rutgers will oppose lehigh twelve at new brunswick hard practice this week match between fritz mercur ami carl fischer will be the features although the line-up has not yet been definitely decided the philadelphia college of osteo pathy tennis match promises to be very exciting one the reason for the delay is the lack of prac tice which the team has had owing to inclement weather and the poor condition of the courts the line-up will most likely be decided today or to morrow but one match is cer tain that between captaiu fish er of the visitors and fritz mercur last year lehigh wit nessed a heated match between these two men and this year's match promises to be even bet ter captain carl fisher is rated among the twenty leading ten nis players in the country but he will be given a stiff match by the lehigh ace this saturday meet will consist of four single matches and two doubles all of the brown and white men are ready for this initial meet and with the completion of this game it is expected that the racquet wielders will be pretty well warmed up «• dramatic club shows progress new songs dances and features have been added to former program muhlenberg here tomorrow many veterans will be present in brown and white line-up but in new positions close game is forecasted the baseball game with get tysburg scheduled for wednes day afternoon did not material ize because of rain and the heavy condition of the field so the season will be officially ush ered in tomorrow afternoon when the brown and white batsmen will oppose the nine representing muhlenberg although the lehigh tossers have not engaged in a game so far and opportunity for prac tice has been somewhat lirmved the development of the squad has progressed rapidly the men have performed excellently in practice and there has been close competition for several of the bertns muhlenberg has an exception ally strong team as most of the men who played last season are on hand and it will be remem bered that last year to date by the scarlet has been a practice game with a new york club last saturday billy o'neil's proteges made a very credlable showing in fact it was acclaim ed the best first game seen here for some time the weather which has been a jinx for all sports did not escape the stick men with less rain and snow this week the coach expects to develop cordination and team work so that a consistent and smooth working machine will meet the scarlet twelve tomor row several scrimmages were held during the week which showed that besides the twelve regulars bill o'neil will have a lot of good reserve university will present their annual home concert to night at the south side high school auditorium at eight thirty from all standpoints this concert should be the best that has ever been given by the le high musical clubs a varied and very attractive program has been arranged which includes as special numbers a cello and violin duet by g able and j waltman and a novelty song number of fred dotton and bob dalgleish of mustard and cheese fame there is also to be the regular program of song and musical numbers rendered by the entire club the musical club has had a very sucessful season up to date and it is hoped that the stu dents will support this home concert tp such an extent tnat the club will be able to continue with their out of town concerts the club's last concerts which were held at york and at leb anon pa proved to be such a success that the club was urg ed to make a contract for a re turn concert at these two cities next year the club has been very fortunate this year in hav ing mr mccose as their direc tor mr mccose who was grad uated from franklin and iwar shall with the class of 1923 has had many years of experience with musical clubs having been director of the f & a musical club during his undergraduate days a large part of the clubs success this season can be laid directly to the coaching of mr mccose and it is sincerely hop ed that he will direct the club next season the tickets for the concert can be secured from any of the members for 50 cents admis sion can also be paid at the door directly following the concert there is to be dancing with the famed lehigh collegians prob ably rendering the music railroad society to hold illustrated meeting capt carol leads scorers the annual interclass track and field meet was held monday and wedensday afternoons the meet was closely contested from start to finish and the class of 1927 was first with a total of 48 points the juniors were second with 46 points to their credit the seniors were third with 34 points and the sophomores were fourth with 26 points the meet was originally planned for last saturday but owing to the snow storm it was postponed until the beginning of this week it was necessary to hold it in two parts because of the limited time the field events were held on mon day and the track events on wednesday with the exception of the mile run which was held on monday in conjunction with the field events since this was the first com netition of the season for the brown and white trackmen the performances were not as good as will be turned in later in the year in addition all the track events were run under adverse conditions resulting from the stiff wind on monday and the rain on wednesday there were several outstand ing performers in this meet captain carol lead the individ ual scoring with 13 points to his credit he was closely loi lowed by two other men who had eleven points each these men were croll of the class of 25 and sanford a senior beegs 25 the country the publicity commit tee of lehigh university have taken an active part in the pro motion of this project the competitors for assistant stage manager have been hard at work in constructing much of the stage paraphernalia under the direction of stage manager villaume with such rapid progress re sulting from the hearty co-op eration of all those concerned with the play success is cer tain and when the time comes for the sale of tickets all will be prepared for the opening night a cup is to be awarded to the most popular lehigh athlete by the veterans of foreign wars the contest is conducted through the columns of the bethlehem globe and bethle hem times which publish daily ballots which can bo filled out and sent to them the idea was originated by sergeant lavin and was immediately greeted with favor by all every one is entitled to vote and indications p.re that a large number will be cast the contest opened mon day and closes saturday up to wednesday over five hundred votes had been cast ami more are coming in every minutes at the interfraternity coun cil meeting held monday even ing in drawn hall the council passed on the rushing rules for next year and also went on record as being in favor of sup porting the expression of the arcadia which is as follows that any student guilty of being intoxicated at any univer sity function shall be brought before the arcadia and punish ed for the offense that the ar cadia shall do everything in its power to arounse sentiment within the student body against the use of intoxicating liquor this action was taken in fur therance of the responsibility toward observance of law and citizenship among college stu dents of america the rushing rules as adopt ed by the council to go into ef fect next september are as fol lows rushing rules 1 there shall be a rushing period of ten 10 days 2 a man entering lehigh for the first time may not be pledg ed or offered a bid prior to the close of this period either be fore or after college opens 3 this period shall consist of ten 10 days of actual rush ing beginning « ith the official opening of college this period will be followed by a period of silence from 12 noon to 6 p m of the last day during which lime any alumni as well as ac tive chapter fraternity men may not speak to new students 4 the bids shall be written invitations which shall be sup j plied by the inter-fraternity council and shall be distribut ed at the beginning of the si lence period by laws section 1 judicial committee j a a judicial committee of ; seven shall be chosen to serve i for one collegiate year and j shall be chosen by drawing ; i jind shall consist of five students ! and 2 faculty members if any of the seven are vitally connect ed with the case an alternate will replace him b it shall be the duty of the judicial committee to judge imd punish each and every in fraction of the constitution eli gibility rules rushing rules and by-laws as provided by these by-laws upon the demand of any fraternity in this coun cil c a 5-7 vote of the judicial committee shall be necessary to j*ecm*e the conviction of any fraternity brought before the committee section 2 penalties for infrac tion a if any fraternity being a member of the inter-fraternity council shall break any of the rushing rules the penalty for the first offense shall be that the offending fraternity shall suspend all rushing and pledg ing for that collegiate year ; and that the rushee or rushees con cerned shall have his or their pledges withdrawn b for a second offense occurring within four years of the first the offending fratern ity shall suspend all rushing and pledging until the second tern of the following college year c to be passed by facul ty any infringement of the de cision of the judicial committee shall be punished by not allow ing any member of that frater nity in question to take upon himself any college honor with he exception of any scholastic honorary society section 3 a important meeting held to arouse dean mcconn and j f rog ers 24 attended the college and university students con ference in behalf of observance of law and citizenship which was held in washington last saturday and sunday the to tal registration at the confer ence was 206 composed of 175 students and 31 faculty mem bers from 80 different colleges and universities it was the purpose of this conference to try and stir up the sportsmanlike attitude toward the law and constitution of he i'lrted states by the young mer or america who are attending institutions of learning hie college men of america should take it upon themselves to act as good citizens and abide by the laws of their nation and take measures to prohibit the use of liquor at college func tions as the above figures show his question of drinking in the american colleges is approach ing a point where not only the faculty but the students as well are trying 1 to put a stop to drinking and the use of intoxi cating leverages the lehigh track and field team will make its initial bow to the followers of the cinder track tomorrow the team is scheduled for a dual meet with dickinson college which will be staged at carlisle pennsylvania on biddle field this is the first dual meet for both teams and for this reason there is little information regarding the com parative ability of the two con tenders there are several outstanding men on the dickinson team these were heavy scorers for the red and white trackmen last year and may be counted upon for good performances to morrow coach pop craver has been putting his men through stiff work and is con fident that they will make a credible showing prominent among the dickinson trackmen is ex-captain templin who is and has been the mainstay of the team at carlisle it is prob able that he will enter the limit number of events and he is ex ceptionally brilliant in the broad jump and the hurdles in addi tion to these he will enter the discus and shot put in wallace there is a man holding a col lege record in the high jump carpenter set a new college rec ord in the javelin throw al workman holds the two-mile championship while kenworthy has the present record for the pole vault schrank is a veteran hurdler who is expected to make a creditable showing these and others who have set enviable records last year will comprise the team which will oppose the lehigh team at carlisle this meet will be the first dual meet for the lehigh track men but the inter-class meet has just been completed this served the purpose of bringing to light the ability in the men who are out for this sport the winners of first and second places in the events in the inter class meet will probably be se lected to make the trip to car lisle the freshmen made an especially creditable showing by winning this meet the team se lected finally will leave friday evening for harrisburg the next morning they will continue the journey to carlisle coach kanaly manager stanley haus or and assistant manager as tarita will accompany the men on the trip the selection of the team will be made from the following men according to present information 100 and 220 carol croll and burne man 440 croll and cox ; one half mile harris and siegmund ; 1 mile barba and brandon 2 mile fulton and swinton 220 low hurdle carol and egolf 120 high hurdle smith and beggs high jump fry and sheppard ; pole vault meyers ; discus gisriel and roth javel in throw carol and raleigh ; broad jump sanford and kit tenger shot put gisriel and roth captain jose carol will lead the team the opposition is expected to be very strong judg ing from the past records of the dickinson track team in spite of this fact the men on the squad are confident of a victory it will be a great impetuous to the team to start off its season with a victory many interesting speakers aid in making affair successful the junior banquet of the class of 1925 was held on thursday evening at the hotel bethlehem a splendid progi-am was arranged by the committee and all the juniors who attend ed were pleased with the affair and proclaimed it a great suc cess in every way the junior class banquet committee who arranged for the successful program was composed of m j callow a h campbell e a curtis a c dußois and l c wolcott m j callow acted as chairman of the committee and was in a great measure responsible for the ex cellent program of the evening the committee had arranged for six speakers all of whom are familiar campus figures and well suited to give an ideal and varied intellectual treat this list of speakers were dr c r richards dr n carrotiiers prof h r reiter prof h eck feldt prof c s fox and capt bell all chose topics which were closely connected to the fields in which they are most in terested with the result that the speaking porgrani was highly varied and suited the tastes of all who attended mr j t anthony vice-president of the american arch co will deliver address tonight there will be a very interesting meeting of the raii road society of lehigh univer sity it will be held in the phys ics lecture room at 8 p m the principal speech is to be given by mr j t anthony who is at present the vice-pres ident of the american arch company of new york city he is a graduate of the university of georgia and after finishing there was employed as an engi neer with the central railroad of georgia since leaving this company he has become actively connected with the american arch company tonight he will deliver an illustrated addi'ess on fundamentals of locomotive boiler design this lecture collegiate year and j shall be chosen by drawing ; i jind shall consist of five students ! and 2 faculty members if any of the seven are vitally connect ed with the case an alternate will replace him b it shall be the duty of the judicial committee to judge imd punish each and every in fraction of the constitution eli gibility rules rushing rules and by-laws as provided by these by-laws upon the demand of any fraternity in this coun cil c a 5-7 vote of the judicial committee shall be necessary to j*ecm*e the conviction of any fraternity brought before the committee section 2 penalties for infrac tion a if any fraternity being a member of the inter-fraternity council shall break any of the rushing rules the penalty for the first offense shall be that the offending fraternity shall suspend all rushing and pledg ing for that collegiate year ; and that the rushee or rushees con cerned shall have his or their pledges withdrawn b for a second offense occurring within four years of the first the offending fratern ity shall suspend all rushing and pledging until the second tern of the following college year c to be passed by facul ty any infringement of the de cision of the important meeting held to arouse dean mcconn and j f rog ers 24 attended the college and university students con ference in behalf of observance of law and citizenship which was held in washington last saturday and sunday the to tal registration at the confer ence was 206 composed of 175 students and 31 faculty mem bers from 80 different colleges and universities it was the purpose of this conference to try and stir up the sportsmanlike attitude toward the law and constitution of he i'lrted states by the young mer or america who are attending institutions of learning hie college men of america should take it upon themselves to act as good citizens and abide by the laws of their nation and take measures to prohibit the use of liquor at college func tions as the above figures show his question of drinking in the american colleges is approach ing a point where not only the faculty but the students as well are trying 1 to put a stop to drinking and the use of intoxi cating leverages the lehigh track and field team will make its initial bow to the followers of the cinder track tomorrow the team is scheduled for a dual meet with dickinson college which will be staged at carlisle pennsylvania on biddle field this is the first dual meet for both teams and for this reason there is little information regarding the com parative ability of the two con tenders there are several outstanding men on the dickinson team these were heavy scorers for the red and white trackmen last year and may be counted upon for good performances to morrow coach pop craver has been putting his men through stiff work and is con fident that they will make a credible showing prominent among the dickinson trackmen is ex-captain templin who is and has been the mainstay of the team at carlisle it is prob able that he will enter the limit number of events and he is ex ceptionally brilliant in the broad jump and the hurdles in addi tion to these he will enter the discus and shot put in wallace there is a man holding a col lege record in the high jump carpenter set a new college rec ord in the javelin throw al workman holds the two-mile championship while kenworthy has the present record for the pole vault schrank is a veteran hurdler who is expected to make a creditable showing these and others who have set enviable records last year will comprise the team which will oppose the lehigh team at carlisle this meet will be the first dual meet for the lehigh track men but the inter-class meet has just been completed this served the purpose of bringing to light the ability in the men who are out for this sport the winners of first and second places in the events in the inter class meet will probably be se lected to make the trip to car lisle the freshmen made an especially creditable showing by winning this meet the team se lected finally will leave friday evening for harrisburg the next morning they will continue the journey to carlisle coach kanaly manager stanley haus or and assistant manager as tarita will accompany the men on the trip the selection of the team will be made from the following men according to present information 100 and 220 carol croll and burne man 440 croll and cox ; one half mile harris and siegmund ; 1 mile barba and brandon 2 mile fulton and swinton 220 low hurdle carol and egolf 120 high hurdle smith and beggs high jump fry and sheppard ; pole vault meyers ; discus gisriel and roth javel in throw carol and raleigh ; broad jump sanford and kit tenger shot put gisriel and roth captain jose carol will lead the team the opposition is expected to be very strong judg ing from the past records of the dickinson track team in spite of this fact the men on the squad are confident of a victory it will be a great impetuous to the team to start off its season with a victory many interesting speakers aid in making affair successful the junior banquet of the class of 1925 was held on thursday evening at the hotel bethlehem a splendid progi-am was arranged by the committee and all the juniors who attend ed were pleased with the affair and proclaimed it a great suc cess in every way the junior class banquet committee who arranged for the successful program was composed of m j callow a h campbell e a curtis a c dußois and l c wolcott m j callow acted as chairman of the committee and was in a great measure responsible for the ex cellent program of the evening the committee had arranged for six speakers all of whom are familiar campus figures and well suited to give an ideal and varied intellectual treat this list of speakers were dr c r richards dr n carrotiiers prof h r reiter prof h eck feldt prof c s fox and capt bell all chose topics which were closely connected to the fields in which they are most in terested with the result that the speaking porgrani was highly varied and suited the tastes of all who attended mr j t anthony vice-president of the american arch co will deliver address tonight there will be a very interesting meeting of the raii road society of lehigh univer sity it will be held in the phys ics lecture room at 8 p m the principal speech is to be given by mr j t anthony who is at present the vice-pres ident of the american arch company of new york city he is a graduate of the university of georgia and after finishing there was employed as an engi neer with the central railroad of georgia since leaving this company he has become actively connected with the american arch company tonight he will deliver an illustrated addi'ess on fundamentals of locomotive boiler design this lecture
