best the girl in the north din ing room answered one jokester this was typical of the humorous and off-beat re plies given to the series of questions which comprised the recent survey counter girls were a popular item of discussion the composite survey respondent requested good-looking attractive younger pretty single counter girls others concerned more with the food suggested such additions to the menu as lobster tail italian food rhubarb peanut butter and jelly sandwiches french fried on ions hash beer vodka enchillad as scrapple bagels turtle soup rye bread italian tossed salad lox herring and chile rienas the lehigh student's mind working at a rapid pace found other possibilities for improve ments included in the raft of suggestions were candlelight cigarette girls more young annual rotc awards and decora tions ceremony originally slated to be held in taylor stadium the ceremony was rescheduled indoors after several monday afternoon re hearsals were rained out president's award donated by the president of lehigh university for scholastic excellence james was son william bechtold joseph eis ner harles gyauch bruce larsen donald garaventi walter pijawka army rotc superior cadet ribbons joseph eisner jack fisch paul kunsman and lan ning steitz david r thomas memorial award for the outstanding sophomore on the pershing rifle drill team john oakley honorary first defenders bronze cup to the junior with highest army rotc academic standing jack fisch american legion bronze tro phy for highest military acad emic standing in senior army rotc class joseph eisner reserve officers association med al roger geesey and jerome ed wards society of the 28th division bronze cup for the highest score in any rifle competition a vinton macphee veterans of foreign wars silver cup for high rifle score a vinton macphee . . vfw bronze trophy for highest see medals page 5 636 replies tallied in food survey contract diners described most of the service in the one-semester-old university center dining service as average in last week's survey greatest dissatisfaction was evidenced with the appearance conduct and table manners of their fellow diners which they rated below average students voted 6-1 against slacks cast more than 200 below average votes against breakfast quality and variety and lunch quality and uni versally requested more milk food and other facets of the newly-established plan were rated average on most counts by the re spending students they offered hundreds of ideas for improvements the questionnaire was distrib uted by the advisory sub-com mittee on student dining service last week approximately 800 of the slightly more than 1,000 given out were returned a representative sample of 636 re turns considered by the committee at a dinner meeting last wednesday diners were asked to rate break fast lunch and dinner on each of four counts — quality quantity var iety and appearance most items were rated average by more than 400 respondents above average by 100 and below average by 100 breakfast quality breakfast variety and luncheon quality were rated below average by more than 200 diners these three items were the source of greatest discontent among the residence halls men student help was rated slightly below average in appearance man nerliness congeniality and effi ciency counter girls were scored between average and above av erage when patrons were asked about the same four traits dining rooms were scored above see among page 4 spring houseparty judiciary com mittee has reprimanded two frater nities kappa sigma and sigma phi for their conduct and activities on the party weekend the strongest offender kappa sigma was severely reprimand ed sigma phi was only rep rimanded by the committee kappa sigma was suggested for classes will be shortened by 10 minutes tomorrow so that the an nual flagpole day presentations for student leadership scholarship and athletic achievement can be attend ed by the entire student body and faculty the revised schedule for classes will be 8:10 to 8:50 9 to 9:40 9:50 to 10:30 10:40 to 11:30 the ceremonies will begin at 11:40 and continue through 12:30 lunch will extend from 12:30 to 1:30 afternoon classes will run as follows 1:40 to 2:20 2:30 to 3:10 3:20 to 4 the ceremonies will begin on a musical note with the band boom ing out the strains of march gloria chaplain raymond fuessle will give the invocation preceding the remarks of clarence wright see athletic page 3 offer 3 seminars 15 sophomores chosen for honors program h p group censures kappa sigma sigma phi censure for creating a disturbance outside the chapter house at the closing time of the party on april 28 chairman joseph montville called the action an irresponsible display of extremely ungentlemanly con duct . . . which brought vigorous complaints from your neighbors disciplinary action was sug gested by the committee if future incidents should be re ported at the fraternity sigma phi was rebuked by the group for lack of cooperation shown to the members of the com mittee on sunday morning at the closing time of the open party unfamiliarity with the time sched ule for houseparty especially clos ing time was also noted as cause for disciplinary action against the fraternity minor rule infractions by see houses page 3 fifteen sophomores have been ac cepted for the honors program this fall dean glenn j christensen of the arts college announced yester day ¦ the 15 men seven from the arts college six engineering stu dents and two business majors were selected from about 56 men who were invited to apply the number of eligible men was about the same as last year as a prerequisite for considera tion by the honors council overseers of the program a student is required to have a 3.0 cumulative average or to have done outstanding work the previous semester the program offers opportunity for the students to devote part of their junior and senior years to in dependent study through a series of seminars the seminars are provided in four areas of knowledge — the humanities life sciences physical sciences and social sciences comments about the program from participating seniors are generally favorable said dean christensen he added that the council is studying its exper iences to improve the program three of the four seminars will be
