bethlehem pa tuesday march 6 1962 matmen finish perfect season 866-0331 raiders crunched 4 seniors wrestle in last dual meet rabbi ben zion bokser see wrestlers page 8 career with a forfeit win at 137 curt alexander moved up a weight class and wore down stub born george young 5-2 curt's two reversals and time advantage lehigh s wrestling team swept to their first perfect season since 1943 as they crushed colgate's red raiders before a capacity crowd in grace hall coach gerry leeman's squad ground out four falls in bringing the season's leg to 12-0-0 these twelve victories broke last year's season record of 11 and the lacing was lehigh's fourth shutout of the year another record pat smartt kirk pendleton dave angell and jim detrixhe grabbed nifty pins as the defending e.i.w.a champs thoroughly outclassed a game but outmanned colgate crew detrixhe smartt pendleton and merriam also closed out the campaign with unblemished records the littel tiger got the rout started as he tossed jim gaita all over the mat merriam built up his lead gradually with takedowns reversals predicaments for an 11-4 pasting pat smartt completed an unde feated campaign as he threw mike demarrais in 3:32 lehigh's 130 pounder winner in many crucial early bouts this season showed fine form as he wrapped up the chenango valley lad with a bar hammer and chancery doug baillie a graduating sen ior finished out a fine varsity the coaches were all wet — but nobody thought so at least not after saturdays victory over colgate 34-0 which gave the engineer wrestlers their second undefeated season in four years following lockerroom tradition the happy grapplers took coaches gerry leeman and red campbell for a brief but dampening tour of the showers newman walter -- top speakers the english department newman spoke on the topic is the u.s.s.r duping the u.s on disarmament talks and walter chose the topic the scourge of giantism in business and politics other topics included jimmy rabbi bokser will give ten lectures howard c newman 64 and roger l walter 65 won first place prizes of 100 last night in the upperclass and freshman divi sions of the final round of the williams extempore speech con test in the davis room of the university center dune n r payne 63 and rich ard r hupka 63 won the second ; nd third prizes of 75 and sso n the upperclass division and ed gar l hoffman 65 won the sec ond prize of 50 in ihe freshman division announcement of the winners and awarding of prizes was made by dr j burke severs head of ?
