it was warm in bethlehem this past weekend helping to make parents day enjoyable for more than 7,000 parents sons guests and visitors the cold crispness of early morning softened toward noon when grace hall filled with hungry families and faculty for tifying themselves against the long afternoon in taylor sta dium the catering service was swamped serving luncheon to close to 5,000 persons who proceeded to flood into the stadium about 1 p.m in time for the pre-game demonstration by the brown and white band only one small hitch marred what was otherwise a smoothly run week end of entertainment social gather ings and athletic events consider able confusion arose on taylor field where parking was permitted as early as 8 a.m and the spaces re served for press vehicles and radio trucks as well as the rest of the fall houseparty's judiciary com mittee to be composed of nine stu dents has not been named because two of the organizations which must be represented have not yet sub mitted a list of names for consid eration by the dean's office the committee which en forces the disciplinary rules for the occasion will be composed of five representatives from ifc three from rhc and one from town council only ifc has submitted a list of suggested see 2 groups page 3 job interviews are cancelled all job interviews scheduled for monday and tuesday oct 28 and 29 have been cancelled men scheduled for those days are to report to the placement office monday oct 28 for re scheduling application deadlines which come within the two week re cess have been changed to tues day oct 29 at 4 p.m hp activities announced for frosh halls a plan has been devised which provides social activities in fresh man residence halls during house party weekend paul ringenbach richards house fellow said the activities timetable will be as follows on friday night before the dance punch parties will be held in residence halls lounges follow ing the dance a breakfast will be served in either lamberton hall or the residence halls frosh will receive a luncheon and mums for their dates before the sec freshmen page 5 no b&w until oct 29 the brown and white will not be published during the next two weeks owing to the suspension of classes the next issue will be tues day oct 29 p haigh who were crowned by mr magoon chairman of the parents day committee jon shively campus chest chair man reported that the dance was also a huge success financially the money received from refreshments and the wishing well covered the cost of the dance and the ticket money could be all used for the chest chaperones for the dance were prof and mrs frank meyers dean and mrs wray h cong-don and the rev and mrs feussle alpha phi omega the service fraternity handled the tickets sold the cokes and ran the coat rooms collections for the campus chest drive total 2100 at the present time not included is the ugly man con test which collected 500 and the pledges which are estimated in ex cess of 1000 the skills all residence holls heolth center open a sharp rise in the number of students affected by a flu type virus prompted university officials to suspend classes for two weeks the decision was made yesterday morning by u e kenneth smiley vice-president dr harvey a ne ville vice-president and provost dean wray 11 gong don and j)r george w mccoy director of the health service official announcement was made at 1 p.m in the form of a notice distributed by universtiy police the notice stated that the health center lamberton hall and all residence halls would remain open but classes would be suspended until 8:10 a.m oct 28 in an interview dr smiley stated that center officials recommended that the university suspend classes for two weeks dr mccoy stated that a two-week period was the minimum time since a shorter period would be useless according to dr neville making up class work was not discussed but there was no intention of chang ing the calendar at this time all events on the university calendar have been cancelled except the football games against rutgers and columbia this is the second class suspension in recent years in spring of 56 school was closed the week prior to vacation will man's search for perfection of his economy lead him to happi ness and peace or down another road asking this question in his address to graduates on founder's day jr.mes p mitchell secretary of labor went on to answer that electronics and machines are not our destiny our future happiness lies in the hearts of men outlining his thoughts on the job ahead of college graduates for a grace hall audience the huxley essay takes scenes from some of the world's greatest plays to illustrate types of love — passion romantic love a love of power love of lust etc miss luce's performance was a disappointment to most of the audi ence her performance seemed downright mediocre after the theatrical triumphs accredited to her in her press notices she was also a much older person than the audience had expected miss luce needed a smaller more intimate audience that could hang the rafters rang as 350 couples swung to the music of the collegians saturday night at the charity ball this was the largest crowd ever and many parents were in attendance the atmosphere of fine music was further enhanced by dreamy lighting and streamers of brown and white the übiquitious wishing well located in the middle of the dance floor was patronized by many couples in mid-evening a dance for parents was held after which the king and queen were chosen the judge the rev raymond
