track games lafayette outclassed in the spring sports on saturday afternoon occurred the annual track games of the ath letic association to which as usual lafayette was invited to send con testants lehigh won 70 points out of a po.-sible 87 counting 5 points for first 2 for second and 1 for third the afternoon was any thing but pleasant a drizzling rain falling continuously which made the attendance discouragingly small eight men came up from easton to represent lafayette unfortu nately the captain of their team missed the train and arrived too late to take part in the events in which he was entered at about half past two haines 95 who was clerk of course announced the first event the 100-yard run five men took part in this and the ra,ce was close from start to finish olmsted lshigh 97 came in first mcoul lough lafayette 95 second and senior lehigh 97 third time 10 4-5 seconds the second event was the mile run in which lehigh won all three places wheeler 95 easily fin ishing first in 5 minutes 6 2-5 sec onds best 95 second and hil liard 94 third but three men ran in the 220-yard run olmsted lehigh 97 coming in first pol hemus lehigh 95 second and mccullough lafayette 95 third time 24 4 5 seconds eleven men were entered for the half-mile run but only six came to the line at the start the race was a good one and lehigh as in the mile run won all the points rus sell 97 boyt 97 and wheeler 95 coming in first second and third respectively the time was 2 min utes 18 4 5 seconds roderick lehigh 94 won the 16-pound shot contest with a put of 33 feet 8 inches ; newbaker lehigh 94 second with 33 feet 5 inches and rowland lafayette 95 third 32 feet 8 inches five men started in the 440 yards run and it was a very pretty race warner lehigh 94 was first his time being 56 1-5 sec onds ; second howell lehigh 96 ; third miller lafayette 95 no lafayette men ran in the 220 3'ards hurdle race arbenz 95 was first in this event running it ill 29f sec onds blein 96 was second and inches lafayette captured first very easily in throwing the ham lararny 96 third olmsted le high 97 surprised himself and the spectators in the ruiming broad jump it was the first time he had ever jumped in a contest and he broke the lehigh record by six inches the jump being 19 feet 7 inches ruggles lehigh 96 jumped 18 feet 11 inches and schomberg lehigh 94 18 feet 7 lacrosse 95 vs 96 on thursday afternoon 95 won from j 9q in a hard fought and well played game of lacrosse it was the best class game of lacrosse yet played and showed that there is good material in development for next year's team the ball started at 5.30 and after some sharp work at centre travelled up and down the field for about ten minutes being mostly near 95's goal then 95's defense threw far down the field and kip securing the ball tipped to miller who shot goal after about ten minutes more play fine stick work on the part of 95's attack brought the ball to 96's goal kip secured the ball and tipped to townsend who tipped to miller . miller shot goal five minutes later dick passed the ball far down the field to kip kip then tipped to miller who shot for forty yards making the cleanest goal of the game this was the third and last goal for 95 after some hard playing up and down field time was called for first half in the second half dornin went into goal for 96 and with other changes in their defense was effec tual in preventing 95 from scoring again although dornin was hit four or five times about ten minutes before time was called in a scrimmage before 95's goal the ball was kicked through as much by 95's efforts as by 96's boyer 96 is credited with this goal time was called with the ball in baseball lehigh 97 1 ;
