senators clark scott debate thursday corporate trustee andrew e buchanan jr has been named chairman of a board of trustees committee to consider fully and carefully the question of dr whit aker's replacement the announcement was made to day by monroe j rathbone presi dent of the board of trustees in addition dr harvey a nev ille provost and vice-president has been named administrative head of the university he will continue in this capacity until a permanent successor for president whitaker is found rathbone said in a letter to members of the uni versity family in making the announcement rathbone said the trustees ap pointed two committees a com mittee of trustees and a faculty advisory committee following several informal dis cussions the rathbone letter states the full board of trustees met in bethlehem on oct 7 and appointed two committees to con sider fully and carefully the ques tion of dr whitaker's replacement while no time limit has been set for the committee's report the letter continues it is hoped that it will be able to report in a few months rathbone said that he wanted the university community to know that this important matter of a successor for dr whitaker is un der active and careful considera tion during the past several months rathbone said dr neville has see buchanan page 9 search for president begins trustees name 2 committees vol 72 bethlehem pa tuesday oct 18 1960 no 8 williams prizes hiked in value monroe j rathbone clark a democrat will speak after dinner to the young demo crats of cedar crest lehigh mo ravian lafayette and muhlenberg at 8:30 p.m the debate will be gin in grace hall ten minute opening addresses a 625 increase in regular awards and three additional 100 prizes in the williams essay and debate contests were announced this week by dr j burke severs williams senior prize committee chairman the first new prize will be awarded for meritorious reporting pub lished or unpublished intended to interpret the meaning of events or developments which are significant in the life of the university judges this year are joseph b mcfadden journalism division head theodore hailperin associate professor of mathematics and james d mack librarian another new award will be given to the author of a meritorious short story play or poem adjudged by cloyd criswell assistant pro fessor of english ralph van arnam assistant professor of mathe amtics and finn b jensen professor of economics the student presenting the most outstanding interpretation of a role in a mustard and cheese production will receive the new dra matics prize h barrett davis director of dramatics robert b cutler associate professor of music and lawrence whitcomb associate profes sor of geology will serve as judges this year first prizes of the senior compositions in economics english phil osophy psychology and history and government have been upped 50 from the preceding 150 awards second and third prizes will remain at their 100 and 50 marks ?
