report cites educational efficiency by george keiser e)xcepting only the severe loss which the university suffered ihe illness and subsequent death of its president the year 1959-60 continued the progress which has gratifyingly marked our recent history states the new annual report prepared by several members of the administrative staff the report summarizes the progress made during president whitaker's final year which adds further lustre to his reputation as an outstanding leader a discussion of recent univer sity attention to educational effi ciency introduces the 11th report to members of the university com munity new educational ideas meth ods devices and plans are gener ated internally by the intellectual ferment and enterprise of an alert faculty it is the obligation of a progressive university to eval uate test and adopt the promising new while conserving and strengthening the best of the es tablished old the pertinent qualities of this ? efficiency are described as the improvement of instruction and research through these evolution ary changes the more effective use of faculty and facilities better teaching and more inspired learn ing economy of operation . . ." studies by the university com mittee on educational policy and the student life committee and faculty panels discussion on var ious phases of educational effi ciency are cited as evidence of its growing importance these de liberations if not conclusive cer tainly proved fruitful in the gen ? eration and communication of ideas and in the stimulation of wide interest . . ." turning to last semester's in spection by the mddle states as sociaton of colleges and second ary schools the report notes newly reaccredited we take con fidence from the fact that friendly but searchingly critical extra mural colleagues have checked our bearings and have found us on course and proceeding at least satisfactorily the 22-man msa team called attention to the devotion of the board of trustees and their un derstanding of lehigh's problems and opportunities the conserva tive management of the univer sity's finances so that the univer sity is in excellent shape finan cially the well-controlled fund raising function the steady im provement in and the present high quality of students being admitted and the excellent level of instruc tion they found weaknesses . . . for example undesirable crowding and lack of space in several depart sec msa page 4 lehigh university brown and white vol 72 — no 18 ¦ bethlehem pa tuesday december 2 1960 un 6-0331 seven arcadia posts and two constitutional amendments will be decided in three days of balloting beginning monday twenty-one candidates are run ning for the seven positions which will be decided by the hare system of proportional representation . . . none of the 21 candidates are incumbents eight arcadia seats liave already been given to repre sentatives of the major campus or ganizations one of the new amendments pro lioses expanding these eight posi ?
