the college of business adminis tration has a new home yesterday the business college completed its move into the completely renovated drown hall redone at a cost of 300,000 the fifty-year-old landmark has been transformed from the old student activities center into a modern building housing offices classrooms and laboratories for the 31 faculty members and 620 students in the business college as rebuilt the basement level of the building which formerly con tained the offices of the student publications and radio station now has six classrooms and a seminar room a feature of the largest class room is a 14 by 4 foot mirror-vision window which permits observation in one direction only this will be used for the critique of practice teaching the first floor formerly contain ing the student lounge and activities rooms now provides office space for dr allen dean of the college of business administration and seven departmental offices it also features a reading room and three wartime one-story frame structure will be demolished andrew w litzenberger univer sity supervising architect said today that six additional offices a class room four additional placement in terviewing rooms an occupational reference library and a storage room will become available when space is reclaimed in the basement of the historic building the project is part of the uni versity's modernization gift plan the class of 58 is rapidly approaching a record set by the drive of the class of 53 it was revealed at a meeting of the gift committee yesterday with nearly 63 per cent of the class already signed co-chair men joe gratto and pete biehl stated yesterday that the record should be broken this week and that the goal of 150,000 was not out of sight by any means although there will be no more concentrated selling efforts by the 100 seniors charged with the insur ance sales those students who were overlooked or undecided about the plan will be contacted during the first week of the spring semester paul franz assistant to the presi dent expressed confidence at yes terday's meeting that the 150,000 goal will be reached he said that the 351 applications received had set a record for this stage of the cam paign competition between the 13 solicitation teams has been close since president martin d whit aker opened the drive a month ago the team captained by senior class president charlie tillinghast is presently leading the race for sales team captains for the drive are steve beech tom cuddback don garaventi tom gott dick harris bill helfrich jack hobby john mimnaugh bill scralett steve sel tzer curt shollenberger ned voss and tillinghast the plan calls for each senior to sign a 20-year endowment life in surance policy for 300 at an annual cost of 14 the fund is to be turned over to the university at the 20th reunion of the class the gift of the class of 38 first class to subscribe to the plan will be donated to the university at the classes 20th reunion next spring elected to who's who tuesday january 28 has been established as the opening date for the university center dining service the evening meal that day will in augurate the eating plan under the management of university officials and m w wood inc although most of the decisions pertaining to dining service operation have been made final details have not yet been completed when the final plan is decided upon a letter will be sent to all residence hall men outlining the operation the letter will be written during the exam period the dining service sub-committee of the university center committee has agreed on the following details 1 all residence halls students will be required to participate in the plan freshman will be required to purchase 21 meals per week while upperclassmen will have a choice of 15 17 or 21 meals 2 students will sit at six and eight man tables student waiters and headwaiters will serve the food trays will be carried from the tables by the students and placed on subveyors where they will be carried to washing areas 3 for the first few weeks all meals will be served cafeteria style after the plant is organized all evening meals will be served family style except on monday and saturday when they will be cafeteria style 4 freshmen will eat lunch at 11 a.m and dinner at 5:15 p.m upper classmen will dine at noon and 6:15 p.m these times are not definate nor are the breakfast hours 5 coat and tie will be required dress at all evening meals starting with the first night military uniforms will also be acceptable 6 the snack bar will be open
