tory to provide better service for the lehigh listener station manager john harmon noted wlrn has arranged for direct long-distance telephone lines which will reach election cent ers from new york to los an geles eleven special tabulation wires 375,225 miles of teleprinter wire 14,495 miles of high speed election wires and the services of 7,500 news men from united press international will be employed to bring all the election news to wlrn's studios in the university center for broadcast to all residence halls and a number of fraternities station wfmz in allentown local outlet of the new york times good music network will carry half of each hours results directly from le juniors selling mulligan tickets members of the junior class cab inet are now selling tickets through out the campus for the upcoming gerry mulligan jazz concert mulligan internationally famous baritone sax player and arranger of the year will bring his group to grace hall on nov 15 date of the buffalo football game tickets are priced at 1.25 and 1.75 k 334 in six movements will be the octet's first offering the work features the first violin in virtuoso schubert's octet fol lows with instrumentation by the group the program is the first a n cleaver memorial series concert made possible by the gift of a le high alumnus who had funds set aside for concerts of high quality the octet composed of all first chair men from the vienna philhar monic orchestra was formed in 1947 and since then has toured all of europe recently on their american tour they played to a cheering crowd of say they haven't received a letter asst police chief melvin l packard told the b&w that 15 freshman opinion is evenly di vided on the question of withdrawal from rhc of freshmen cabinet members interviewed in a brown and white poll 58 per cent were in favor of withdrawal 25 per cent op posed and 17 per cent undecided thirty-seven per cent of the freshmen polled were in favor of withdrawal 37 per cent op posed and 26 per cent undecid ed i'm in favor of withdrawal from rhc said walt ernst dravo housa president i think that the cabinet is strong enough to govern the class the rhc setup should not in clude freshmen he added the problem is not one of 4 but one of class unity against house unity while a class is segregated during the freshman year class spirit as opposed to house spirit or froternity spirit should be developed going out on a limb id say that the cabinet will vote for withdrawal he concluded as matters now stand i do not see how we can possibly stay in rhc skip hals drinker president said since we are not being ade quately represented md since we do not receive just benefits for the money we contribute there is no other course but withdrawal if we withdraw hals continued we will have to ihiprove end strengthen the cabinet specifically we will have to choose a treasurer and strengthen and expand our pres ent social committee from my observations he concluded the freshmen will withdraw from rhc i would like to get one thing straight said ed wagner richards president no attempt of any kind was ever made to provide me with copies of the rhc budget as was see frosh page 7 several of the students had black and blue marks on their wrists and arms after the melee the rutgers men eventually won their prize by ingeniously lassoing the posts and pulling them down to the amazement of the police who were having enough trouble on the ground without looking into the air for lassos but the winning of the posts soon became secondary a targum editor seated in the stands was incensed to the point that he went back to new brunswick to write a burning editorial demanding that no similar incidents should occur and that a letter of apology be sent by ability and pointed out that we must turn more and more attention to that part of our education which occurs before a child is put under the influence of a teacher president whitaker cited as the real basis of our difficulty the fact that we have not seen fit to place our teachers in a desirable economic or social spot in our scheme of things 1 this he said is in contrast to many other countries including germany england and especially rus sia now he noted however that within the past two or three years a trend has developed which if continued will return teaching to one of the most desirable professions and eventually will solve the problem of adequate supply of teachers adequately prepared and adequately motivated the preferred and accepted method of getting adequately pre pared teachers president whitaker said is to make the professions that are most important most attractive in every sense of the word the president emphasized that the finding of room for students is not the real problem today pointing out that probably not more than a hundred of the 1,800 colleges in the country are filled to capacity at the present time he noted that there is a bit of misunderstanding of the things that are said about this con dition he said you can build buildings with surprising ease comparatively speaking and rather quickly some times we don't think they come quickly but compared to other prob lems they do one of these other problems is the acquiring of adequate teachers the president showed concern in see whitaker page 3 solon petitions due on nov 21 petitions for membership to
