the 5-town king country club located at cornwall on the hudson the short course proved to be a great handicap for the lehigh men who have been accustomed to much longer ones many of the lehigh shots went ov er the green necessitating numerous extra shots mcmahon was the on ly lehigh man to win his match the summaries singles — mcmahon l defeated early a 1 up pasolli a de feated rath.bone l 4 and 3 webb l and furoholmen a halved the match ; craigie a de feated partridge l 7 and 6 foursomes — early and pasolli a defeated mcmahon and rath bone l 2 and 1 furoholmen and craigie a defeated webb and partridge l 5 and 4 army 4 lehigh 1 the golf team will meet the uni versity of pennsylvania's golf team this saturday the match will be played at the saucon valley coun try club starting at 12:30 at the arcadia meeting held last friday night the new constitution was brought up and passed like wise the plan for the election of managers of sports submitted by the cyanide club was passed this resolution reads as follows : — that the manager of a sport for the following year shall be elected by the athletic committee after a recommendation has been received from the captain manager and coach of the present year this election shall precede the election of assistant managers for following year assistant managers shall be elected by a committee composed of the present manager next year's manager present captain and coach the election shall take place at one place and at one time and voting shall be oral two assistant man agers must be elected and as many more may be elected as the com mittee may choose the voting shall be based on the man's charac ter and an accurate record of his attendance work and spirit shown during the competition this rec ord shall be in writing at the time of the election musical clubs give last concert maroon runners here tomorrow lehigh to meet lafayette in fin al match of season on the upper field at 4 o'clock final production of year at the hotel bethlehem with dance following was enjoyed opdycke features squad is confident the defeat of the brown and white lacrosse team at the hands of the quaker city stickmen last sat urday at franklin field was a great surprise to the lehigh followers the supreme work of macfarlane saved the game several times for the red and blue team lehigh broke through the quakers defense several times only to be halted at the goal by the plucky lad who guarded the perm goal the red and blue scored two goal's in each half holding the brown and white scoreless the passing and stickwork of the lehigh team was very good but the one thing lacking was the necessary punch to score when the opportuni ties were presented the ball was for the greater pairt of the game in the red and blue territory and the lehigh stick-artists made several at tacks which were turned aside at the goal kutzleb stopped several difficult shots made by the penm stick-men but taylor of perm circled the goal and drew kutzleb out and before the brown and white goal-keeper could block the red and blue man he made a pretty shot which went home macfarlane stopped several very difficult shots made by the le high stick-men and by his representatives of sixteen colleges and universities competed in the eleventh annual meet of the middle atlantic states collegiate association at muhlen berg field on friday and saturday afternoons johns hopkins university a dark horse won the meet with plenty to spare with 40 points and scaring in all but one of the fourteen events lafayette finished second with a to tal of 25 points new york uni versity third with 16^2 points ; rut gers was fourth with 16 points ; w and j fifth with 15 points ; dick inson sixth with 10 points ; haver ford seventh with 8 points ; lehigh and bucknell 6 points each juni ata 5 ; swarthmore 4 ; delaware iy 2 ; and f and m 1 point the other teams failed to score johns hopkins scored half of their total by winning first place in four events booth the veteran distance runner of the blue and black won both the mile and two mile runs in the former event he was hard pressed by workman of dickinson throughout the race and not until the final hundred yards did he succeed in passing the less experienced athlete if the^niile was close the two-mile was per haps even closer here again the secomd man to finish powell of rutgers set the pace after the race had narrowed down and it was booth's marvellous sprint that again carried him to victory one of the other winners of first places was proctor who won the high jump when he cleared the bar at 5 feet 11 inches hantbleton in winning the shot put won the other first place for the winneirs lehigh scored six points and tied for eighth place in the meet when croll placed second in the quarter mile and carol placed fourth in the hundred and third in the furlong croll ran his best race of the year and was scarcely a yard behind the winner mac donald the lafayette fireshman who broke the tape in the fast time of 50.9 seconds two records were broken during the meet the first to fall or ra ther go up was the pole vault rec ord which was formerly 11 feet 9 inches and was held by kemp of swarthmore since 1915 haslamof bucknell cleared the bar at 12 feet although he won the event with a leap of 11 feet 9 inches on his first try for a record he failed when a muscle of his leg just grazed the bar enough to move it from its del icate position however on the next attempt he easily cleared the bar and thus established a new record the other record to be lowered was the 220-yard low lehigh university which include the man dolin and glee clubs in the ball room of the hotel bethlehem h s ertner 23 is the leader of the mandolin club and e g mccance 26 of the glee club with e c kunow head of the west side con servatory of music as coach of the latter organization both musical organizations mer ited the hearty applause bestowed upon them by the enthusiastic au dience one of the features of the even ing's offerings were the selections sung by john opdycke 23 a mem ber of the glee club in true al jol son style messrs tonking van ness rostow and stott forming the banjo quartet lost to the ma roon nine saturday afternoon with a 9 to 3 score the jinx is four years old now and this is lafay ette's tenth straight win at baseball for the first time this season the maroon players were unable to make more than a one-toase hit throughout the game but the many errors committed by the brown and white infield enabled them to make the most of these hits for the first three innings lehigh really played baseball but three men faced lees in the first two innings in the third grube and berry got singles but never made third base the brown and white made her score of three runs in the fourth frame after that however the in field blew up and handled the ball like a hot potato a record of eight errors was chalked up for the le high base-tenders johnny lees pitched a masterful game of ball and would have held the maroon easily had he received proper support except on a few occasions the hits were well scat tered and all were single-base hits his opponent longacre seemed to improve as the game went along in the last three frames but three men faced him and but one man reached base in tl c previous session lehigh broke the ice in the fourth adams started things moving by poling out a double to right har wi then tried to sacrifice but long acre attempted to catch adams at tird willever missed the ball and adams romped home while harwi perched on second hess then came across with the longest hit of the day a three-bagger to the center field stands allowing harwi to cross the rubber lees grounded 1 out but hess came across the plate when merrill made a long sacrifice fly to right mellinger was out at first for the third out the maroon al so got one run in the latter half of the fourth gazella made first when adams missed his grounder ernst forced gazella at second and prior could have made it a double play brennan sent a grounder to mel linger who muffed it and everybody was safe ernst on third brunner hit to adams who again booted the ball and some of their runners are to compete in the inter collegiates this saturday at perm on first thought it might be said that the meet would be an over whelming victory for lafayette since the latter placed second in the middle atlantic intercollegiates and also has a victory over rutgers in a dual meet to their credit it will be remembered that rutgers defeat ed the lehigh team earlier in the season the outlook for a closely contested meet is extremely bright however since the brown and white team will be primed for this meet and the athletes have shown much improvement since the rut gers meet according to advance notices leconey will not compete in the sprints since he will train exclusively for the intercollegiates on saturday the same rumor was prevalent last year under almost ex
