by david lewandowski seniors wishing to give to their class gift fund will have personal choices about where some of the total money will go the new allocation method was initiated by the class of 1965 memorial gift committee monday night at the campaign's kickoff dinner six different areas have been created to which participants in the campaign can specify the use of their gift explained william bingler 65 chairman of the com mittee the six areas are living ac commodations physcial plant or buildings and grounds other than living accomodation faculty salaries endowment meaning the university will decide how to use engineer is suspended for dormitory thefts a junior engineer was suspended indefinitely for theft from the residence halls and other departures from university rules a composite report from the dean of students the dean of stu dent life the director of residence halls and the disciplinary com mittee cited the student for illegal possession and use of a residence halls key for unauthorized entry into rooms and offices of the resi dence halls for the theft of a case of soda and for the misappropria tion without permission of an ice cooler first major changes packard lab renovated the gift athletics and general which includes such things as scholarships and any other prefer ences participants may have bingler also said that every single preference would be given an equal vote at the time of the gift allocation the allocation would be performed on a strict percentage basis immediately after the close of the campaign on dec 19 as an example of the percent age system bingler explained that if 500 pledges are received in total and 50 of these pledges speci fy athletics as a preference then 10 of the final value of the class gift would be given to athletics the goal of this year's class gift campaign which runs from nov 2 through dec 19 is 180,000 the money will be invested in either the massachusetts invest ors growth fund or the t rowe price growth stock fund the final decision as to which fund will be used is now under con sideration by the committee the committee selected the mu tual shares plan in preference to an insurance plan because of its superior potential yield subscribers to the program will contribute 20 or more to the fund see seniors page 6 vance packard will address parents tonight by bill reamy the most extensive packard laboratory renovations in its 34 year life are nearing completion most of the improvements are in the mechanical and electrical engineering departments dr ralph long head of the education dept leaves campus have been constructed along the north wall of packard lab's main laboratory complex the rooms will have benches and desks allowing the graduates to live and breathe with their projects each room will have sufficient gas air water and power connections so that small experiments such as studies of heat transfer can be made to the left of these rooms are four undergraduate electrical en gineering labs equipped with large see nfs page 7 vp addresses seniors — paul j franz vice-president for development and class advisor of the class of 1965 addresses the class memorial gift committee at the kickoff dinner held monday night he is suspended indefinitely from the university the suspen sion to start at the beginning of the 1964-65 spring semester and placed on disciplinary probation 1 with the residence halls declared out of bounds for the remainder of this semester in other actions an arts sopho more was formally repremanded assessed on disciplinary demerit dropped from english 2 for the spring semester and denied credit in the course with a final grade of wf for extensive use of two references in the writing of a theme for unauthorized removal of a text from the biology 2 and 12 lab oratory an arts junior was form ally reprimanded and warned see sophomore page 7 mechanical engineering depart ment said that much of his de partment's equipment is being re arranged in more compact quar ters in part so that room can be made for offices for graduate students as it is he said many of them have to work either in the noisy labs or in the university library dr long pointed out many of the changes made in lab and office space throughout the building three new general purpose rooms for m.e gradute students a lecture by vance packard noted social critic heads a list of academic extracurricular and athletic events scheduled for upperclassmen parents week end which begins tonight more than 3,000 persons are ex pected for the three-day program packard's lecture will be held at 8:15 tonight in packard lab auditorium and is open to the public it is sponsored by the residence halls council a speech by president w deming lewis will open tomor row's activities at 10:30 a m in packard lab auditorium frontier for the future the university's new color and sound film will also be shown visits to class rooms buildings study and research areas and the athletic fields will also be a part of the morning program at 11:30 guests will join faculty members for a luncheon in grace hall following the luncheon lehigh's football team will meet davidson in taylor stadium saturday's activities will close with a concert at 8:15 p m in grace hall the glee club and the band will perform the chapel service will high light sunday's events the department of education is moving from its campus office facilities and will open new head quarters at 520-524 brodhead aye on tuesday morning the department is closed during the relocation period which is new underway the campus building originally erected for temporary occupancy f bout 14 years ago will not be razed immediately said dr john a stoops head of the department he added that he knew of no specific occupancy planned for the building at this time the new location will house all offices of the department other than those serving the educational television and initial teaching alphabet programs which have been operating from separate facilities the brorihead avenue structure will also serve as a cur riculum and educational materials center renovation work on the three duplex unified structure began in mid-august stoops said the work included removal of interior walls replastering and repainting and enclosure of the front porch area safety precaution — painter applies no parking sign to former education department building note the sagging floor line toward the rear of the building members of the depart ment have heeded the ban — they will move to renovated office facilities
