10 seek arcadia jobs class gift dinner — 24,000 was pledged by campaign workers during the kickoff dinner of the senior class memorial gift campaign speaking at the ceremonies president neville emphasized financial problems facing private educational institutions 24,000 was pledged in the first hour of the two week drive for contributions to the senior class gift fund at the kick-off dinner monday night 65 cam paign workers promised to give nearly 20 dollars a year for the next 20 years to the class memorial gift program the putnam growth fund a mutual shares plan was chosen earlier this year dr harvey a neville university president told the more than 100 seniors attending the kick-off dinner that a degree is like a stock certificate — it fluctuates in value with the progress or lack of progress of the university dr neville warned that lehigh cannot stand still but must progress education is the most im portant factor in our western culture and this sys tem makes the difference between our country and those like latin america he emphasized the importance of dealing with the problems of higher education mainly the con flict between the dual system of education public and private institutions while this dual system represents a healthy sit uation dr neville warned it can go too far for the best interests of all previously there was an even balance between the two systems but in recent years the number of public institutions has risen while private schools are disappearing from the educational scene dr neville noted that fourteen state teachers colleges in penn sylvania have become state col leges and expanding state funds for this type of institution in the ivy league other signifi cant successes were scored by the packers in their houseparty game with colgate and in their desper ate last-minute recovery over tra ditional rival lafayette delaware and rutgers prevented an unblemished record for the packers outstanding team cooperation has marked the packers activities this year boyd taylor was top ground gainer although walt king also demonstrated a formidable at tack fine line play by mike semches ki and reed bohovich overpowered competition and new co-captains pat clark and charlie gibson de livered clutch performances offen sively and defensively bratt to speak tonight on economic conditions 63 religious life dennis way son 63 honoraries donald boster 64 and ifc no appointment to date candidates for next week's elec tion are carl l mcconnell 64 alan c eckbreth 64 barclay hall griffiths 64 robert p hess 64 michael histand 64 bruce e lein star 64 richard h lipstein 64 michael reich 64 r steven schiavo 63 and stuart zimmer man 63 ballot boxes will be found in drown hall packard lab christ mas-saucon hall and at the south door of the university center op posite the supply bureau arcadia elections traditionally employ the harp system of ballot brown and white arcadia candidates platforms — see page 5
