faculty action last spring issuance of mid-semester re ports or valentines was re duced to encompass only the freshman and sophomore classes the practice of valentine proba tion was also dropped dean leith told the brown and white last week this is another move by the university to give the students the greater degree of responsibility they have been asking for we hope that they accept it in the right spirit leith emphasized the only official notice of fail ing work in a course will now come at the end of the semester when it will be too late for many people the dean warned he suggested that those students who do not have appropriate self management skills to deal with this new ruling should either develop them fast or be prepared to suffer the consequences cause it is the same as the class numeral when local fire companies get excited and start putting the flames out the pajama parade to the moravion college women's dorms begins at mo mo students will sere nade the damsels provided they stay home last year a house mother and four or five girls were the only ones left to cheer the pajamed ser naders on saturday afternoon brings the climax of the weekend — the lehigh lafayette game for saturday evening the fresh man social committee has planned an informal sock hop men and dates will swing on the upper deck of grace hall from 8:30 to 12:30 — without shoes admission is accord ing to official communique half a rock drag freely translated it comes out to 50 cents by hank schleicher sliding on the wet grass and pull ing against overwhelming odds armed with football cleats the 61 ers lost the tug-of-war to lafayette on the first try the freshmen were pulled slowly but surely over the line the second time they were able to hold for a while even gained a little head way but were again pulled to defeat the tug-of-war over both sides stood facing each other the tension high a few punches were thrown a few dinks stolen but with the pleading of cyanide officials the teams retired to their respective stands a moment later the leopards charged to try to get the rope 100 yardls of 2-inch line the frosh rushed to the rescue and the rope was saved the class of 61 arrived at the game in a body and proceeded to see tempers page 6 the publications finally made it this issue of the brown and white was put together in the newly opened publications sec tion of the university center instead of one room for the b&w wlrn and epitome as has been the situation in christmas-saucon hall each division has its own offices to complement the off-gold walls each office has brand new gray fur niture fit for an executive however the staffs are still recovering from the weekend moving ordeal editors man agers and professors are still hunting for those well-packed supplies the publications division is the first group to move into the center located in the east wing of the base ment the offices are entered through the east entrance the rest of the building is still under construction and is not ex pected to be opened before january drown hall which housed the publications for many years is now being turned into a home for the college of business administration sno ball plans now complete tickets at 3 a little houseparty — that's the phrase used to describe the upcom ing sno ball weekend and the big winter weekend is expected to live up to all expectations festivities will be inaugu rated friday night dec 7 when mustard and cheese offers its first live presentation of the sea son the came mutiny court martial smash broadway drama by herman wouk will also be presented on saturday night a wild saturday afternoon jazz concert — a sno ball innovation — will star lehigh's own christmas city six saturday evening of course will feature the big sno ball dance a good band and good deco rations are expected to contribute to the success of the dance as a climax to the big winter cele bration the lehigh university con cert band will present the william a aiken memorial concert on sun day afternoon the entire berlioz symphony for band — one of the largest works played by the band in many years — will be performed see tickets page 4 brown and white finally relocated after many delays and postpone ments the offices of the brown and white have been moved from their old location in christmas-saucon hall to the recently completed east end of the basement of packer hall all news releases and other in formation pertaining to the brown and white should now be delivered to the new location in packer hall in an atmosphere of last-minute frenzy lehigh's fraternities and liv ing groups are working feverishly to finish traditional beat lafay ette displays for weekend judging top winner last year was alpha oemga with its huge tom sawyer storybook display as usual the lafayette leopard will be burned hanged scalped and tanned 30 times over a possible new twist will find the unfortunate beastie high above the earth in a sputnik or as the head of an icbm judges are prof and mrs eli schwartz prof and mrs j b mc fadden prof and mrs c w clump and prof and mrs f j quirk displays which will be judged on originality invsetive use of mechanical devices and artistic qualities will be judged initially on friday from 4 p.m to 6 p.m final judging takes place from 8 p.m to 10 p.m expenditures for each project must not exceed 25 the weekend highpoint of the football season begins officially fri day with the pep rally in grace hall at 8 p m at the rally freshmen will participate in traditional skits following the rally the bonfire will be lit this judiciously guarded heap of burnable material is built high enough so that the flames reach a height of 61 feet traditionally the flames must reach this height be feuerbach an engineer and former president of dravo a-3 is president of dravo house bill a na tive of roslyn n.y is sponsoring a unified display effort for lafayette weekend between the three frosh
