in rhc for present freshman class cabinet members of the opinion that conditions in dicate a more extensive study before we drop out decided tuesday night that the class of 62 will re main in residence halls council for the present on wednesday night the frosh committee to study withdrawal met with rhc president dick arcadia changes concession rues by paul schock seventeen and that's an elevator full such was the load that brought the west elevator in the university center to a grinding halt on tuesday oct 28 at 12:10 p.m upon the recovery of the car from between floors 17 freshmen emerged and filing out surrendered their id cards the overloaded were placed into two categories by dean j d leith in a letter to wil liam horton president of cyanide the categories are as follows 1 the first arrivals who may have been innocent victims of the lackwits who jammed themselves in after the car was reasonably well-loaded and 2 the lackwits themselves dean leith further commented in the letter it is perhaps a signif icant observation that seven of these seventeen freshmen were town boys but this may have been purely accidental and in any event cannot become meaningful in the absence of a determination of the order of entry into the elevator car he did not however indicate in his letter what was the significance of the above observation three of the town boys when queried by the b&w stated to the effect that the seven town students were the last to enter the car one went see elevator page 4 odk initiates omicron delta kappa senior leadership honorary will initi ate 13 men seven seniors and six juniors at ceremonies tues day in the university center it was announced wednesday by paul prestia president of odk the student activities committee feels that there is too little states rights in the present rhc consti tution solon jack daniel student chairman of sac told arcadia at its meeting wednesday night daniel pointed out that the present rhc constitution has neither been approved nor re jected at the present time sac he further stated has de cided to wait until the present dis pute between the freshmen and rhc has run its course before tak ing any action on the constitution it will probably then be asked that some provision be made for states rights within the constitution he added in other action the solons heard president larry wright read a let ter from the rutgers student gov ernment condemning the bethlehem police action at the rutgers game over houseparty weekend and blasted the brown and white for prejudiced journalism and the presentation of false facts in two y-lined editorial page articles about arcadialand solon len saari also an sac member told the arcadia that the rhc had too much central power over the residence halls and it is felt that rhc should be a liason group between the dorms and the university just as ifc is a liason group between the fraternities and the univer sity in regard to the rutgers letter which included a statement that topping and several other rhc members although the press was banned from the meeting by topping the brown and white learned that a committee has been created to look into the rhc constitution this is being done the b&w source said because the freshmen have raised questions about the set-up of rhc and ft is becoming more and more evident that the constitution will have to be amended in one way or another the committee headed by ed barber will consist of one member from each residence hall the com mittee will pay special attention to the areas which were questioned by the freshmen these include the representation by population on the council and the social and finan cial obligations of the council freshmen complained that they aren't fairly represented see rhc page 5 significant development president whitaker lauds uc by joe varilla president martin d whitaker has called the con struction of the university center one of the most significant developments at lehigh last year ". . . per haps in many years the value which the university places on the uc is emphasized by the annual report in which the president made his remarks the report con tains 13 full color pictures of rooms in the center this is the first time that it contained color shots president whitaker added about the uc after just one semester we have witnessed what hopefully are the beginnings of a new era in life on this campus special attention was also paid by the president to the research center which bethlehem steel will construct on top of south mountain they are plan ning to build roads and install water power gas and so on so that the upper part of the campus can be de veloped for any use for which it may be needed in cluding residential use describing improvements to the university already completed president whitaker said that the opening of the university center . . . has re leased space in other buildings for conversion to instructional use thereby greatly improving the teaching resources of the campus he said that a major item in this regard was the complete internal reconstruction of drown hall to house the college of business administration the abroad has organized a committee to pro mote student travel this was done with the aid of arcadia inter-faith council and other groups the cul mination of the efforts of the com mittee will be a
