alumni to see elaborate commencement and reunion program arranged for this week-end series of activities to be opened with alumni dinner calculus cremation and june hop tonight alumni meeting baseball and lacrosse games class day and __ commencement exercises on the program dubois will pitch diplomas and degrees received on tuesday seniors to join grads in alumni events annual june hop in drown hall tonight lehigh stickmen register wins over n y lacrosse club stevens and rutgers class day exercises to be held monday coach baldwin's squad has had intensive training for most important game of season a continuous round of events for their entertainment has been arranged the dance will be preceded by the calculus cremation on taylor field william spencer murray e e 95 will deliver the alumni address in packer chapel lawn opposite packer chapel will be scene of the festivities the class day exercises of the class of 1923 will be held on mon day june 11th on the campus the class day committee is com posed of t h asbury chairman e g schaefer e a wallace and c r wire john l lees presi dent of the class will give the pres ident's salutatory address edward b beale the class poet will deliver the class poem the class history will be read by a willet hicks the class historian the class prophe cy will be given jointly by john h opdycke and john f conlin the tablet oration will be delivered by charles h miller the last roll call of the class will then.b taken and the exercises will be completed by the singling of the alma mater after charles a voss delivers the ivy oration elaborate preparations have been made by the various committees in charge of the class day activities and an exceptional program is promised musical clubs have successful season this afternoon the brown and white nine will meet the strong boston college team on taylor field in the final game of the sea son the visiting team has gone through a remarkable season beat ing the best college teams in the east lafayette fell an easy vic tim to their terrific hitting being defeated by an overwhelming score in all probability the lehigh line up will remain unchanged dußois will without doubt do the twirling with walker held in ireserve the team has been practicing regularly and all are ready to make the best showing of the yea c in this final game of the season the showing of the lehigh nine is a sure thing that if the men play to-day as they did last week against bucknell the score will not be a large one this season was not as a whole a j 01 > '_ i n ml if f ill t-m the team played excellent ball and in other games everything seemed to go to pieces due to this uncer tain state of affairs it has been hard to predict just what the out come of any of the games would be however the team has steadied itself more and more and better ball than was shown in the game last week could not be desired while it is not expected that the lehigh team will defeat boston it at 10:30 this evening the class of 1925 will entertain the students alumni and friends with the annual calculus cremation the final tri umph of the sophomores over their traditional enemy has become one of the most interesting and spectac ular customs peculiar to lehigh f b dorton 25 chairman of the committee has arranged a very humorous travesty on the greater lehigh appeals to the alumni for endowment funds will be made and the checks collected calculus then steals the checks and is subsequent ly captured he is tried 1 , convicted hanged and burned in effigy the parts and characters who will per iwffl tb'-iiight have been carefully s lected and will undoubtedly fur irsh a great deal of entertainment immediately following the calcu lus cremation the annual june hop will be held in drowm hall the committee in charge has spent ev ery possible effort to make the dance a success the blossom heath or chestra of new york will furnish the music and the decorations will be the best that can be obtained this evening's events should be long remembered by those who take them in everything from the al umni dinner to the june hop has been planned so that it will give tiie utmost pleasure and it is hoped that they will all be successful the graduation exercises for the senior class will begin promptly at 11 a m next tuesday there will be an academic procession headed by the trustees faculty and seniors all of whom will be in caps and gowns the alumni speaker for the occa sion will be william spencer mur ray 95 mr murray has won con siderable fame through his work in connection with power transmission he first brought himself in the eye of the public when he had charge of the electrification of the new york new haven & hartford rail road this railroad was one of the xs '. i id<-^i siectriv puwer si^ce that time he has developed the su per power idea and is now chair man of the super power survey commission of the u s geologi cal survey the graduation ceremony will open with a prayer by the chap lain immediately following mr murray will present his speech following mir murray's address there will be the award of prizes and honors and the conferring of degrees a new feature of the ceremony will be the awarding of commissions to those men who have served for four years in the r o t c the commission of second lieutenant will be awarded these men sleeping sickness claims d m bush 22 president's reception on saturday evening at 9 o'clock president c r richards will ten der a reception to the alumni fac ulty student's and friends of the university the reception will be in drown hall where dr and mrs richards assisted by some of the trustees will receive the guests fraternity sports the brown and white lacrosse team will close the 1923 season here to-morrow afternoon when the le high stick artists meet the strong university of toronto twelve although defeated several times during the past season the playing and all-around team work of the brown and white team has been of the highest brand with only three men as a nucleus coach o'neil started the early spring practices and under the new england men tor's eye the 1923 team was slow ly developed the development of the team has been watched with keen interest by the lehigh fol lowers the brown and white clan op ened their season with the univer sity of maryland and although bacb y ucxcaieu the prospects fox a good season looked fai>rly bright the new york lacr sse club was le high's next game and the brown and white lads easily defeated them rutgers was defeated in a very fast and interesting game dur ing the house party festivities the navy by their superior brand of playing completely over-powered the lehigh stickmen stevens was the next opponent and im the first league game lehigh defeating the stevens team by the score of 8 to 1 swarthmore and the university of pennsylvania were the next two league games for lehigh and by a very close margin the brown and white team lost to swarthmore the poor stickwork and weak shooting were the main faults of the lehigh twelve in the pennsylvania game which the quakers won by a 4 to 0 count continued on page four johns hopkins was next on the schedule and the lehigh lads were determined to even up the count from last year whem the brown andi white team was trounced by the baltimore lads lehigh opened the game with a strong attack and score the first count for the most part of this half the hopkins men were somewhat bewildered by the lehigh attack and were unable to score un til late in the first half at the op ening of the second half these annual banquets have come to be an important and enthusias tic feature of the alumni program tables are reserved for every class in the alumni association and con siderable good-natured rivalry be tween the various classes is custo mary the present senior class is planning to attend this meeting in a body and the ; ndications are that the introduction of 23 to the"al umni association will be marked by large representation considerable noise and much enthusiasm on saturday june 9th the pres ent graduating class together with the ireturning alumni will be the guests of the university at luncheon at the commons after which the reunion classes will form in a pa rade to taylor field following the tradition and custom of other years the members of the senior class will bring up the erncf of the procession garbed in their caps and gowns next to the formal presen tation of diplomas this custom has become one of the most impressive in lehigh tradition for it symbol izes the formal representative of the graduating class into the ranks of the alumni association this year on account of the un usual amount of interest among the alumni due to the conclusion of dr richards first year as president there will be an unusually large at tendance every class in 5-year in tervals back to 73 has made stren uous efforts to insure the return of as many of its members as possible in addition to the large representa tions expected by the reunion class es there will be an unusually large number of others who are anxious to observe at first-hand what dr richards has accomplished in the past year and to hear what he con templates for the future the present senior class being a large and active one should be able to muster out every man for the parade and exercises at the field and thereby show up favorably in what promises to be the best-attend ed and most enthusiastic alumni program ever staged at lehigh seniors notice during the year the combined musical clubs of lehigh passed through the most successful season ever experienced in their history the work of the clubs in bethle hem and nearby colleges was of ex ceptional calibre and thoroughly en joyed by their audiences the first success scored by the clubs was at the concert given at bishopthorpe at this concert the glee club glee club quartette mandolin club and quartette rendered a number of se lections the soloists in this con cert were j opdycke 23 and f lewis 23 and both proved to be excellent entertainers the second concert was given at cedar crest and here the clubs al so gave an enjoyable program j opdycke 23 and f lewis 23 sang several songs which were well received j opdycke 23 and f b dorton 25 featured in this con cert in presenting a season hit mr gallagher and mr shean the mandolin club and quartette gave a few selections which the audience heartily appreciated after the concerts at bishop thorpe and cedar crest came a three-day stand at the grand thea ter the al jolson of lehigh j opdycke proved to be the feature at these concerts the solos were given by j opdycke 23 and f lewis 23 while f b dorton 25 assisted by the glee club gave a sketch solomon levi the glee continued on page four the results of the inter-fraterni ty sports held this year are as fol lows : — the sigma nu five won the inter fraternity basketball tournament by defeating the chi psi quintet in the finals the final score was 14 to 12 the delta upsilon fraternity won the inter-fraternity pool contest by defeating the kappa sigma team in the final round of the tournament the chi psi bowling team won the inter-fraternity bowling tour nament by defeating the delta tau delta team in the finals the chi psi team won in straight games notice you will want a copy of the crematorium on sale at the cal culus publication until next fall donald m bush was the first member of the class of 1922 to be i called away from his classmates he died on thursday may 31st 1923 from an unknown disease similar to sleeping sickness dir ney as he was known by his class mates was a very popular man andi did a great deal for the university during his four years of attendance he was laid to rest on saturday june 2nd his funeral being held from the alpha chi rho house many of his friends attended and the deep-felt sympathy of his col lege mates was expressed by beauti ful flowers from many of the stu dents and a few of the fraternities dinney was a very adept stu dent and a hard worker in all of his activities in his first year at lehigh he affiliated himself with alpha chi rho and established himself as a student of no mean ability in the eyes of his depart ment that of chemical engineer ing in his junior year he made the honorary engineering fraterni ty tau beta pi not alone was he interested in studies though for he played on the lacrosse team for two years playing on the champ ionship team his senior year his whole-hearted interest in all the university activities was greatly noticeable
