years running schier will succeed arnold rosenberg 57 as editor in-chief seltzer previously held the post of financial manager on this year's book while schier was previously managing editor petitions available now for arcadia aid posts petitions for membership on ar cadia's associates arc available in mrs moravec's office in drown hall the group consisting of from 16 to 20 students and either freshmen sophomores or juniors works with arcadia charles tillinghast 58 vice presi dent of arcadia has urged those who are interested in running for arcadia in the future or those who care to work with arcadia's com mittees on various problems to ob tain their petitions as soon as pos sible the group replaced the 16-man committee last year dress uniforms chuck gordon star at mil ball dress gen stuart chief of the pcnnslyvania military district and maj gen and mrs alvin r lucdecke luedeckc is chief of the armed forces special weapons project and is serving at the pentagon a recep tion will be held in grace hall at 9 p.m immediately preceeding the mil ball for both generals the sabre society will have its an nual formal dinner at walp's restau rant and will also have gen and mrs luedke as guests after dinner the arnold air society will entertain with a cocktail party garey about a month to complete the job if the weather is good the contract however does not state any overpowering their opposition pitt has a 6-0 record for the current year and has lost the phenomenal total of only four individual bouts leeman has been laboring over stratagems for the past week and by match time will have a scheme that might make an upset just about an even chance of further encouragement to lehigh fans is the dubiousness of the panther's current record bill hulings one time eastern 123 titleholder and last year's runner up also 115 poundncaa champion for the last two years will meet junior bobby myers at 123 pounds according to latest information myers has an unblemished 123 pound ncaa championships behind him plus one 130 pound eiwa championship title peery's sole collegiate defeat in 45 matches was a 4-3 loss at the hands of springfield college's joe alissi in the sparkling semi-final match of last season's easterns held in grace hall a late switch might pit harbold against hulings and ralph scalzo at 130 against peery if peery drops to 123 he will meet myers whom he pinned last season in 7:30 david bates hobbling around campus with a leg injury will be replaced by captain joe gratto who will meet for the first time vie defelice both boys are juniors and although defelice licked bates 6-1 last year he rates a slight underdog gratto has never lost in the east at 137 pounds defelice has a 17-3 record compiled mostly by decisions sophomore dick santoro fraternities and six dormi tory sections are on scholastic pro bation for the spring semester aver ages from the office of the registrar revealed wednesday the three fraternities are sigma nu sigma phi and psi upsilon the six dormitory sec tions are new dorm 11-b dravo house b-ii dravo house c iv dravo house c-ii drinker razing of tempos means auto space at last — the temporary dorms built during more dire housing shortage days are coming down some passers-by watching the destruc tion gasped in dis-belief the area will undoubtedly be used for parking area another dire shortage not less important than housing needs has gone on probation while it is the second consecutive time for the psi us last fall the same number of fra ternities and nine dormitory sections fell below the 1.8 average necessary to remain off probation of the nine dorms on probation last spring seven of them were all-freshman sections of dravo this year the dravo house average improved with only four of them below the mark leonard hall perennial leaders in scholastic standing was toppled to second place with a 2.516 average by lav delta phi's 2.555 third on the list was dravo a-111 with 2.442 for the first time in history the all-university average fell below a 2.00 the average for the entire university was 1.999 last fall hail been the previous low at 2.004 the all-fraternity average also dropped to a 2.0074 from last fall's 2.034 several other averages dropped from last fall's showing in cluding the averages of the senior and junior classes standing of both the freshman and sophomore classes improved however from a 1.790 to a 1.882 for the freshmen and from a 1.876 to a 1.899 for the second-year men traditionally the spring semester showing is better than the fall's making it impractical to fairly compare fall and spring averages however the spring averages too have been showing a steady decline during the past few years if the present trend continues the average for that semester should also be the lowest in the school's history last spring no fraterinties were on scholastic probation such restric tion as now faces sigma nu sigma phi and psi upsilon is particularly see glick university treasurer said garey would demolish the tempos remove them and pay the university for scrap mater ials glick estimated it would take see lajos page 7 up a 24-point program of their griev ances the red government refused to allow them to present it to the people it was during a demonstration after the reading of these 24 points that lajos first found himself the target of the communist guns immediately after the demon stration lajos and many other students were made prisoners at the university of budapest two days later however they were released by the revolutionaries and given guns the group lajos was with was given the task of rounding up all the communists they could in the vicinity — both hungarians and rus what would your feelings be if you disembarked from a train in the city of bethlehem in a raging snowstorm couldn't speak a word of english and the person who was supposed to meet you didn't show up this is what happened to lajos szabo lehigh's first hun garian student as he arrived here on his way to south moun tain and the lehigh campus however he acted as courageously during this incident as he did in budapest during the revolution in fact this was only a minor incident compared to what he had gone through during that time lajos was a student in the archi tectural-engineering college of the university of budapest when he was drafted into the hungarian army on oct 1 two weeks later though he was told he was no longer needed and was discharged less than three weeks after his discharge the hungarian fight for freedom was in full swing lajos
