28 teams enroll for debate contest students will have a chance to express their choice for president in a mock election on campus to morrow all students are eligible to vote and can cast their ballots in boxes strategically placed around the campus the mock election is spon sored by the young republican and young democratic clubs who will campaign through use of post ers for their respective candi dates before the polling the results of the mock presi dential election held four years preliminary reports on the fac ulty presidential preference poll indicates a very slim margin be tween the top national party lead ers from the 216 ballots sent to the faculty by the brown and white 145 — 67 per cent — have been re turned to date leading to a stand off between the two candidates totals to date are nixon 70 kennedy 70 five ballots have offered no preference for the top national candidates those five ballots indicated votes for socialist van tassel—out er space party undecided none and thomas jefferson nixon's strongest faculty support comes from the college of engin eering leading with 33 votes to kennedy's 20 kennedy's strongest support comes from the arts and science faculty with 43 to nixon's 27 the business administration fac mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm by ralph mattioli the fourth group of 21 indian trainees arrived on campus saturday these graduate engineers form a group of approximately 115 stu dents studying at five colleges and universities and seven steel com panies the seven participating steel companies are bethlehem steel jones and laughlin inland national republic united states steel and - s3s youngstown sheet and tube the indian steel training and education program instep is sponsored jointly by the ford foundaiton and the indian gov ernment for the past three years the ford foundation has paid the cost of administration and instruction under the terms of a grant the indian government pays the cost of international transporta tion while the international co operation administration bears most of the trainee maintenance costs the indian students are pres ently housed in taylor hall these students were chosen to participate in the steel training and education on the merits of in terviews held in india they have signed contracts for five years all of them under the same steel company in india upon returning to india they will im mediately go to work at the steel plants all the plants are incorporated into one major firm the hindustan steel limited after the students have met their contract duties they will be free to work in any industrial firm of their choice see indians page 3 ? ago showed that students favored president eisenhower five to one of the 1,170 student ballots cast 963 were for the eisenhower-nix on ticket 201 for stevenson kefauver and six for other candi dates faculty members also support ed eisenhower but by a smaller margin the 90 faculty votes cast were eisenhower 49 stevenson 40 other 1 in 1952 as in 1956 lehigh was overwhelmingly in favor of eisen hower in the 52 preference pri mary eisenhower was swept into office on the first ballot with 822 of the 1,556 total votes followed by sen robert a taft r-ohio who wound up with 395 votes ?
