dr adolf grunbaum selfridge professor of pure philosophy will speak on the nature of time in packard laboratory auditorium wed nesday at 8 p.m the lecture the third of the senior lecture series will be sponsored by the senior class and omicron delta kappa senior honorary grunbaum will consider the relationship of the directionality of times with respect to certain physical processes evolutions and de gradations grunbaum was recently appointed andrew mellon professor of philosophy and chairman of the program in the philosophy of science at the university of pittsburgh and will begin work there in september he joined the lehigh faculty in 1950 and served one year as an instructor in philosophy before being promoted to assistant professor in june 1953 he received the 1,000 alfred noble robinson award given annually to a staff member not over 35 and below the rank of associate professor who has been voted as giving outstanding per formance in the service of the uni versity he was appointed as an asso ciate professor later that summer awarded a faculty fellowship foi 1954-55 by the ford foundation's fund for the advancement of edu cation grunbaum devoted his time to study and research in the phi losophy of physics and of biology he received the position of professor of philosophy in 1955 granted a leave of absence for the 1956-57 fall semester grun baum served as visiting research professor at the university of min nesota center for the philosophy of science he was engaged in work on the problem of time and on the phil osophical aspects of the general theory of relativity at the minne sota center results of his work appeared as several essays in a series of volumes entitled min nesota studies in the philosophy of science during the spring semester see senior may 4-6 ballot see junior page 6 in an attempt to have arcadia's revised constitution approved by the student body the solons have submitted their new charter to an other referendum during class elections may 4 5 and 6 a special ballot will be supplied for members of the senior class who may vote only for the constitution although two-thirds of the voters approved the constitution in the arcadia elections last december the revised constitution failed to re ceive the necessary votes of a majority of the student body a special ballot will be supplied for seniors who are eligible to vote only for the constitution the class officers for next year will be selected from a field of 47 men who submitted petitions the present sophomore class leads with 21 candidates the positions of president and sec retary have eight men vying for office and five are seeking the treasurers post this years freshmen boast 19 candidates eight for president four for secretary and seven for treas urer the senior class offices are the least contested — only four men seeking the presidency two are running for secretary and the in cumbent is uncontested for treas urer two candidates for office from the class of 63 were omitted from the list published last week in the b&w they are stuart schwerin a candidate for president and thomas flecker running for secre tary voting will be held at polls in drown hall university center christmas-saucon hall and packard lab from 9 a.m to 4 p.m on wednesday through friday of next week 61 epitome editors mezey fuld gronat selected philip mezey 61 will be explore broughal future president m d whitaker trus tee h p mcfadden and the bethle hem city school board met last night in a closed conference to explore the future of broughal junior high school bids for a 262,000 renovation at the school were held up at monday's school board meeting and the meeting of the officials was arranged to explore the possible sale of the building to the university board president frank muhr de scribed the switch in pansl as only exploratory but conceded that the outcome of the conference might result in a decision to sell broughal and construct a new junior high school muhr refused to estimate the cost of the building which is presently used by the university for dramatic productions by the mustard and cheese players although muhr told the board that the university re quested a meeting officials here denied that any requests were made and said only that the university is interested in ex ploring the possible future of broughal muhr told the board that talks with dr whitaker resulted in an agreement to an exploratory meet ing action on the broughal issue he stated will be initiated when the queen for a night gaii mccormack the 1960 spring house party queen stands amid her attendents to be crowned a record number of dancers — 2500 — attended the spring house party dance in grace hall jack davidson president of the junior class told the brown and white wednesday miss gail mccormack 17 was crowned queen during the friday evening event miss mc cormack from fanwood n.j is a senior at scotch plains high school she was the date of samuel tuck er 63 a pledge at delta tau delta the 1250 couples at friday's dance exceeded the previous record by approximately 100 couples the event was termed a success — both socially and financially music and entertainment for the friday funfest was pro vided by the bands of glenn miller and lester lanin the four freshmen were on hand for their famous vocalizations theme for the dance was misty music charges totaled over 4,700 decorations cost the juniors 800 and other expenses were 500 despite the expenses — highest in houseparty history — the junior class still managed to declare a profit of about 1,000 last year 850 couples at tended the spring houseparty dance the marked increase in this year's attendance was at tributed to the name-attraction entertainment and informal at tire allowed for the first time students were permitted to wear dark suits in place of tuxedoes or dinner jackets junior class offi cials will decide at an upcoming meeting if the innovation will be come a permanent dance feature saturday's weather was termed perfect by everyone for the many picnics that were held fraternities and residence halls traversed far and wide to favorite picnic groves to enjoy sun sports and food candidates day again saturday prospective freshmen will again lour the campus tomorrow during the second candidate's day this year dr charles seidle director of admissions estimated that there will be some 300 students arriving to tour the campus preparatory to entering lehigh next fall they will be subdivided into groups of fifteen to twenty each group with its own guide this year members from such student groups as a.p.0 arcadia and scabbard and blade society have volunteered to serve as guides for the visitors tomorrow's program will be es sentially the same as that of april 9 with visits to the different de partments and lunch at the univer sity center scheduled it was sunny too sigma phi above held its picnic at ross common manor 30 miles away in a
