ingenious and complicated methods of dealing with the spotted wildcats such as dunking in pots flying in satellites and burial along with other unhappy schools the lighted and mechanized displays will be judged this eve ning by a committee composed of faculty members and their wives the displays cost no more than 25 and will be graded on ingenuity mechanical opera tions and relation of theme to the subject presented displays will be completed by 4 p.m and may be seen after that time for the benefit of those who wish to tour the fraternity artwork here is a list of fraternities and their displays weekend begins officially in spirit it began weeks ago the traditional beat lafayette displays in the process of construc tion all week will be judged in just a few hours lehigh now becomes a mecca for people of all sizes and shapes eagerly anticipating the big game old grads guests and nondescript others look benevolently on lehigh as the school with the team cocktail parties have been planned right and left and many many people will have that warm medicinal glow to insure protection from bethlehem's wintry blasts in addition a smaller number of less hardy souls will probably carry a flask of juice or coffee or some other non-alcoholic liquid for stimu lation not even the weather man can dampen this game tickets for the game are scarcer than dinosaurs in fact it's been rumored that the ducats are in such demand that scalpers are charging 10 per tonight freshmen let off the steam stored up guarding the bonfire vulnerable as the bon fire may be recent freshman classes have stopped visitors from starting the fire last year lafayette men worked see lafayette page 4 by bob grinchuk the big game is here the lehigh engineers and the lafayette leopards clash to morrow at 1:30 for the 93rd time on the taylor stadium gridiron a crowd of close to 18,000 people will jam taylor stadium to witness the annual spectacle tickets have been sold out since tuesday afternoon and students frojpi both schools are hunting up tickets for themselves because of the limited supply coach leckonby's packers want this game for more than traditional reasons a sound whipping of lafayette might net lehigh the lambert cup which williams holds title to as of now a lehigh win would give leckonby's eleven the middle three championship for the second year in a row and possession of the little brass cannon six starting seniors will play the last game of their collegiate careers and will try to obtain an 8-1 record — the best since the undefeated team in 1950 this week's practice has been held down by bad weather but leckonby states that the team as a whole is in top condition this year's team consists of well seasoned veterans who are confident without being cocky last years squad pulled out a 27-10 victory because they were fired up to the point where victory seemed inevitable this season the confidence has been built around the winning of six con secutive games this year's team is more versatile in almost every phase the line boasts an average weight of 205 pounds the offense built around the veteran dan nolan boasts more yard age than last season's squad co-captains dan nolan and pete williams round out the picture with eastern honors aslsfid as to how much the seniors will see leckonby stated all of them will see as much actiqn as possible — physical fitness being the only determining factox the boys have played exceptional ball all year and they deserve to play as long as they can in their last collegiate game pijawka who sat out the buffalo game nursing who sprained his ankle in the buffalo game will also be ready accord ing to leckonby whether lehigh will take to the air or grind out yardage on the ground leckonby could not say action on saturday will be purely spontaneous last year many thought that nolan would take ttf'the air but just the opposite happened the team bulled their way ion the ground noian himself scored three touchdowns of several members of the class of 61 the erstwhile indestruct able and impenetrable bulwarks en circling the lafayette victory bon fire were deftly smashed and the leopard fire was ignited but not without several free and unique haircuts dispensed by irate easton ers two groups of restless fresh men after deciding that guard ing the home front the le high fire and other campus activities such as studying were altogether too boring and subdued for their egos made speedy plans to foil the lafay ette guard and ignite the fire t when the first company of yearlings groped their way to the freshman quadrangle they found that the unlit fire was not situated in its usual place at the center of the three residence halls that form the quadrangle several minutes of stealthy and silent investigation found the bonfire and its stock pile located on the varsity practice field the lehigh plebes undaunted by the towering fences and walls bristling with barbed wire swiftly scaled these ramparts and observed that the bonfire was virtually un guarded by human sentrys taking full advantage of this stroke of providence they ad vanced on the twin heaps of combustibles and after a few minutes drenching with kero see daring page 4 deadline mon for arcadia monday at 4 p.m will be the dead line for returning arcadia petitions there will be a meeting at that time for all candidates in room 400 packard lab by bob cochnar and the multitude pours forth song — that will be the maxim of the evening as the 93rd annual pep rally and pa jama parade climaxes a chaotic beat lafayette week spirits will be dampened slightly by the bethlehem fire department which firmly states that the traditional bonfire for safety reasons must not reach the pre determined 61 feet this constitues another break in the age-old lehigh traditions which have firmly held for almost 100 years the evening's gala festivities are scheduled to begin tonight at 7:30 with a pre-victory pep rally at grace hall neither rain snow sleet nor gloom of night will stay the march from the freshman dormitories down to the rally when this human herd is safely settled in the vast confines of the building known as grace poignant addresses will be heard from football mentor bill leckonby and wrestling coach emeritus billy sheridan at the close oj the addresses finalists from the freshman skit contest will present their inspi rational ditties for the approval and rejuvenation of the student body therein swings sheer rhapsody the winners of the plebe song con test will offer a veritable jam ses sion of the traditional lehigh songs and cheers each in a different in terpretation from grace hall paraders and other well-wishers will shuffle to the upper field for the bonfire and its ceremonies the
