colleen ward a sophomore at chestnut hill college date of john dobosh 58 of theta kappa phi was selected to reign over the rotc cadets annual military ball saturday night in grace hall the chaperones chose the queen and her court from a number of candidates who had been picked by cadets from among the girls at the dance the queen was presented at intermission with her court the guests of honor made the presentations miss ward was escorted to her throne by air force and army officers the student government accepted the report of the committee for the revision of arcadia as it was pre sented at its meeting thursday night by arnold rosenberg 57 the report by rosenberg in cluded plans for changes in the constitution and the by-laws of the group to conform with the changes under the plan the revised ar cadia would be composed of seven members elected by the student body as in previous years and eight members representing different stu dent organizations before the revised plan can go into effect it must be approved by a vote of the student body in a spec ial election a majority of students must vote in the election and three fourths must okay the change students from the following eight groups will be represented on ar cadia under the rosenberg plan 1.f.c r.h.c t.c publications musical groups drama and debat ing religious groups 0.d.x cyan ide a.p.0 and brown key band performs handel before small crowd the greeks are 315 stronger as a result of that number of rushees accepting bids out of the 590 bids offered to 354 students this year's figures are similar to those of last year when 303 of the 345 rushees accepted bids from an offering of 519 bids in the previous year 300 of the 376 rushees accepted bids from an offering of 517 bids this year's rushing season brought a recurrence of the gentleman's bid to rushees on scholastic probation who were unable to pledge the gentleman's bid was innovated last year for the second time in the greeks history frosh 20 in number were offered bids to show the houses in terest in them in spite of the fact they had to be turned down in the past five years the greatest number of bids was issued in 1953 when 605 invita tions were conference will be held next monday through thursday it will follow the same general procedure as conferences in the past with the conference leader lecturing to various classes and conductilng student and faculty seminars dr terwilliger completed his un dergraduate work at syracuse uni versity in 1939 receiving his b.a degree during the next year he served as graduate assistant at the same university in the department of history after three years study he re ceived his degree of bachelor of divinity from the episcopalian theological seminary at cambridge mass in 1948 he received the de team commanded by john j murphey 57 apo book bargains on sale here tomorrow dozens of unclaimed books will be sold at 10 cents each during a close out apo book sale tomorrow in drown hall room 108 the special offer will be in con junction with apo's regular sale from noon until 5 p.m center ready by september no completion date has yet been set for the new university center but andrew j litzenberger director of buildings and grounds estimated that construction would be finished by june at all costs though according to litzenberger it will be ready for students when they return in september copper roofing which will nearly complete the exterior of the struc ture is now being applied with the exterior completed weather will no longer be a threat to progress litzenberger said that robert e stoudt contractor for the building will probably commit himself to a definite completion date within the next few weeks fire works music prof william schempf directs the brown and white band in a stirring rendition of handel's royal fireworks music at sunday's band concert in grace hall it was interestingly noted by an administration official that 95 per cent of the audience consisted of faculty members and townspeople it is certainly too bad that prof schempf and the band members put in many hours of rehearsal time each week and received such pitiful support from students perhaps we should employ elvis presley the lehigh band conducted by prof william h schempf presented its annual winter concert sunday this concert was particularly enjoyable as prof schempf omitted large chunks of contem porary music which has not been well received at lehigh opening with the famous fire works music by handel the band got things off to a rousing start the amusing little suite from martinu's comedy on the bridge followed star of the afternoon was trumpet soloist sidney luckenbach 60 who played flawlessly in john hartmann's diffcult facilita student leader curtis shollen berger 58 led the band in the glory march after which schempf returned to finish part one with the marche troyerme by berlioz an encore was definitely in order and the brown & white men responded with the popular tamboo gordon jacob's music for a festival two american folk songs by elie siegmeister the ballet for young americans by ralph herman and the sousa march black horse troop
