daniel resigns from council arcadia wednesday night unani mously voted to join the u s na tional student association on behalf of the student body also adopted at the meeting was a resolution condemning the loyalty oath required of schol arship recipients under the national defense education act solon john talucci moved that the 13th arcadia adopt the nsa recognize its constitution policies and stands and pay all dues re quired by nsa membership nsa is a national organization of by and for the college student and consists of student bodies and gov ernments of some 400 colleges throughout the nation under discussion on the legal ity with which arcadia could effect such action president jack branning asserted we as a representative student govern ment can do this talucci affirmed his resolution was not original and was the stand ard procedure for affiliation with nsa branning continued to explain this affiliation merely requires rec ognition of policies and stands taken by nsa congresses and that these stands were in no way binding upon the policy of the lehigh stu dent body or government the dues for the remainder of the year will be 80 on the national level and about 15 on the regional level according to branning of the 500,000 bud get on which the organization operates only about 80,000 come from dues noted bran ning arcadian bill eberhart moved that insurance plan hit the 430 mark class gift committee chair man eugene mercy says the policies will yield the university some 139,000 at maturity in 1979 the 430 applications represent a numerical increase of 18 over last year's grand total of 412 applicants and a percentage jump from 75 to 78 the goal of this year's drive is 80 per cent partici pation it is mer cy's hope that many of the 22 per cent who have not yet subscribed will realize the signi ficance of the siz able gift our class will give to lehigh in 1979 he said the class of 59 should be proud of their own contri bution contracts are available at the stu dent activities office for anyone who wishes to join the program and has not yet been contacted class gifts to lehigh have ranged from lamposts and stairways to the billy may orchestra on " saturday will be transported from the lehigh campus to exciting monte carlo as grace hall takes on the character of that well-known gambling resort during the week end's featured attraction at the same time many dates will be stepping to the notes of may's ensemble the more adventurous will be daringly risking their money on speculative chances at the gaming tables in their quest for the coveted first prize the coveted first prize a bottle of spirits awarded to the gambler winning the most money the dance a semi-formal affair will be held from 9 to 1 the saturday presentation by mustard and cheese to be given earlier that evening at 7:30 unlike the past houseparty agreement there will be no stipu lation concerning the wearing of i see frat page 8 lambda chi alpha and sigma alpha mv provided the biggest sur prises in normal span report number two issued by dean j d leith this week both fraternities dropped a considerable distance in the dean's rankings lambda chi alpha traditionally ranked in the top half of the 30 fraternity listings hit the number 30 cellar position on the list and went on probation this semester the house retains its rela tively lehigh's alpha chapter is the only one of 23 local chapters fighting tkp's amalgamation with phi kappa he noted the law is completely on our side in this court case flick insisted that lehigh's alpha tkp's cannot win anything but can only cause a lot of trouble in their suit filed against the national last week contacted in his chicago office flick reiterated i don't think the national has done anything wrong in this amalgamation proceeding the boys in bethlehem are just confused when quizzed concerning the lehigh chapter's claim that three days notice required by the pennsylvania non-profit corporation act was not civen in bethlehem as specified flick insisted we intended to keep the corporation of theta kappa phi alive although inactive for at least ' several years we want to hold on to the name so that no other group can pick it up and take advantage of the name flick also told the b&w that charges that the convention was improperly called were not correct he explained that the executive council of the group has the power to call a conven tion at any time provided four months notice is given to all chapters although we'd rather this didn't happen we have some pretty good attorneys and expect to win the case flick asserted answering charges that he and other national officers exerted un due pressure on a delegate at the convention flick said all i did was to sit with him at the dinner table for five minutes he did change his vote but upon his return to campus the chapter voted unanimously that their representative had done the proper thing he added that three chapters were against the amalgamation at the national convention in the fall but two of these have now changed their minds alpha chapter is the only one of 23 locals which now op poses the amalgamation with phi kappa he noted the fact that the lehigh chapter was the founding group might have some psycholog ical appeal but would have no effect on the disposition of the legal case solons at work — arcadians discuss severing ties with who's who publication at wednesday night meeting who's who booted called insignificant arcadia voted unanimously wed nesday night to ban who's who in american colleges and universities from the lehigh campus the action followed a report from bill horton who had been commissioned to investigate the organization solon robert walters motion to eliminate lehigh from the who's who roll was whereas we believe that who's who is not an honor of significant stature in an academic community such as lehigh university due to its apparent lack of consideration of academic values m&c players billy may play to and for ifc whereas we believe that selection of an individual to who's who is contingent in part on the hopes of the who's who publishers that those selected will buy several items from the publisher which appear to be unnecessary yet expensive therefore arcadia as the organ ization which has been charged with the responsibility of selecting mem bers of the lehigh student body for membership in who's who in amer ican colleges and university elim inate the name of lehigh university from the selection list of who's who and so notify that group horton reported i think we should drop out of who's who he reported he had gone through a previous who's who publication to classify schools listed according to estimated qualifications and similar ity to lehigh he also had noted significant figures in vocations of students listed brown and white mercy pipes of pan — concert-goers found this portative organ
