general impression excellent ' u's accreditation reaffirmed salaries,studentquality cited accreditation for the university has been reaffirmed by the com mission on institutes of higher learning of the middle states assn the reaffirmation came as a re sult of an evaluation conducted by a 21-man team last february 14 through 17 in a statement to the brown and white dr harvey a neville vice president and provost and dr e kenneth smiley vice president said the formal report of the com mittee stated in part the general impression made upon the evaluators from the mid dle states assn . . . was an excel lent one the vice presidents said the commission strongly commended lehigh university on its steady improvement in the salaries paid to faculty and staff and upon the steady improvement in the quality of students accepted by the admis sion office favorable mention followed the smiley-neville statement con tinued concerning the financial management of the university the quality and effectiveness of the board of trustees and student services the report called attention to the need for more adequate hous ing for the college of arts and science and the somewhat crowd ed conditions in the university library the report also took cognizance of the recently announced develop ment program which includes plans for remedying these deficiencies the vice presidents statement concluded with the opinion in ? general lehigh university found as have many other institutions that the self-study conducted in preparation for the visiting team was perhaps the most fruitful as pect of the evaluation the evaluation itself was con ducted by a team headed by dr carter davidson president of union university the evaluation is made about every 10 to 12 years prior to the three-day visita tion the university prepared a massive 550-page self-study which served as both a guide for the evaluation team and an opportun ity for the university to analyze itself in an attempt to find its strengths and weaknesses following the visitation during which time all aspects of the uni versity were closely scrutinized by the visitors each a specialist in some general area of inquiry the team prepared a report of its find ings which were submitted to the association's accreditation board 25 feckless dinkless to melodize for status a cyanide spot dink-check wednesday nabbed 25 bareheaded frosh president james rice 62 told the brown and white earlier this week the junior honorary which keeps tabs on freshman regulations assembled the delinquent yearlings at the rear of the university center at 7 this morning to sing lehigh songs the cyanide prexy explained freshmen whose dinks had been stolen would be exempt if they had excuses from their counselors explaining their plight according to rice the wearing of dinks led to considerable dissen sion in cyanide ranks as well as among the freshmen a meeting was held last spring to decide if dinks would be worn this fall a resolution was adopted to continue dink-wearing pending another vote sept 22 the dinks policy was reaffirmed so the dink check was put into effect in answer to the charge in a letter to the b&w that tradition should be rejected rice stated i believe that there definitely is a place for see cyanide page 9 castro's cuba the inside story see p 5 mutual shores plan okayed by seniors insurance shelved lehigh university brown and white vol 72 bethlehem pa friday sept 30 1960 no 3 the senior class cabinet voted yesterday afternoon to abandon the 22-year-old insurance plan of financing the class memorial gift in favor of a mutual shares program the class has asked the board of trustees to give the plan its con sideration and advice at its meeting next friday the insurance plan had been used by every class since 1938 and as recently as 1957 paul franz assistant to the president said peri odically we look for a better idea i don't know of any better than the insurance plan in 1939 brown university adopt ed the mutual shares plan yale followed suit this year richard e shulman chairman of the class gift committee told ?
