a concert is a concert is a critic turns playwright tom gilhool 60 was nominated by sunday's 100-member intercolle giate conference on government as northeast region's candidate for highest icg state office — speaker at the upcoming state convention gilhool will compete against at least four other candidates for the coveted position should he win he will officiate at the icg statewide congress in har risburg in april over 100 students from schools throughout northeast pennsylvania convened in the university center on sunday for the purpose of select ing state convention candidates and to participate in a model state legis lature they asked questions should the commonwealth of pennsylvania raise the pay of high school teach ers suspend drivers licenses for speeding convictions prohibit coal mining near bodies of water insti tute a graduated income tax merge small school districts require auto insurance they debated for hours — in committee session in the morn ing and in plenary session in the afternoon many of the bills sub see model page 5 the billy may orchestra a tidal wave of fresh musical expression with frankie lester as featured soloist will be jamming in grace hall march 14 for the monte carlo night of the interfraternity council weekend the dance saturday night from 9 to 1 and the mustard and cheese presentation of knight of the burning pestle thurs chamber group plays tonight appearing under the sponsorship of ihe music department and the a n cleaver fund the new york pro musica chamber ensemble will present a concert of the 15th and 16th music of flanders and spair tonight at 8:15 in packard auditor ium specializing in the music of the five centuries before bach this unusual group has won the acclaim of critics as being probably the finest group of its kind in the country the 11 member group includes a one-keyed flute the viola da gamba the rebec medieval fiddle and five recorders the ensemble also has a vocal group of two tenors two so pranos a bass and a male alto day friday and saturday eve nings will highlight ifc week end this year combination tickets will be sold at the door and at the student activities of fice for 5 both the dance and m&o's pro duction are all university affairs but the post dance parties are off limits for non-fraternity party goers the dance will have a monte carlo theme a prize will be awarded to the month instituted in lrhigh county court on friday the lawsuit is de s.'gned to prevent the merger of theta kappa phi and phi kappa on april 29 lehigh's theta kappa phi spokesmen told the brown and white that the lawsuit is designed to prevent the union of the two fraternities until the requirements of the pennsylvania non-profit corporation statute are fulfilled other than stating that the convention was not held in accordance with the fraternity's constitution and by-laws alpha members refused to comment on their reasons for legal action stating that other reasons were a personal matter between the national and local university officials disclosed that they have been notified of alpha's action but would not interfere since this is not an affair of the university but rather a matter between thet lo cal chapter and its national the local claims if the merger plans are consumated valuable property insignia and rules of the plaintiff will be irreparably lost and destroyed alpha members stated this week that other chapters of the fraternity are also behind the move to oppose plans of the national the national has been or dered by lehigh county court to show cause why who have two viewpoints they just don't give a damn or they are con cerned about the effect rushing has on academic activities it's clear the university wants to make the freshman year as much as possible a part of lehigh the ad viser pointed out this philosophy comes from the board of trustees he continued and they feel very strongly about this johnson noted the contributions fraternities make to some of the scholarship goals of the university leaves something to be desired but he said the fraternity system here at lehigh is healthy — i don't know of anyone who can make a fundamental criticism of our frater nity system our system stacks up pretty well he stated but maybe lehigh wants a little better one the economics professor also criti cized the present discipline code lehigh's
