session on a committee of the whole motion proposed by president michael a moran 62 officials refused to comment publicly on the closed door proceedings dr harvey a neville president of the university surprised the solons by sitting on the public ses sion the committee to consider changes in arcadia was approve 1 after three previous suggestions by michael a vianello 63 hail failed to get enough votes to be approved vianello first suggested that con sideration be given to the idea of setting up a general body com posed of one representative of each living group on campus and an executive body of a smaller num ber which would do most of the preliminary work for the group david r phelps g2 rem rke<l that there are some 72 living groups in the university and this number might prove too large to be effective vianello proposed instead that the question of the popular elec tion of the president of a"cadia be put to the student body to vote on when the arcadia elections take place in december the proposal was defeated the constitutional amendment concerning the changing of the title of the president of arcadia to the president of the student body which failed to get enough votes in last spring's election was de feated by one vote to be placed on this fall's ballot vianello requested moran to take a vote-'-'of the arcadia mem bers to determine : whether they felt soniething was shocked to find their football team playing harvard this season are in for even greater surprises in the years to come gen percy l sadler director of athletics told the brown and white in an interview last wed nesday that by 1968 lehigh will be playing nearly half the season against ivy league schools general sadler said he con ceived the idea of playing ivy schools back in the late 19405 soon after he took the post of athletic director at lehigh it was back then the general said that he began to think that lehigh should compete with the ivy he added they were not see sadler page 4 ej-dia's the mem bership of arcadia by three — a member of the freshman class sophomore class and the junior see dr neville page 7 the new york pro musica one of the nation's top chamber music groups will be the next offering of the committee on performing arts the pro musica will perform in packer memorial church on friday nov 10 at 8:15 p.m the sponsoring grou p was formerly known as the student concert lecture series committee lehigh faculty staff and stu dent body will be admitted free as in the past local residents will be admitted free the ensemble recreates the music of the renaissance and pre-renai ssance periods and features music from the baroque period songs from the elizabethan era are also sung touring europe last summer the new york group was augment ed to 37 and gave the first modern showings of medieval music drama outside the new york revivals fea tured during the last several christmas seasons the pro musica gave a perform ance of the play of daniel in westminster abbey and gave reci tals in other historic buildings across europe normally the group is composed of 11 members — two sopranos a counter-tenor a tenor a baritone and a bass and four instrumental ists who white since the appearance of tropic of cancer almost 30 years ago the world has debated the literary value of henry miller's much celebrated and little understood novel of post-world war i paris northampton county district attorney an drew l herster resolved the issue yesterday the district attorney has declared the novel the filthiest thing i've ever read charged that there is no literary value in a book such as this one acting under the pennsylvania obscene literature statute herster has requested bethlehem and easton wholesale distributors to remove the books from their shelves vol untarily he reports guarantees of compli ance from the easton and bethlehem dis tributors police of both cities have been directed to by george keiser northampton da bans henry miller's tropic prosecute any violators of his order accord ing to herster in a telephone interview with the brown and white herster stated that he had not it ad the entire work i have read many pages ... i have read enough of the book to form an opinion of my own that the book has no place in our society herster stated it is not fitting for people of this county to have this book in their homes for children to see he continued i have a duty to act on this issue con cluded herster this sort of book leads to juvenile delinquency herster told local newspapers he had been contacted by pennsylvania attorney general david stahl who informed the district at torney to make his own decision on the dis tribution of the book reportedly stahl is wmw organizing an investigation of tropic citing a statement by carl sand burg herster said miller must have been sick when he wrote this book in a comparison of the miller work with lady chatterly's lover the district attorney pro tested that the d h lawrence see
