to a fra ternity ' chairman joseph f libsch professor of metallurgical en gineering said the committee is particularly concerned with the character of post-pledging activities the objectionable activities are the mickey mouse-type duties which pledges must perform prof libsch did not define mickey mouse another member of the committee prof joseph b mcfad den described the duties as katzen jammer kids activities but prof libsch did note that if such activities did not exist rushing and contacting by themselves would present no problem it is through their discussion of rushing and con educational experience of the student the committee feels that post pledging activities could take on more of an educational character the pledge libsch pointed out could be made more aware of na committee felt that a fraternity could best initiate a freshman into the brotherhood of the house by giving him the feeling of being a part of a house accom plishment — the accomplishment of placing high in academic rank or the accomplishment of winning a sports trophy the committee also approved the initiation of a freshman into the fraternity's social life on the other hand it opposed ac rushing prob lem has not yet even discussed dean leith's probation suggestion the dean determined the report's cumulative ranks by totaling the individual fraternity's standings for each of the past seven semesters the house with the least number of total points ranked first tau delta phi had 13 points as compared with sigma phis 191 the report also listed the semes ters a fraternity had been ironically chi psi was not placed on academic probation during this period dean leith said he compiled the report to get everybody around here looking at academics in more perspective he described the old system of using only one semester to rank fra ternities as being concerned with the ripples and not taking into con sideration the tide that system he said never brings to the fore those
