vice president to muhlenberg col lege's memorial hall saturday evening speaking to a capacity crowd of 5,000 the republican standard bearer attacked his opponent's kennedy cuban stand nixon cited this incident alone shows an immaturity a rashness a lack of understanding and an irrespon sibility ... in this critical period the audience responded loudly to the vice president's cuban de vice-presidential candidate came to bethlehem 2 a.m wednesday when he arrived at the allentown bethlehem-easton airport a crowd of 150 supporters greeted him addressing a throng of 1700 bethlehem steel co office em ployees and several hundred steel workers at 1 p.m wednesday lodge proclaimed i'm glad to see you democrats are here too lodge praised his running mate richard m nixon he declared that nixon could give us that leader ship ... so appealing that the menace of the communist revolu tion would wither and die away he went on to state we must stand up to the reds and show them we have more to offer in a free society he also talked about united nations forces in the con go enthusiastic nixon cheerers a chorus and a band welcomed the ? threat of atomic war very real one - millon democratic presidential candi date senator john f kenndey in itiated his three-day eastern penn sylvania campaign in bethlehem today arriving here last evening ken nedy first appeared at a lehigh northa nipt on democratic 25-a - plate breakfast at 8 a.m in the hotel bethlehem then motorcaded to johnston hall moravian college at 9 a.m the senator gave a talk indoors to the moravian student body he then proceeded to allentown with motor escort where he spoke in center square at 10 a.m after campaigning here the sen ator continued northward in the state he will finish his eastern pennsylvania tour in the philadel phia area when he delivers his final address at convention hall philadelphia monday henry cabot lodge republican ? specific goals of the program are construction of a metallurgical and chemical engineernig labora tory a center for the college of arts and science a residence for graduate students increased en dowment for faculty salaries and for distinguished service profes sorships in addition to fellowships and scholarships new athletio fields and an over-all plan of re design for the present campus development 3.5 million in curtis reports the centennial development program has received nearly 3.5 million towards its 22 million goal edward a curtis chairman of the planning and development committee announced last week the program began in 1959 and is scheduled to end in 1966 in con junction with the celebration of the university's 100 th anniversary gifts of alumni parents friends and industry through oct 1 reached 3,470,633 in making the announcement curtis said it is heartwarming to know that we have made so encouraging a beginning in lehigh's commitment to the maintainance of superior standards of teaching and research funds received to date have been given for the following purposes unrestricted endowment 288,568 endowment for fellowships and schol arships 248,208 living accommodations 237,947 endowment of two distinguished professorships 200,000 and other purposes 268,981 the centennial program will in crease endowment from 14 million in 1959 to 25 million total assets of the university will be increased from 1959's mark of approximately 40 million to more than 60 mil lion expansion of the campus to more than four times its former size will be a general result of the program five hundred acres of land in saucon valley and on south mountain were acquired more than a year ago for this pur pose moravian prof will address sunday chapel the rev howard h cox asso ciate professor of biblical theology and old testament at moravian theological seminary will be guest speaker at 11 a.m chapel services in packer memorial church sunday professor cox's sermon topic will be let there be light the speaker completed his un dergraduate work at pennsylvania state university in 1948 and spent the following year att har vard graduate school he received the degree of bachelor of divinity from union theological seminary in 1952 for three years thereaf ter he served as pastor of the fort hamilton presbyterian church see religions page 7 ?
