group we of the executive committee feel very strongly about this and feel that something should be done he then described a series of incidents in southern states involving mass arrests of negroes he pointed out that arrested students had no money to defend themselves to pay bail or to pay fines a suggestion that fraternity members contribute 50 cents per man in addition to the ifc con arcadia's attempt to draw up a petition supporting the point four youth corps presently in committee of the house of representatives has managed to arouse little interest among lehigh students the corps will offer an alterna tive for the draft enabling young americans to be trained and serve in the programs of technical co operation with foreign countries in stead of the armed forces returns of petitions due yester day from living groups have been disappointing only twelve groups have submitted lists of names to talling 170 signatures eight of the twelve are freshman sections brian bauknight 61 chairman of arcadia's national affairs commit tee termed the results very dis couraging he noted there is a lack of realization of the import ance of the thing bauknight noted that some of the petitions are full while others have as few as four names on them in dicating that in some sections the measure was not presented to the entire group he urged the submission of re maining petitions as fraternity houses followed the defeat of a motion to allocate 300 of ifc funds to aid negroes in current legal battles made in a tense hushed debate between ifc officers and several fraternity members the motion to allocate the money lost by a slim 13-11 margin because a number of ifc reps were hesitant about voting for allocation of funds without individual house approval as a result another vote on the controversial issue will be taken tonight after weekly house meetings ifc officers will contact the in dividual fraternities by telephone to determine sentiment on the for arcadia finds sparse
