tunes and money the fast but always popular calypso melodies henderson is a versatile perform er besides his radio tv and re cording chores skitch has con rules for spring houseparty which are essentially the same as those for houseparty last fall were officially approved by the presidents of arcadia and the three living groups last monday the big week end starts friday april 26 the campus leaders also ap proved nine men who will com prise the houseparty judiciary committee which will check up on the conduct of participating living groups committee members include ken neth graves robert holcombe joseph hopmayer frederick jill son david jones richard kramer see houseparty page 8 skitch henderson television and recording star and the man behind the beard on the steve allen show will bring his orchestra to campus april 26 when he plays for spring houseparty dance lord money and his calypso dollars will add the latin touch to a spring is here theme on the upper floor of grace hall after careful scrutiny of the mer its of scores of big-name bands the junior class cabinet sponsor of the affair chose henderson skitch him self is making a return engagement on campus he was guest conductor at the spring music festival in 53 in selecting the calypso band the cabinet felt that there was a tre mendous interest in the music on campus several fraternities who have had calypso for parties have reported great success with the bands money is certainly one of the better calypso bands although decorations for grace hall still in the prelim inary stages of planning the spring is here theme may oc casion a unique use of slides and projection machines on the skitoh henderson sign up now for summer preregistration for the 1957 sum mer session and the 1957 fall semes ter is taking place now until april 13 in accordance with instructions from curriculum directors you should therefore consult their bul letin boards immediately in order to determine just when you are ex pected to preregister a ten dollar fee will be charged for any change in preregistration as well as any late preregistration one of the largest and most unique sets in the 10-year history of music festival is under construction in grace hall for next week's musical weekend one hundred feet in width and about 40 feet deep the mammoth stage is set on several levels tied together by ramps and tiers and is backed by a huge 100 foot projection screen to give a concave effect for slide and moving projection william hollabaugh 59 will control the 70,000 watts of lighting for this year's show lighting director hollabaugh will also be responsible for the four slide projectors made in past years by festival personnel which will pro vide color to back up the music dancing and acting of the production more than two miles of cable has been laid behind the scenes at grace hall for lighting and projection for the three-day show start ing on friday april 12 and running through sunday april 14 several fm walkie-talkie microphones will be used by actors in this year's production the mikes are wireless and portable developed last year by electrical engineering students working for music festival friday night at 8 p.m finian's rainbow will be presented by fes tival starring bethlehem's doris adams and a singing and dancing cast from lehigh and other talent from the bethlehem area finian's rain see two miles page 9 candle power replaces lights lights out — electricians work in a campus manhole to find the cause of an electrical system defect which interrupted power several times during the week on thursday night all lower campus power was shut off at about 10 p.m freshmen with 29 men running for office lead the field in the number of candidates in the annual elec tion of class officers next week a total of 56 men are running for nine positions in their respective classes the arcadia revision proposal will be placed on a separate ballot with the changes listed on the ballot it is up to the individual student to decide his preference on the matter and simply check yes or no in the space provided a two-thirds affirmative vote is needed for approval of the proposal polls will be open on monday tuesday and wednesday april 8 to 10 from 9 a.m until 4:30 p.m with the exception of monday when they will be open only until 4 in the proposed arcadia changes seven men would be elected at large whereas all 15 are elected in that manner at present eight men would be appointed by the advisers of the organizations eligible to place a man on arcadia these groups include ifc rhc town council publications music groups drama and debate re ligious organizations and one man from odk brown key cyanide or apo seven candidates are running for president of the class of 58 they are willard berrien sigma nu thomas healy theta delta chi john hobby beta theta pi alfred f myers taylor e curtis shollenberger theta chi charles tillinghast theta delta chi and members are heartily in favor of the pro posed amendment of the organiza tion's constitution and by-laws which would provide for a change in election procedure the solons reversed their de cision of two weeks ago not to favor the amendment after long and heated discussion on a motion by john mimnaugh pre ceding his motion mimnaugh secretaries working by candle light cancelled classes and sun lit classrooms were all part of the le high scene tuesday and wednes day as a power failure left the lower campus without lights all power on the lower cam pus went off tuesday about 4 a.m and was not restored until early yesterday morning even then the source of the difficulty was not found and the alumni memorial building was still using a generator for electrical power because of the heavy rains tues day morning workmen were unable to reach the underground cables where the trouble was presumed to lie fire trucks pumped out the water before electricians ventured into the manholes wednesday the trouble was local ized between the alumni building and packard lab electricians had all power on lower campus turned off that evening and worked through the night to disengage the cable going to the alumni building leaders give h p rules ok few changes from the other cables workmen estimated that the actual trouble should be found by today coupled with this power failure was one in the new dormitory and taylor hall this one which had no connection with the failure on lower campus was due to a defective pro tective fuse no fraternity was affected and freshmen dorms only experienced the inconvenience for a few hours no rowdyism was reported during the duration of the lights-out period last october 4 when freshman dorms were affected by a power failure dur ing the evening members of
