tuesday mach 7 1961 a revised contacting-rushing program was approved last night by the inter-fraternity council ifc voted 23-5 to recommend the proposal to the student life com mittee a motion to approve the program unanimously received a 27-1 vote the proposal will be sent to slc with the recommendation that it be forwarded to the faculty and arcadia for review it will then be sent to dean of students j d leith for approval the new proposal which calls for fall semester contacting early spring semester rushing and a raised minimum average parallels the plan outlined at a recent meeting of representatives of interfrater lity councils of five area colleges the new proposal calls for con tacting to begin at the end of october and last for six weeks un il the middle of december rushing will start the first class lay of the spring semester and vill last for nine days in order to ledge a student must have a 1.5 iverage under the present sys em a student must have a 1.1 av srage pledges will be allowed to at end their fraternity houses once a veek for dinner and a meeting the meetings may last until 9:00 md will consist of constructive raining such as instruction in fra ternity and university history haracter development etiquette and good scholastic practice at least once during each of three five-week periods each fra ternity must engage a faculty speaker for a dinner a pledge training committee vould enforce the requirements of he proposal advantages listed in the new sroposal include increased oppor unity for freshman social life nore available tutors for fresh nen elimination of the low aver ge group in fraternities academ e stimulation for freshmen provi sion for the development of an ipgraded pledge program for the raternity system and more con act between the fraternities and faculty and alumni see farrell page 3 solos and exhibit his own talents but when a ensemble was called for every member blended with every other and there was no at tempt to vie with one another for distinction in this way all of the performers achieved distinction of a high nature unfortunately this cannot be said of the vocalists on all occa sians this is due to the unusual power of eileen farrell's and jan peerce's voices every so often either miss farrel or mr peerce would top the other voices in the group and throw off the balance so needed in a bach ensemble they seemed to realize this how ever and immediately restored the pendleton power — kirk pendleton favorite of the fans works over dave daley raiders captain at 167 pounds pendleton took the match 13 to 5 scoring ten points on takedowns the lehigh grapplers trounced the colgate red raiders 30-3 climaxing a record-breaking season which saw only one loss bach concert tasteful delightful tiveness and aesthetic contribution of the accompanists the quality of voice exhibited by the vocalists and the ability to sing bach there can be little disagreement that the accompaniment to the singing was well-nigh superb the virtuosity of the small group com posed of julius baker flute rob ert bloom oboe bernard green house cello paul ulanowsky piano and maurice wilk violin was a thing of beauty to watch and to hear they held such effective balance with the vocalists that each musical offering was a perfect combination of voice and instru ment each member of the group was given an opportunity to perform vol 72 — no 33 matmen face easterns with 11-1 season record by jeff cox and jerry mcguire finishing up the 1961 dual meet wrestling sea son the leemen set a record by gaining the most wins in one season 11 to one loss the colgate matmen were easily tied up and solidly whipped 30-3 and thad turner received a standing ovation before the saturday match in grace hall as the fans realized it was his last dual meet the match started off with a lehigh pin at 123 bill merriam pinned lanny horn at 4:34 with a chancery and body press he took horn down and got three points for a near fall in the first period before finishing him of in the second at 130 pat smartt ran into trouble with charles bicber in the first period nothing happened in the second frame bieber rode smartt the entire period and in the final three minutes bieber reversed smartt and rode him to gain time and the win 3-0 at 137 starting the lehigh parade of victors doug baillie met herb bickel again there was a neutral first period baillie escaped in 15 seconds of the second per iod and gained a stalling point in the last frame bickel escaped but baillie had the time advantage and won 3-1 moving up from his usual spot at 137 curt alex ander tried some mike letaism at 147 against jim fox alexander took fox down in the first period and fox escaped and the bout seemed routine so far in the second period point flew fast as alexander had a takedown two reversals a predicament point and a near fall fox had a reversal a predica ment and two escapes in the third frame alexander had three take downs and times finds himself in an uneasy position for especially in a bach-loving com munity as is bethlehem opinions and tastes are wide for the most part intelligent and varied there can be no complete un animity the closest approximation to allied criticism is that the bach concert on thursday night was tasteful delightful and — in places — overpowering in its artistic mastery one must view the jeffers orlin l livdahl and bernard f oppel received honorable mention candidates were nominated by the committee on prest'ge fellow ships chaired by dr joynt brainerd received his fellowship for
