brown and white eleven reached its greatest height of the football season thanksgiv ing day when after trailing along in the first half with a 6-0 score it tightened up and rode roughshod over brown un iversity finishing the game on the long end of a 12-6 tally the game was one of the greatest upsets in football dope this season and was undoubtedly the most brilliant game played by lehigh this season the brown and white made a tremendous impression on new england the team being considered one of the strongest elevens seen in action there as an example of the esteem the lehigh eleven is held in witness the following quotation from the providence journal a powerful lehigh team one of the greatest foot ball machines that has ever wheeled into action on andrews field scored an impressive 12 6 victory over the fighting brown eleven before the great est crowd of the season brown went down fighting valiantly against a team that was fully a touchdown stronger than the score indicates colgate's de vastating eleven that battered the championship crown down over ol bruin's ears in 1916 gridironed a team that day with no greater line and backfield timber than that which the pennsylvanians deployed ag ainst the hill toppers in the big holiday attraction the brown eleven played one quarter the first with the same spirit that characterized the vic tory over harvard gaining 47 yards against 22 and prevent ing lehigh from making a first down roman kicked off to stor er who ran the ball back from his 19 to his 22 yard line le high failed to make a first down and punted brown did the same finally brown carried the ball to lehigh's 16 yard line here the brown and white dug their cleats deep into the ground and forced a surrender of the ball on downs brown re tained possession of the ball in lehigh territory most of the time but were unable to advance it far enough to threaten to score <*, captain spellman of the new england team playing the greatest game of his career in his final appearance in a brown uniform so inspired his men with his spirit that in the sec ond quarter every lehigh at tempt to score was repulsed and in a spectacular attack carried the ball over for the first score of the game swaney made a poor attempt to drop-kick from the 45 yard line in the third play of the period the ball fall ing short lewin caught the ball and was forced down on the 8 yard line storer then punted the ball back to the 40 yard line a lunge into the line by pohl raan gained only a couple of yards but on the next play swaney hurled a beautiful pass straight into the arms of stiff ler who was waiting on the 20 yard line with a clear field be fore him the end sped 20 yards for brown's only score of the game not once after that was le high's goal line in danger brown had shot her offensive bolt then and there however continued ni puyv „', column •! ) tion spoke about the conven tion which is to take place this year at indianapolis on decem ber brown and white eleven reached its greatest height of the football season thanksgiv ing day when after trailing along in the first half with a 6-0 score it tightened up and rode roughshod over brown un iversity finishing the game on the long end of a 12-6 tally the game was one of the greatest upsets in football dope this season and was undoubtedly the most brilliant game played by lehigh this season the brown and white made a tremendous impression on new england the team being considered one of the strongest elevens seen in action there as an example of the esteem the lehigh eleven is held in witness the following quotation from the providence journal a powerful lehigh team one of the greatest foot ball machines that has ever wheeled into action on andrews field scored an impressive 12 6 victory over the fighting brown eleven before the great est crowd of the season brown went down fighting valiantly against a team that was fully a touchdown stronger than the score indicates colgate's de vastating eleven that battered the championship crown down over ol bruin's ears in 1916 gridironed a team that day with no greater line and backfield timber than that which the pennsylvanians deployed ag ainst the hill toppers in the big holiday attraction the brown eleven played one quarter the first with the same spirit that characterized the vic tory over harvard gaining 47 yards against 22 and prevent ing lehigh from making a first down roman kicked off to stor er who ran the ball back from his 19 to his 22 yard line le high failed to make a first down and punted brown did the same finally brown carried the ball to lehigh's 16 yard line here the brown and white dug their cleats deep into the ground and forced a surrender of the ball on downs brown re tained possession of the ball in lehigh territory most of the time but were unable to advance it far enough to threaten to score <*, captain spellman of the new england team playing the greatest game of his career in his final appearance in a brown uniform so inspired his men with his spirit that in the sec ond quarter every lehigh at tempt to score was repulsed and in a spectacular attack carried the ball over for the first score of the game swaney made a poor attempt to drop-kick from the 45 yard line in the third play of the period the ball fall ing short lewin caught the ball and was forced down on the 8 yard line storer then punted the ball back to the 40 yard line a lunge into the line by pohl raan gained only a couple of yards but on the next play swaney hurled a beautiful pass straight into the arms of stiff ler who was waiting on the 20 yard line with a clear field be fore him the end sped 20 yards for brown's only score of the game not once after that was le high's goal line in danger brown had shot her offensive bolt then and there however continued ni puyv „', column •! ) tion spoke about the conven tion which is to take place this year at indianapolis on decem ber
