finally after about eight minutes play straus secured the ball and tipped to symington who shot the first goal for hopkins soon after this the ball passed into the hands of the lehigh attack and baldwin tipped to hilliard who sent it to yon maur who shot lehigh's first goal score ito 1 about ten minutes more play elapsed during which time good stops of swift shots were made by both mitchell and buel and ord way made a beautiful stop of a shot from symington hedges finally scored a second goal for hopkins after a fine stop by buel of a pre vious shot four and a half min utes later straus tipped to janney who threw the third goal for hop kins after a long run a fourth goal was shot shortly after by sy mington after several unsuccess ful attempts to score lehiglrs pros pects were brightened by another goal by yon maur from a tip from polhemus score hopkins 4 ; lehigh 2 about three minutes from the end of this half hopkins shot her prettiest goal janney tipped from centre to symington and he to captain cameron who made a beautiful long shot score hop kins 5 ; lehigh 2 the second half began at 5.55 and after a hard skirmish near the lehigh posts roszel shot hopkins sixth and last goal the lehigh men played all the harder and soon massey shot a goal on a tip from hilliard the play in this half on the part of hopkins was on the defensive and several artifices were made to lose time among which throwing the ball away from the grounds and receiving pretended hurts played prominent parts le high made many unsuccessful tries for goal by yon maur and cole man and finally baldwin threw the ball between the posts score hopkins 6 ;
