manage ment and the art of manage ment both the science and the art are to be desired for science without art will fall far short of attaining the fullest measure of managerial success this is most of perm state by decision cary gained the advantage almost from the start and held camp bell for practically nine minutes out of the ten the lehigh mat man fought hard and never al lowed the visitor to touch the mat matthews of lehigh was next on the program and also lost toj hunter of state on decision this match started off very close both men being on the mat but neither having the advan tage made a fall but the state man got out of it and secured the advantage again un til the end of the bout the 135 pound class bout was one of the most interesting ever seen in taylor gymnasium it was between captain warriner of lehigh and captain naito of state the latter winning by referee's decision with a time advantage of 26 seconds war riner used his opponents own tactics by getting down and wrestling with one knee on the mat both wrestlers were wary and waited tensely for a place to make a break before touching each other once warriner caught naito off his guard and held him for three seconds but the state man broke away nai to also had the advantage over warriner for 26 seconds rogers of lehigh made the first score for the brown and white by securing a decision ov er black of state in the 145 pound class almost at the start rogers made a break for his man and put him on the mat but only for a few seconds again rogers put his man to the mat and after quite a strag gle black got to his feet then ensued a period of very fast wrestling first one man being on top and then the other rog ers however was a little bit faster than his opponent and gained a time advantage of three minutes and 23 seconds beck next lost the 158 pound bout to parthemore of state by decision after quite an exciting ten minutes beck brought his man to the floor in a few sec onds but failed to hold him and allowed parthemore to gain the advantage beck managed to break away and then the real battle began parthemore suc ceeded in getting a hold on beck and worked like a trojan but was unable to do anything more than to wear himself out then beck secured a hold and tried unsuccessfully to turn the state man on his back but failed par themore came out with a time advantage of five minutes and four seconds burke of lehigh then crashed through with the remaining two points of the brown and white's score when he secured a decis ion over rumbaugh of state the bout started off with lots of action but before long burke crate were responsible for this flash work however the brown and white dribblers tightened their defense and started in on a successful offense which net ted a six point lead which was never overcome weinstein was the outstanding player on the mountaineers five and played a remarkable game in the second half with many spectacular pentrations of the maroon de fense which invariably resulted in another double-decker check ed up for the home team gal lagher played a fine game also especially in the first half when he tallied two-pointers with as tonishing accuracy an end to a very hard fought battle was brought with the sounding of the final bell the lehigh quin tette still maintaing its lead by a three point margin at the beginning of the game the brown and white players followed gallagher's aggressive ness and managed to lead laf ayette from the start after over coming a one point lead from a free throw and springsteen and weinstein proved to be an im passable barrier for the easton ians for the ball was in play m their territory the geater part of the first half kearney broke up many flashy attacks of the le high forwards and kept the score down to a low figure time out was taken to fix springsteen's footwear and when the play was resumed captain lingle seemed to have installed new fight into his men and the half ended with the score standing 10-8 in favor of the home team lafayette made most of her eight tallies on fouls while they on the contrary played a very clean game leav ing most of the home points ac counted for by goals from the field hess did not have his eye on the basket as well as usual but he played his usual steady game breaking through the hos tile defense and feeding the ball to his teammates when he was closely guarded the second half opened with a spurt from the down river team which brought them up on even terms with the engineers and gave them added confid ence to continue the attack however weinstein seemed im bued with new fight during the entire second half and started in to break up all their plays with the aid of springsteen not sat isfied with merely ruining laf ayette's chances for evening the series of the season he broke through on several different oc casions to make the length of the court with a field goal as the result his fight pushed the brown and white into a lead which was never overcome it was at this point that the play ing began to get faster with the consequence that it became considerably rougher fouls were imposed on both team finally terminating with the dis missal of hock on personals moore took his place at the for ward position and played the re mainder of the game scoring two very neat foul goals for the eastonians the end of the con test came with the mountain eers victorious thus clinching the series with lafayette for the first time in several years last year the team defeated lafay ette in the first game but could not seem to hold their rivals in the ensuing contest both of which were won by the oppon ents form easton giving them the series the remaining game to be played off will no doubt remain unplayed because there is no took on a new and ex ceedingly entertaining form it consisted of a travalogue illus trated by magnificent colored motion pictures presented by dr owen rowe o'neil the not ed african explorer not only was it greatly entertaining and interesting but it was of great geographical and historical val ue first he gave a vivid and realistic description of the sav age black of south africa he stated that of these people south of the sahara desert there are fifty-two million which are di vided into twenty-seven differ ent tribes the majority of these worship the sun practice polyg amy and some even practice cannibalism he told about their domestic life their ways of liv ing and their system of values in which one english gold pound is worth a goat five goats worth a cow and one cow worth a woman he also said that he knew one man who was consid ered by his people to be a multi millioiutaire he owned sixty three wives had two hundred and seventy-three children and expected thirty-three more all this he illustrated with pictures which had taken great expense and risk to film the pictures also showed the prevailing modes in african fashion the royal city where king buno of swaziland lived with his thous ands of warriors about him the local chiefs the witch doctors and the methods of dressing the hair and scarring the foreheads the greater part of the lec tui'e and motion pictures how ever was taken up with a his tory and the adventures of the boers in africa and how south africa was colonized he told how the boers had first settled in a colony at the cape but find ing the natives too hostile and savage they set out to the north to find a new place to settle after many hardships and great losses by fierce battles with the natives they finally established what is now the boer repub lic in this history was includ ed the story of his ancestors his parents and also his own life about the most interesting part of the travalogue if one part could be better than anoth er was the account of the revo lution in swaziland when after the old king had died his motl er refused to give the throne to the proper heir o'neil organiz ed a party and after rhuch troub le bought the privilege to film the coronation but the old queen again changed her mind and he was ordered out of the countiy however o'neil and his men joined the revolutionists even allowed themselves to be initiat ed into the royal regiment and in this way obtained many val uable pictures finally the mother of the dead king was attacked stabbed to death and her body burned on a previous ly prepared pyre to the floor in a few sec onds but failed to hold him and allowed parthemore to gain the advantage beck managed to break away and then the real battle began parthemore suc ceeded in getting a hold on beck and worked like a trojan but was unable to do anything more than to wear himself out then beck secured a hold and tried unsuccessfully to turn the state man on his back but failed par themore came out with a time advantage of five minutes and four seconds burke of lehigh then crashed through with the remaining two points of the brown and white's score when he secured a decis ion over rumbaugh of state the bout started off with lots of action but before long burke crate were responsible for this flash work however the brown and white dribblers tightened their defense and started in on a successful offense which net ted a six point lead which was never overcome weinstein was the outstanding player on the mountaineers five and played a remarkable game in the second half with many spectacular pentrations of the maroon de fense which invariably resulted in another double-decker check ed up for the home team gal lagher played a fine game also especially in the first half when he tallied two-pointers with as tonishing accuracy an end to a very hard fought battle was brought with the sounding of the final bell the lehigh quin tette still maintaing its lead by a three point margin at the beginning of the game the brown and white players followed gallagher's aggressive ness and managed to lead laf ayette from the start after over coming a one point lead from a free throw and springsteen and weinstein proved to be an im passable barrier for the easton ians for the ball was in play m their territory the geater part of the first half kearney broke up many flashy attacks of the le high forwards and kept the score down to a low figure time out was taken to fix springsteen's footwear and when the play was resumed captain lingle seemed to have installed new fight into his men and the half ended with the score standing 10-8 in favor of the home team lafayette made most of her eight tallies on fouls while they on the contrary played a very clean game leav ing most of the home points ac counted for by goals from the field hess did not have his eye on the basket as well as usual but he played his usual steady game breaking through the hos tile defense and feeding the ball to his teammates when he was closely guarded the second half opened with a spurt from the down river team which brought them up on even terms with the engineers and gave them added confid ence to continue the attack however weinstein seemed im bued with new fight during the entire second half and started in to break up all their plays with the aid of springsteen not sat isfied with merely ruining laf ayette's chances for evening the series of the season he broke through on several different oc casions to make the length of the court with a field goal as the result his fight pushed the brown and white into a lead which was never overcome it was at this point that the play ing began to get faster with the consequence that it became considerably rougher fouls were imposed on both team finally terminating with the dis missal of hock on personals moore took his place at the for ward position and played the re mainder of the game scoring two very neat foul goals for the eastonians the end of the con test came with the mountain eers victorious thus clinching the series with lafayette for the first time in several years last year the team defeated lafay ette in the first game but could not seem to hold their rivals in the ensuing contest both of which were won by the oppon ents form easton giving them the series the remaining game to be played off will no doubt the not ed african explorer not only was it greatly entertaining and interesting but it was of great geographical and historical val ue first he gave a vivid and realistic description of the sav age black of south africa he stated that of these people south of the sahara desert there are fifty-two million which are di vided into twenty-seven differ ent tribes the majority of these worship the sun practice polyg amy and some even practice cannibalism he told about their domestic life their ways of liv ing and their system of values in which one english gold pound is worth a goat five goats worth a cow and one cow worth a woman he also said that he knew one man who was consid ered by his people to be a multi millioiutaire he owned sixty three wives had two hundred and seventy-three children and expected thirty-three more all this he illustrated with pictures which had taken great expense and risk to film the pictures also showed the prevailing modes in african fashion the royal city where king buno of swaziland lived with his thous ands of warriors about him the local chiefs the witch doctors and the methods of dressing the hair and scarring the foreheads the greater part of the lec tui'e and motion pictures how ever was taken up with a his tory and the adventures of the boers in africa and how south africa was colonized he told how the boers had first settled in a colony at the cape but find ing the natives too hostile and savage they set out to the north to find a new place to settle after many hardships and great losses by fierce battles with the natives they finally established what is now the boer repub lic in this history was includ ed the story of his ancestors his parents and also his own life about the most interesting part of the travalogue if one part could be better than anoth er was the account of the revo lution in swaziland when after the old king had died his motl er refused to give the throne to the proper heir o'neil organiz ed a party and after rhuch troub le bought the privilege to film the coronation but the old queen again changed her mind and he was ordered out of the countiy however o'neil and his men joined the revolutionists even allowed themselves to be initiat ed into the royal regiment and in this way obtained many val uable pictures finally the mother of the dead king was attacked stabbed to death and her body burned on a previous ly prepared pyre the revolution then became so fierce that the british government was forced to go into the country to quiet it the fifteenth annual indoor exhibition qf minor sports
