frosh tug in jeopardy gratto tells arcadians after more than two years of con struction and months of delay the first section of packer hall lehigh's new university center will be opened to the student body many portions of the large building have not yet been com pletely reconstructed but the east wing of the basement level has been finished it will be opened to the division of jour nalism brown and white wlrn and epitome today since the end of spring semester the university's student publiactions have been operating out of a single inadequate room in the basement of christmas-saucon hall previously housed in drown hall they were moved to allow reconstruction of that building for use by the college of business administration most of the upper floor area of packer hall to be used primarily for eating purposes and meeting rooms remains to be completed construction should be completed in time for the expected inaugura tion of the eating plan at the be ginnig of spring semester accord see packer page 3 the attendant parties as usual the freshmen bear the brunt of the frenzied ac tivity it being their responsi bility to collect enough wood to build a bonfire the flames of which must be 61 feet high in addition to the construction of the bonfire the frosh must prevent it from accidental burning before the scheduled time on friday eve ning cyanide has prepared a watch list for the freshmen which runs in two-hour shifts from 4 p.m wed nesday december 20 through 10 p.m december 22 the guard list as provided by bob shabaker cyanide's frosh ac tivity general is printed here for the benefit of those freshmen who haven't yet seen it nov 20 4 6 p.m dravo a 6 8 p.m dravo b 8-10 p.m richards 1 4 10-12 p.m drinker 2 nov 21 12 2 a.m dravo c 2 4 p.m richards 2 see bonfire page 5 the lehigh lafayette tug o war tradition is in danger of being halted president joe gratto told arcadia wednesday night although i personally am in favor of carrying on the tradition the dean's office may not allow it there are only 16 freshman who have no classes on friday afternoon the time the event has been scheduled for in view of the fact that we have lost two weeks of school the dean's office is not very anxious to allow any students to miss classes gratto explained although gratto conceded that the decision was not definite he stated there is too much examining and too much review in consid eration of too many other things nine members of the freshman class for various offenses such as illegal use of the mails and fire crackers have been assessed nine university disciplinary demerits and 10 dorm demerits five freshmen were assessed two dormitory demerits one university demerit and were re quired to make financial restitu tion for fraudulent use of mails these freshmen had ordered certain articles c.o.d and charged them to another student two engineering and one arts and engineering freshmen were charged with illegal use and possession of explosives and firecrackers and for disturbing the peace these fresh men were reprimanded by the direc tor of residnce halls and assessed one university disciplinary demerit a special letter describing their ac tions was sent to their parents for inebriation over houseparty weekend a freshman in the college of engineering was reprimanded and assessed one university demerit man of half century lehigh mourns sheridan who made lehigh the most famous wrestling power in the east it was of bosey that charles l taylor said when he gave tay lor field and taylor gym to le high i am giving this as much to bosey reiter as i am to le high connie mack said of bosey any eleven looking for substantial results will make no mistake in securing the services of bosey reiter as coach i'll be glad to see per sonally anyone who may think of engaging him the later has a 1902 one arcadia member suggested that the rope pull be held immedi ately before the varisty game but no definite decision was reached by the group no provision for payment by the respective schools for damages if individ uals are caught they will be made to pay but no student or ganizations will foot any bills a motion that arcadia accept the further details concerning the big weekend will soon be released harold roland bosey reiter chosen in 1950 as man of the half century in lehigh sports and the man most typifying the true lehigh spirit died tuesday in florida three times all american at princeton while playing on three national championship football teams there bosey went on to coach connie mack's philadel phia athletics football to the league championship in 1902 after a victorious coaching stint at wesleyan college he came to lehigh as head football mentor dr eugene grace a former teammate of his at pennington prep was in strumental in luring bosey to south mountain acreage two years later in 1912 bosey became athletic director he prom ptly brought tom keady of dart mouth here to assume the football chores the move spines of the hardiest he is a performer who resists clas sification and pigeonholing for even he admits that he comes from strange stock — mostly vegeterians stutterers triplets nailbiters but comment ing slyly he adds i've always been happy his presentation freely explores the compass points of human be havior with emphasis on foibles psychoanalysis jealousy passion wool gathering and bumbling inconsistencies truth says theodore is not only stranger than fiction it is funnier particularly remarkable is the fact that he uses no special make-up props music or conventional theatrical paraphernalia exaggerating and under-stating in sequence theodore exposes to the icy stare of his audience some of the more interesting hypocricies in the human soul he attempts to live his tales acting out extremely varied roles his program consists of a half-dozen skits including one especially written for theodore by john collier variety said that his program was full of bitter ghoulish humor and potent laughs it balances insane horror with insane humor ac see theodore page 5 the annual pre-hostilities peace pact was signed by the student lead ers of lehigh and lafayette in an effort to curtail the anticipated mis conduct which usually accompanies the traitional festivities robert yohe president of the leopard's student council joined joe gratto arcadia president in signing the document which seeks to prevent rowdyism and pock basement to open today drown hall next nine frosh demerited freshmen working to build big fire vandalism during the coming days under the terms of the ultimatum cyanide and its easton counterpart calumet will inherit the responsi bility for disciplinary action to be handed out it will be their duty to secure payment for any damage that may be inflicted and to recommend more severe punishment if the ac tion warrants special attention to the nature and implications of the pact is to be directed toward the freshman classes cyanide will attempt to fore stall any misguided action on their part it is hoped by the framers of this document that a friendly and wholesome rivalry will have another favorable sequence in 1957 gratto commented it is anticipated that lehigh will not be forced to repeat the pay ment of a sum corresponding to the 700 which the university turned over to lafayette last year lafayette weekend preparations are
