by 808 walters band glee club open season with joint concert saturday lowed by bergsma's march with trumpets richard jones 62 baritone soloist will star in the first group of num bers by the glee club jones will sing humble a negro spiritual arranged by m bartholomew lavs deo by robin milford five italian mountain songs arranged by a dr joseph kaplan prominent in the fields of physics and meteorology dr kaplan re ceived a doctorate from johns hop kins in 1927 he has been associated with princeton and ucla where he heads the physics department the speaker has served as head of the operations analysis section of the air weather service during world war ii and was on the air force scientific advisory board opening the 1958-59 music season the lehigh band and glee club will present a joint concert in grace hall at 8:15 p.m saturday of 110 members in the con cert band 40 are freshmen the glee club comprised of 75 mem bers contain 25 men of 62 in its ranks all members of the music groups traveled to a four-day music camp at pocono pines on sept 18 prof robert cutler director of music commented that the songsters learned more music at camp this year than ever before the groups offered a preview of their concert at pocono crest casino on sept 21 according to donald foster student director of the glee club the pocono concert was highly successful beginning the saturday pro gram the band will play march indepentia by r b hall fol topping named rhc president richard e topping j's9 was elected president of residence halls council at a special meeting wed nesday evening in the university center topping succeeds james w clarke jr in other actions rho set feb 14 as the tentative date for rhc week end and accepted the resignation of see taylor page 4 perdotti and l pigarelli drinking song by r vaughan williams and two other spirituals the band will continue with march rolling thunder by h fill more the forty niners by g mc kay king cotton by j p sousa and overture to the music man stephen walton 59 will serve as student conductor directing the traditional lehigh songs next the glee club will render three songs of yesteryear arranged by hunter and shaw and love's old sweet song starring joseph pit tenger 61 also on the program are the mermaid arranged by kurt weill and songs of lehigh which will be directed by donald foster student conductor closing the concert the two groups will present entrance and march of the peers by sullivan and the alma mater tickets available from any band member cost 75 cents a tie or a loss was not what we wanted was how leckonby ex plained his gamble we wanted to win that game and that's what we went after in our point-after-touch down try nelson a member of the ncaa football rules committee last year is one of the authors of the revised point-after-touchdown rule he is one of the few coaches in the coun try who has not outspokenly criti cized it the bitterly contested game played on rain-soaked taylor field gave leckonby his first home victory over the blue hens rebounding from a seven point halftime disadvantage the engineers drove 58 yards in 15 plays for the touchdown and then
