phi beta kappa national scholastic honorary initiated four stu dents to junior membership and an english professor to honorary mem bership yesterday in the university center they are seniors william r brainerd gordon w brown and robert g wagner william m fleischman a founder's day grad uate and prof carl f strauch of the english department the junior membership differs from regular membership in that it is extended to those men in the top 10 per cent of their class who have done exceptional work in their first six semesters see simmons page 7 on the panel show face the campus dr simmons re viewed the current condition of literature in the soviet union russian writers take two steps forward and then are forced to take one step back progress is therefore hindered due to con tinued regimentation simmons said music and art also suffer from the extremely difficult problem of regimentation added simmons composing of soviet music has suffered by not being able to ac cept western influences every age must be able to develop its own art forms answering a question con cerning modern art in russia from dr joseph a dowling assistant professor of history simmons stated russia has never developed a great age of painting although a movement in modern art was started by kandinsky be fore the bolshevik revolution len two freshmen sections dravo a-2 and dravo b-4 captured the top two spots on the first lafayette game ticket distribution list by contrib uting the most money per man to the campus chest on the first priority list each student is allowed one free ticket per id card except campus chest winners who may purchase one additional ticket per id card at this time for 4 under the second priority list additional tickets up to a maximum of 3 per id card are available at 4 each tickets go on sale according to priority listings starting monday nov 16 further information on ticket sales will be available on no tices soon to be distributed by the athletic department the athletic department has ex pressed a philosophy of one good ticket per student student seat ing starts on one side of the 50-yard marker while alumni supporters and others seat on the other side of the midfield stripe distributions are according to the following priority list 1 dravo a 2 2 dravo b4 3 gryphon society 4 m-m 2a 5 pi kappa alpha 6 town council 7 dravo cl & 2 8 richards 1 9 m-m ib students to vote in december un 6-0331 climaxing four hours of heated and frantic discussion arcadia yes terday approved the first new student body constitution in twelve years unanimous approval for the new student code came shortly before six p.m yesterday at that time the executive group re cessed until four p.m today when it will meet with associate dean preston parr to further discuss the document working against a tight deadline now only hours away the solons plan to have the constitution in its final form available to members of the student body by tomorrow forced to meet three times in as many days since the present con stitution provides that any constitutional change be presented to the student body at least 30 days before a student election on the change the legislators hope to wind up the constitutional issue this afternoon the meeting with parr designed to satisfy the university re quirement that constitutions of all student organizations be ap proved by the student activi ties committee is scheduled for the arcadia room and is open to the public parr will act for the sac group in deciding upon the constitution should it be accepted by him this afternoon constitutional revision committee chairman alfred moore 60 plans to have copies of the code available for all interested students at the student activties office by tomorrow in doing so arcadia will be able to beat the 30-day requirement a popular vote on acceptance of the constitution is scheduled for de cember 7 exactly 30 days from to morrow the voting will continue through december 9 major change in the consti tution involves a shift in the power to amend the by-laws the previous code allowed a majority of the student body the right while the new one grants the power to amend to visitation day held for scouts see dates page 9 the senior class may have lost more than 100 on the houseparty formal dance class officers esti mate class president tom gilhool told the brown and richards 3a and john roglieri of delta tau delta i espectively rain failed to dampen the spirits of the lehigh rooters as the engineers scored a decisive upset on the bucknell bisons the afternoon was marred by the death of a lehigh alumnus gerald overfield 14 overfield a vice president of bethlehem fabricators collapsed in the stands and died al most immediately near the end of the game he was a
