of the first term 25 new students enroll new publication out hard practice this week wednesday evening the brown and white five added another victory to their list in defeating s^wartroore to the tune of 45 to 38 the game was hardly up to the high standard set in recent weeks in taylor gymnasium both teams playing rather a slow and loose brand of basketball in the first half le high had rather an easy time with the garnet piling up a tally of 21 to 11 in favor of the brown and white after half time however the little qua kers recovered somewhat andj held the brown and white to a nine point lead throughout al most the entire second half swarthmore's trouble in the first half seemed to be a lack of teamwork the players were too slow and waited too long be fore passing the ball conse quently the lehigh men were in a position to stop most of the visitors plays and the garnet relied largely on long shots at the basket the team was much improved in the second half the play was faster most of the time and the passing and shooting j more accurate shane and | swope were the garnet's star shooters shane putting in a to 1 tal of five baskets during the ggfne and swope four ban lett was perhaps the most ac j tive in passing and dribbling for the garnet making some clever plays and intercepting the ball from the lehigh players more than once the brown and white five played a fair game keeping the visitors from piling up a score and keeping themselves far enough ahead in the tally for safety gallagher and wein stein were the outstanding play ers of the game their shooting from the is extremely promising additional candi dates for positions on the team will be welcomed there is al ways the possibility that some one who has not made himself known so far may prove super ior to the present candidates the freshmen team ( has the spirit of victory instilled in it by its former encounters the con fidence that it has also gained with the skill that it already has may be counted upon to wrest a victory from the naval aca demy freshmen information gleaned from figures published at the dean's office bring to light some inter esting facts regarding student enrollment at lehigh there are a total of 983 students register ed at the university this term in comparison to 1051 for last term by the same token it may bo seen that but 68 students have either dropped by the way side or been dropped by the fa culty however the t;nroiiuient for this semester has been aug mented by the addition of twen ty-five students so that really makes the total number that have left this past term 43 of these 43 38 have been dropped by the committee on the standing of students for unsatisfactory work this past semester or in common par lance flunked out last year lehigh adopted the policy of 80 percent or 100 percent proba tion according to the circum stances that is a student whose work was unsatisfactory for the previous term must pass either lour-fifths or all of his work under these terms eighteen were put on probation and it is a significant fact that just one half complied with the terms and stayed and the other nine of course failed a fifty percent record in a case like this is very good comprehensive figures on the 1924 enrollment follow university athletics lehigh university the lehigh basketball team will make its last appearance on distant courts tomorrow when they com-i mittee the plans so far for the \ banquet are very elaborate and will incur a great deal of ex pense the final plans for the banquet will be announced at a later date when the committee has arranged all the details the next issue of the burr is the lipstick number andj from the number of sketches and jokes that have been hand ed in it promises to be one of i the best if not the best number j of the year mandolin and glee clubs to be assisted by lehigh collegians big event on the calendar the combined musical clubs left this morning for york penna where they will give the first of their performances on this week-end trip the clubs will be the guests of the senior class of the york high school and will attend the dance given by them after the entertain ment the alumni in york are plan ning to show their loyalty and spirit by advertising the event and entertaining the club during their stay the main feature of the alumni entertainment will be the dinner given to the clubs this evening the clubs will stay in york overnight at the ritzj hotel the clubs will spend friday evening in lebanon where they will entertain by giving a con cert returning to bethlehem sometime sunday this is one of the big events in the calendar of the musical clubs and is an excellent ad vertising medium for lehigh the members of the organiza tion have spent much time in preparation for this trip and the fact that they are taking the lehigh collegians along to play in special parts and for the dances shows that the clubs are doing much to make this tour a successful one also manager litke and president stern have been working very hard during the past month to insure a hap py trip + fencing notice a change has been made in the schedule of the fencing clas ses the regular class company of york pa the authors have felt that in their experience in teaching classes the average student does not realize the depth and accur acy of the subject of chemistry in his elementary study of this branch of science this book has been written with the object of presenting the numerous practi cal problems which may be solv ed from the knowledge gained in the early study of chemistry the book however is not con fined to simple chemistry alone but takes up the law of mass action problems in electrolysis a study of the common lon ef fect and problems in hydrogen sulfide precipitation the present time that this country should enter into no entangling alli ances with nations in europe but should rather align itself with the nations of the western hemisphere according to the provisions of the monroe doc trine for mutual protection and benefit that such an alliance should not be for purposes of conquest but rather for the promotion of friendly relations and the trade and mutual ad vantages which would result from such an agreement dr rau is a man ot culture and refinement and a speaker of interest to all who hear him the student body is strongly arged to attend and best if not the best number j of the year mandolin and glee clubs to be assisted by lehigh collegians big event on the calendar the combined musical clubs left this morning for york penna where they will give the first of their performances on this week-end trip the clubs will be the guests of the senior class of the york high school and will attend the dance given by them after the entertain ment the alumni in york are plan ning to show their loyalty and spirit by advertising the event and entertaining the club during their stay the main feature of the alumni entertainment will be the dinner given to the clubs this evening the clubs will stay in york overnight at the ritzj hotel the clubs will spend friday evening in lebanon where they will entertain by giving a con cert returning to bethlehem sometime sunday this is one of the big events in the calendar of the musical clubs and is an excellent ad vertising medium for lehigh the members of the organiza tion have spent much time in preparation for this trip and the fact that they are taking the lehigh collegians along to play in special parts and for the dances shows that the clubs are doing much to make this tour a successful one also manager litke and president stern have been working very hard during the past month to insure a hap py trip + fencing notice a change has been made in the schedule of the fencing and printed by the maple press j company of york pa the authors have felt that in their experience in teaching classes the average student does not realize the depth and accur acy of the subject of chemistry in his elementary study of this branch of science this book has been written with the object of presenting the numerous practi cal problems which may be solv ed from the knowledge gained in the early study of chemistry the book however is not con fined to simple chemistry alone but takes up the law of mass action problems in electrolysis a study of the common lon ef fect and problems in sons from the life of washing ton dr rau is an interesting and learned speaker ana a student of world affairs in his address he will attempt to show the re lation of washington's farewell address to the foreign policy of the united states at the present time that this country should enter into no entangling alli ances with nations in europe but should rather align itself with the nations of the western hemisphere according to the provisions of the monroe doc trine for mutual protection and benefit that such an alliance should not be for purposes of conquest but rather for the promotion of friendly relations and the trade and mutual ad vantages which would result from such an agreement dr rau is a man ot culture and refinement and a speaker of interest to all who hear him the student body is strongly arged to attend and hear an opinion of repute upon a ques tion which vitally affects every american citizen physical education statistics gym and swimming classes head the list fay bartlett has compiled some facts and figures relative to the student body of lehigh and it shows that of the 983 students registered in college 951 are connected in some way with athletics or some
