or stopped by bastress the lehigh defense played well at this point sqoii after baldwin tried for goal but failed to score as sutorius made a fine stop several other shots by the lehigh attack were now stopped in quick succes sion and then the ball travelled down to the lehigh posts but the crescents were also unable to shoot a goal the end of the half soon fol lowed and no goal had as yet been shot by either team the second half began at 6 o'clock and after good stops by bastress and dick the ball was sent to the lehigh attack and yon maur secured the ball and tipped to hilliard who shot a pretty goal after about six minutes play a few minutes after eoberts secured the ball near the centre of the field and ran in and shot a goal for the crescents score ito l for the better part of this half the ball was in the hands of the lehigh attack but no further shots at goal were successful and the score resulted in the above tie when time was called the outlook for the game on saturday is a pennsylvania completed the forma tion of the intercollegiate debating union as this is the union to which the agora literary society has applied for admission the most prominent features of the work are given below the first object is to provide a program for the year by which all colleges of the union shall discuss the same question at the same time and the second is to encour age more frequent inter-collegiate debates arrangements have been made with a number of prominent magazines including the north american keview and public opinion to publish each month ar ticles bearing upon the question assigned for that month each college has one member on the general committee for every five hundred students but no college has more than four members it is quite probable that next year will see the architectural yourse transferred to saucon hall the large sale of epitomes as announced by the present board has been very encouraging to them baseball lehigh n lafayette 5 a fair-sized crowd saw lehigh down her old enemy yesterday af ternoon in the best game that has been seen here this season there was a delegation of about fifty from lafayette who cheered their team enthusiastically throughout the game and a larger number were kept away by the threatening weather the game abounded in good hitting and clean-fielding the work of sigman for lafayette and bray for lehigh being especially noticeable the game opened with lehigh at the bat and they started out from the very first to win the game after bray and petriken were out gadd made a single and cressman followed with a beautiful home run in her half lafayette started to even up the score holloway reached first in a scratch hit and stole second and third pomeroy struck out but barclay followed with a base hit scoring holloway criswell then forced barclay at second but the next two men drake and eothermel got bases on balls with the bases full gadd had a passed ball on which criswell scored but the side was imme diately retired by sigman's out from besers to senior with the score even lehigh batted out four more runs in thenext inning senior and bowie opened with base hits beggs then hit to third forcing senior orth made a safe hit and the bases were full on bray's hit to short-stop bowie was caught at the plate but petri ken cleared the bases by a beautiful home run over right-field fence lafayette added two more runs in their half on a base on balls to williams and two hits by pomeroy and barclay in this inning gadd who had been catching a very good game was forced to retire his place being filled for the rest of the game by goss gadd going to left field in the next inning lehigh was unable to score although she had men on second and third but lafayette added one more to her score in the fourth inning lehigh in creased her lead by a fusilade of hits and the bunching of errors by lafayette goss and bray got to first and second on hits and the bases were filled on williams error of petriken's grounder with the bases full gadd fouled out but cressman hit safely bringing in goss and bray on williams wild throw of thompson's hit petriken and cressman came in thompson going to third and on senior's single he also scored la fayette in her half was unable to score lacrosse crescents i lehigh i the lacrosse game between the brooklyn and lehigh men yester day resulted in the score of 1 to 1 the game was a very interest ing one and much pretty taping was indulged in by both teams although throughout the game many shots at goal were made the score was kept at a low figure by the excellent defense play of both sides bastress deserves special credit for many fine stops of other wise sure goals for the crescents the first half was forty-five min utes long while the second was shortened to thirty miuutes in order to enable the team to catch the train the general play of the men seemed better than in the game with hopkins on saturday and the changes in position of the players also appeared to bring about good results play began at 5.05 and the ball soon found its way towards the lehigh goal posts ; two attempts to score by the crescents proved unavailing the ball but sharp fielding and a scarcity of hits when they were needed left them there in the beginning of the fifth gadd left the game and mc clung took his place in left field in the sixth bray made a
