millionaire industrialist and philanthropist who founded le high in 1865 in their addresses during the ceremony both dr lewis and dr neville called attention to asa packer's goal for lehigh to pro vide young men with a sound basis for successful living in the fullest sense of the phrase packer hoped also that the university would combine the acquisition of knowledge and skills fundamental to the profes sions with courses designed to broaden the vision and to enrich the personal life of the indivi dual president w deming lewis accepts the university charter and keys the symbols of his office from frank l magee first vice chairman of the executive committee of the board of trustees president w deming lewis busy weekend planned 2,200 parents expected new policy established on special car permits parents weekend guitarist to appear saturday sonatina — allegretto andante allegro by moreno torroba and fandanguillo soleares and ea faga by joaquin turina williams is visiting the university during his first major american tour he has been acclaimed for his artistry in europe the soviet union and japan he made his american debut in new york's town hall a year ago born in melbourne australia williams was 11 when he met the great master of the classical guitar segovia and began his studies under the interna tionally known artist one year later tickets for the concert are on sale at the office of public information and the student activities desk they will be available at the box office be fore the performance dean of students charles w brennan has announced new policy and procedures with respect to issuance and use of temporary motor vehicle permits this is being done to relieve the student from running from one office to another effective immediately all temporary student motor vehicle permits will be issued directly by the office of the dean of students in the alumni memorial building it will no longer be necessary for a stu dent to secure permission in the dean's office and then go to the office of buildings and grounds for his permit temporary permits may be is sued except as noted below for clearly established emergency rea sons only temporary permits will not be valid under any cir cumstances for more than one week issuance of temporary permits to students participating in house party weekend or in other speci fied social events will also be handled by the office of the dean of students on such occasions a permit may be issued to any student who has purchased a ticket for the specified social event as the concluding event on saturday a concert by classical guitarist john williams under the auspices of the committee on performing arts will be held at 8:15 p m in grace hall the program for the weekend is coordinated by the university's office of public information later in the day the residence hails council will present a spe cial tea for the guests in the asa packer room and osbourne room of the university center the guests will also be able to visit the all-university art ex hibit on the second floor of the university center lehigh university will entertain more than 2,200 parents of fresh men this weekend the program will include aca demic convocations art shows and teas ' a luncheon football game and concert special convocations of the university's three colleges at 10:30 saturday morning will offi cially begin the proceedings the college of engineering pro gram directed by dr robert t gallagher associate dean of the college will be held in the audi torium of packard laboratory dean w ross yates will direct the college of arts and science session in the osbourne room of the university center the con vocation for the college of busi ness administration directed by dean tl read tripp will be held in room 207 in drown hall all 2,200 parents sons and fac ulty will be guests of the univer sity at a luncheon in grace hall the freshmen football team will meet the bucknell frosh at 1:30 p m in taylor stadium a marching band made up of fresh men members of the band will also perform classical guitarist john williams will play works by many noted composers at 8:15 p.m saturday in grace hall the concert a feature of freshman parents week end js being sponsored by the committee on the performing arts williams hailed by andres segovia as prince of the guitar will open his program with over ture by s l weiss and suite in d minor — pre lude allemande gavotte passacaglia and gigue by robert de visee the intermission will be preceded by three sonatas by scarlatti allegro by mauro giuliani and
