represented in three events at final indoor meet the brown and white track team will experience their last indoor competlpn of the year when they joutney to newark n j on saturday at this time they will compete in the twelth annual indoor athletic meet un der the auspicefe of the newark central high school which will be staged in the 113 th regi ment armory the meet will be among the moist important of the year since the seventh na tional interschiolastic champ ships will be hejd in conjunction with the events for college ath letes lehigh will ik represented by a mile relay te^m and two in dividual entries the relay team is entered in the class b invi tation mile it is not yet known definitely what colleges will furnish the competition but it is likely that new york univer sity will be among those to face the starter in this race it is cer tain that neither lafayette nor rutgers will be represented the men who will comprise this relay team have not yet been picked definitely but those who will carry the baton will be se lected from the following sieg mund croll springsteen scott and huckins captain carol will also represent the brown and white as he is entered in the representa tives from the various technical companies and organizations are commencing their activities | in interviewing lehigh seniors with the purpose of obtaining and securing probable and per manent employment for the graduate each year large cor porations endeavor to sign up college graduates for responsible positions along supervisory lines many a lehigh student has stepped into large shoes through being interviewed by a representative of some long-es tablished corporation and the practice of personal interview with the students has already begun the chemistry department has no definite representatives | each year from any several firms but graduates of the chemical course are employed by firms of all types of manufac ture in which chemistry is in volved in some way or manner the electrical department has been visited by representatives of the western electric general electric westinghouse and nu-j merous other corporations of good repute in most every de partment the standard oil company has been seeking com petent engineers mostly for the foreign field and lehigh has been well covered by their rep-i resentatives the mining and metallurgical departments seldom have visit ing representatives who come for the sole purpose of inter viewing the graduating class most of the inquiries that are entered by such companies come in the form of correspondence and straight win over the latter the faculty team is in good shape at the present time and are anxious to hear from the lafayette faculty about a pronosed match the following faculty repre sentqd the team at the above game captain pulsifer beav er kreidler bell chance and graham the railroad society of le high university will hold its regular monthly meeting in the physics lecture room at eight o'clock this evening the speak er of the evening will be mr george m basford of the g m i basford company who will de liver an address on the con servation of locomotive fuel this is one of the most import ant problems that the railroads of to-day are attempting to solve and the meeting should prove to be of great value to students interested in railroad ing or any other branch of en gineering where the conserva tion of fuel has become the out standing question in addition to the address there will be a model of a feed water heater by means of which mr basford will endeavor to illustrate his address mr basford visited lehigh two years ago in the same ca pacity in which he will appear friday evening and if his speech delivered at that time may be taken as a criterion the ad dress to-night should be very in teresting mr basford was gard uated from massachusetts insti tute of technology in 1889 and has been employed by several railroads in all parts of the country some of these were the boston and maine chicago burlington and quincy union pacific chicago milwaukee ana st paul and the johnson rail way signal company several years after graduation mr bas ford became editor of the me chanical department of the railway and engineering rec ord and in 1897 he was appoint j ed editor of the american engi neering and railway journal several years later he was ap pointed assistant to the presi dent of the american locomo tive works and after holding this position for a few years he resigned to assume the office of president of the locomotive feed water company and the g m basford company at the present time he also serves as a consulting engineer for the lima locomotive works georgia enters debating arena college nine may tour europe georgia tech is one of the re cent technical schools to enter the field of intercollegiate de bating a debating council com posed of three members of the faculty and two students has been formed to arrange the con tests cast reports in afternoons and chorus at night — vacancy filled the mustard and cheese dramatic club are continuing their rehearsals earnestly for the coming musical comedy panchita the cast rehearsals will be held temporarily in the afternoon and the rhearsals for the chorus will be held at night mr piersol started the chorus rehearsals last saturday after noon and he is steadily drilling the men in the dances for ii chow fred colclough has been selected to play the part of con rad forrest which part was not filled until his selection recent ly the music and the words to the songs have already been written and are now being or chestrated for their costumes this year the club has approached several of the largest costuming houses in the east for estimates the mustard and cheese is co-oper | ating with the greater lehigh j publicity committee which will assure the club or greater pub licity in other towns as well as locally people who witnessed the production last year will no doubt be desirious of seeing this year's show too it is with this in mind that the members of the mustard and cheese wish to have their friends from out df town be in full possession of the facts concerning panchita on tuesday of last week coach o'neil of the lacrosse team arrived to take up the work of spring training the following day he had manager boyle call together in the trophy room all the new candidates and all last year's men he ex plained his plans for spring practice and discussed the out look for this year's season his talk was directed especially to new men whom he urged to re port regularly he mentioned that new equipment would soon be received and that all candi dates would be able to take ad vantage of it the chief point of his talk was that he would be open to any questions requests for help or instruction or would be willing to coach any of the men at any time of the day not restricting it to only the after noon practice the coach came early this year so that he would be able to give more work in handling the stick and not to have to start right in with scrimmages the first week or so of this year will be taken up with stick work and then the scrimmages will be started there will be regular practice every afternoon at 4 o'clock on saturday everybody who is at all interested is ask ed to turn out at 2 o'clock so far this year the prospects look fine the letter men who have reported are abel buck gruhn groner mcßride and packenham the other regu lars out are finegan schwim mer stephens davis robinson shigo smith stauffer and war i dell fullard will be out in about a month and springsteen is ex pected to report soon the first game of the season will be here at bethlehem on april 5 with the new york lacrosse club rev j a glasier to act as chair man for this round-table meeting in keeping with the plan of the lehigh y m c a there will be another open forum dis cussion the subject for this sunday will be the present church controversy and rev j a glasier rector of the trin ity episcopal church will act as chairman as previously out lined in the brown and white these round table discussions are not intended to be in the form of a lecture on one partic ular subject but rather are to be instrumental in acquainting the student more thoroughly with present day affairs last sunday an interested group of students discussed the subject of world peace at the meeting following their infor mal discussion it was decided to take advantage of the beautiful day and all those present en joyed a long hike this idea be came instantaneously popular and it was decided to do the same next sunday provided the weather permits questionnaire brought replies from 102 leading educa tional institutions ' tennis as a college sport is making rapid strides through out all sections of the country both as an intervarsity sport and as a means of recreation for undergraduates the court game is assuming a popular place among the leading intercollegi ate activities of the day accord ing to data collected by the in tercollegiate tennis associa tion i a questionnaire sent to the leading universities and colleges brought replies from 102 insti tutions of these 27 listed ten nis as a major sport while oth ers classified it as a minor com petition almost without excep tion all of these colleges and universities reported teams of from four to ten men who com pete in intercollegiate contests and in one or more sectional or national champoinship tourna ments tennis was the topic of con silerable discussion at the an nual meeting of the society of directors of physical education in colleges held at atlanta ga in december in connection with the meeting of the national collegiate athletic association at that time a score of physical directors reported that the game was growing so rapidly j in popularity among students of their colleges that it was almost impossible to supply a sufficient number of courts and other facilities columbia yearlings meet brown and white frosh in taylor gymnasium the brown and white fresh man wrestling team is on their last lap in preparation for the yearlings of columbia univer sity when the latter journey to bethlehem next saturday the freshman are extremely confi dent as they have gone through the season so far without a de feat cornell has already de feated the blue and white year lings and they in turn have been on the short end of a 23 to 8 score against our team reed 115 pound class is the out standing performer of the class of 27 and in the five meets has thrown four men and won over the fifth by a decision kent lewis long and jacobs have also done extremely well the meet which will be held in taylor gymnasium at three o'clock saturday should be very interesting the experience gained in previous meets has developed the seeley coopersmith fear faculty volley ball team wins from dobson coal co the faculty volley ball team met the dodson coal company team on monday night march 3rd and succeeded in obtaining a three straight win over the latter the faculty team is in good shape at the present time and are anxious to hear from the lafayette faculty about a pronosed match the following faculty repre sentqd the team at the above game captain pulsifer beav er kreidler bell chance and graham the railroad society of le high university will hold its regular monthly meeting in the physics lecture room at eight o'clock this evening the speak er of the evening will be mr george m basford of the g m i basford company who will de liver an address on the con servation of locomotive fuel this is one of the most import ant problems that the railroads of to-day are attempting to solve and the meeting should prove to be of great value to students interested in railroad ing or any other branch of en gineering where the conserva tion of fuel has become the out standing question in addition to the address there will be a model of a feed water heater by means of which mr basford will endeavor to illustrate his address mr basford visited lehigh two years ago in the same ca pacity in which he will appear friday evening and if his speech delivered at that time may be taken as a criterion the ad dress to-night should be very in teresting mr basford was gard uated from massachusetts insti tute of technology in 1889 and has been employed by several railroads in all parts of the country some of these were the boston and maine chicago burlington and quincy union pacific chicago milwaukee ana st paul and the johnson rail way signal company several years after graduation mr bas ford became editor of the me chanical department of the railway and engineering rec ord and in 1897 he was appoint j ed editor of the american engi neering and railway journal several years later he was ap pointed assistant to the presi dent of the american locomo tive works and after holding this position for a few years he resigned to assume the office of president of the locomotive feed water company and the g m basford company at the present time he also serves as a consulting engineer for the lima locomotive works georgia enters debating arena college nine may tour europe georgia tech is one of the re cent technical schools to enter the field of intercollegiate de bating a debating council com posed of three members of the faculty and two students has been formed to arrange the con tests cast reports in afternoons and chorus at night — vacancy filled the mustard and cheese dramatic club are continuing their rehearsals earnestly for the coming musical comedy panchita the cast rehearsals will be held temporarily in the afternoon and the rhearsals for the chorus will be held at night mr piersol started the chorus rehearsals last saturday after noon and he is steadily drilling the men in the dances for ii chow fred colclough has been selected to play the part of con rad forrest which part was not filled until his selection recent ly the music and the words to the songs have already been written and are now being or chestrated for their costumes this year the club has approached several of the largest costuming houses in the east for estimates the mustard and cheese is co-oper | ating with the greater lehigh j publicity committee which will assure the club or greater pub licity in other towns as well as locally people who witnessed the production last year will no doubt be desirious of seeing this year's show too it is with this in mind that the members of the mustard and cheese wish to have their friends from out df town be in full possession of the facts concerning panchita on tuesday of last week coach o'neil of the lacrosse team arrived to take up the work of spring training the following day he had manager boyle call together in the trophy room all the new candidates and all last year's men he ex plained his plans for spring practice and discussed the out look for this year's season his talk was directed especially to new men whom he urged to re port regularly he mentioned that new equipment would soon be received and that all candi dates would be able to take ad vantage of it the chief point of his talk was that he would be open to any questions requests for help or instruction or would be willing to coach any of the men at any time of the day not restricting it to only the after noon practice the coach came early this year so that he would be able to give more work in handling the stick and not to have to start right in with scrimmages the first week or so of this year will be taken up with stick work and then the scrimmages will be started there will be regular practice every afternoon at 4 o'clock on saturday everybody who is at all interested is ask ed to turn out at 2 o'clock so far this year the prospects look fine the letter men who have reported are abel buck gruhn groner mcßride and packenham the other regu lars out are finegan schwim mer stephens davis robinson shigo smith stauffer and war i dell fullard will be out in about a month and springsteen is ex pected to report soon the first game of the season will be here at bethlehem on april 5 with the new york lacrosse club rev j a glasier to act as chair man for this round-table meeting in keeping with the plan of the lehigh y m c a there will be another open forum dis cussion the subject for this sunday will be the present church controversy and rev j a glasier rector of the trin ity episcopal church will act as chairman as previously out lined in the brown and white these round table discussions are not intended to be in the form of a lecture on one partic ular subject but rather are to be instrumental in acquainting the student more thoroughly with present day affairs last sunday an interested group of students discussed the subject of world peace at the meeting following their infor mal discussion it was decided to take advantage of the beautiful day and all those present en joyed a long hike this idea be came instantaneously popular and it was decided to do the same next sunday provided the weather permits questionnaire brought replies from 102 leading educa tional institutions ' tennis as a college sport is making rapid strides through out all sections of the country both as an intervarsity sport and as a means of recreation for undergraduates the court game is assuming a popular place among the leading intercollegi ate activities of the day accord ing to data collected by the in tercollegiate tennis associa tion i a questionnaire sent to the leading universities and colleges brought replies from 102 insti tutions of these 27 listed ten nis as a major sport while oth ers classified it as a minor com petition almost without excep tion all of these colleges and universities reported teams of from four to ten men who com pete in intercollegiate contests and in one or more sectional or national champoinship tourna ments tennis was the topic of con silerable discussion at the an nual meeting of the society of directors of physical education in colleges held at atlanta ga in december in connection with the meeting of the national collegiate athletic association at that time a score of physical directors reported that the game was growing so rapidly j in popularity among students of their colleges that it was almost impossible to supply a sufficient number of courts and other facilities columbia yearlings meet brown and white frosh in taylor gymnasium the brown and white fresh man wrestling team is on their last lap in preparation for the yearlings of columbia univer sity when the latter journey to bethlehem next saturday the freshman are extremely confi dent as they have gone through the season so far without a de feat cornell has already de feated the blue and white year lings and they in turn have been on the short end of a 23 to 8 score against our team reed 115 pound class is the out standing performer of the class of 27 and in the five meets has thrown four men and won over the fifth by a decision kent lewis long and jacobs have also done extremely well the meet which will be held in taylor gymnasium at three o'clock saturday should be very interesting the experience gained in previous meets has developed the freshmen to a very great degree and they should be able to give a go(/j account of themselves the baseball nine of william and mary college together with that of harvard university may tour europe
