barbara sally annick friday april 28 1961 francine hp queen semi-finalists they're annick sally barbara and francine vol 72 — no 45 in an all-campus ballot stunners annick barbara francine and sally were elected semi-finalists in the houseparty queen contest with more than 1,000 ballot cast balloting was very close only four votes separated the fourth place semi-finalist and the fifth place com petitor the winners have varied backgrounds and come from as far away as estonia and france and as close as northampton near easton francine harris the date of joe stammler m-m a-3 is a sopho more in high school who lives in south orange n.j she likes horseback riding dancing and liberal parents barbara rojas the date and wife of rodrigo rojas theta xi is a graduate of cedar crest and a lehigh graduate student she is inter ested in music and dramatics — participating in the last mustard and cheese production the streets of new york annick gilormini the date of bob henning a freshman in dravo d-3 is an exchange student from marseille france attending garden city high school she's interested in water skiing swimming and sail ing she speaks four foreign languages and likes jazz sally salve the date of gryphcn mike gordon is a sophomore at syracuse university born in estonia she came to the u.s eight years ago at syracuse she is on the dean's list and is a member o a na tional woman's honorary she's a model in the summer and has been on tv nationally her interests include swimming skating basketball and field hockey from these four girls the houseparty queen will be chosen louis armstrong and the chaperones will be the judges russell borner junior class president will crown the selected queen at the end of tonight's dance by j j stives out of the void and chaos of tortuous academic endeavor comes that time long awaited by the men of lehigh . . . the first night of spring houseparty the labors of the lehigh student promise to be unusually reward ing this time however for the le voia ou en anglais housepartyn out across the cooling meadows the troops will turn and roll their empty kegs towards home and pre pare for the invasion of houses all night long at three in the morning it'll be home again ... for a few hours of rest before the bloodshot dawn if the old trend is any indication of what is to come sunday lunch will bear remarkable resemblance to finnigan'a wake and men and their dates will begin to think of the sob long days ahead sunday night is always a sorry thing to behold the campus now suddenly girlless once again sinks into the old routine of double double toil and chemical engineer ing and the rotc boys will soon replace the dancing couples on the upper floor h party themes from ubangis to susie wong by ed raynolds house-hoppers making the rounds of fraternity parties tomor row night can look forward to a variety of themes and bauds to round out the weekend here is the breakdown of tomor row night's activities at the 30 fraternities a prison break is alpha chi rho's theme the jailbird party will feature an unnamed four-piece band alpha sigma phi's speakeasy party will recreate those sadly lamented prohibition days the vagabonds will provide music for the roaring twenties affair alpha tau omega will go wilt west ernie ransom and the kid nappers will hold forth musically along with the shotgun kelly see go page 4 junior class has made plans ex ceeding those of the normandy invasion in complexity and detail the battle strategy begins with a dance tonight from nine to one featuring louis satchmo arm strong and his all stars satch and his group will blow the dixie land and jazz sound across a french cafe-styled dance floor for jazz dancers and listeners alike as they sit or wander among the cafe tables on the lower floor another innovation this spring will be the serving of punch to the guests rather than the customary coke with old new orleans dominat ing the lower floor of grace hall bob mcclister and his country club band will entertain couples on the upper floor decorations will emphasize the new orleans atmosphere with lamp posts and a starry southern sky to complete the romantic cafe touch one a.m saturday will find couples returning to fraternity houses for parties aad entertain ment until 3 when the hooch etc will cease to flow from the bottom less barrel a somewhat sobering coffee hour will be followed by the tong pathetic and silent parade across the mountain to various uncom fortable encampments by the sod den soldiers now weary from the night's tiring pursuits tomorrow will find all awak and alive (?) once more to face the day and the dates for brunch in many houses and later partake in picnics at several locations throughout the budding pennsyl vania countryside if nature is kind as she has been for so long in the past history of spring houseparty the after noon will be spent in a happy brawl through the fields and woods with couples occasionally getting lost among the flora later as the sun sinks wearily into the west and the fumes spread ain't we great — three revelers from some houseparty some time sip smoke and make very small but intensely sophisticated talk their sentiments about life love and the price of beer are sure to be echoed a few hundred times this weekend by equally in tense devoted party-goers parties small and intimate will be held by each of the fraternities and upper-class residence halls brown and white
