houseparty highlighting decorations for the affair will be the transformation of grace hall into a segment of new york complete with skyline and winking lights while the party goers sway to the music of dick maltby and bob harry they'll be surrounded by the symbols of the big town entrances will feature drapery festooned with formally dressed new yorkers the main bandstand on the lower floor of the hall will be deco rated with a silhouette of the famous new yorker man the theme of the decorations manhattan towers will be carried out on the upper floor with smaller scale but similar decorations john morgan chairman of the decorating committee has an nounced that the troy n.y firm of g a traham will erect the elaborate system of lights and drapery tickets will go on sale monday senior class cabinet members may be contacted for the ducats and rep resentatives will tour the residence halls and fraternities to reach the whole student body houseparty coordinator frank bredimus has extended an invita tion to all freshmen to participate in all houseparty activities glee club band unite to present ist concert sat the combined efforts of lehigh's 90-man glee club and 97-piece band will result in le-high-fi a pot pourri of popular and classical music this saturday evening at 8:15 in grace hall prof jonathan elkus who re placed prof william schempf as band director will make his in itial public appearance on the campus the band replete with new uniforms will perform alone and with the glee club lehigh's glee club has undergone a considerable face-lifting since last year and is now one of the largest singing groups in the club's history prof robert cutler new head of the department of music will con duct heads of the musical organizations have stressed their desire to make this a party weekend revolving around the le-high-fi concert as a result many residence hall and fraternity groups have planned parties to be held after the peiv formance there will also be a college might be inspired to do to taylor stadium and a fear of what the asian influenza might do to the campus population biggest controversy of the night followed a plea for 5000 for this year's campus chest campaign several arcadians in quired whether the amount given to two negro charities might not be out of proportion with the other allocations the problem will be referred to a committee commenting on the ifc decison made earlier in the week president see hood page 3 ers we will consider it relevant to inquire about his age and where he was drinking disciplinary action will be determined in each individ ual case by the houseparty judi ciary committee commenting on the ifc decision made earlier this week allowing freshmen to visit fraternity parties during houseparty dean parr said the decision was ifc's to make and they made it the issue was dis cussed and presumably the decision was made after due deliberation and consideration dispelling any notions of lack of interest on the part of the university parr remarked drinking is always a matter of interest to college authorities lehigh is very much concerned with excessive drinking we ex pect an adult attitude week's student activities committee meeting proved fruitful particularly for eight campus organi zations whose 1957-58 appropriations were voted upon the organizations and the mo ney granted to each banquet at 5 on sat urday the speaker will be col strauss newly appointed profes sor of air science after the banquet the group will move to the theta kappa phi for the arnold air cocktail party follow arcadia 1,363 interfaith council 50 dean preston parr ex-officio member of s.a.c explained that in most cases the budgets were de signed to permit the organizations to continue operations at the same level as last year one exception is wlrn lehigh's fast-growing radio station whose allocation was increased to pay for a portion of the expenses incurred in the move to the university center budgets for individual classes will be discussed at a future meeting also planned for the future is a general overall dis cussion and review of all stu dent activities the student activities commmit tee decided that the charity ball was to be considered a borderline case pertaining to its status as an all-university function no petitions will be considered for parties before 10 p.m that night parr urged sup port for the danee — not only as a charity but as an opportunity to promote more university spirit parr also encouraged less talk and more delivery concerning school spirit he said
