fraternity men have banquet stickmen play penn tomorrow sigma nu and chi psi win fraternity sports price five cents alumni boost for greater lehigh vol xxx no 55 tennis team has two matches this week lehigh ready for lafayette nine mercur to play carl fisher in match with philadelphia team tomorrow finals of basketball and bowling tournaments were only re cently played off fine showing of team against ursinus gives brown and white new hope philadelphians have been de feated by johns hopkins and swarthmore council votes for 4,000,000 endowment campaign for necessary improvements rogers is president annual affair marks retirement of old interfraternity council representatives o'neil is optimistic richards gives report lees on mound president stated needs of univ ersity to alumni last friday plan changes veteran lehigh hurler decisive out-played longacre in game last saturday the lehigh tennis team will have to put forth its best efforts in order to come through with their next two matches michigan is the visiting team to-day and from all accounts they are coming to bethlehem with a combination that will be hard to beat to-morrow the philadelphia col lege of osteopathy will be the op ponents on the lehigh courts carl fisher will play fritz mercur in this meet this match should be the best of the afternoon as mer cur has defeated fisher in three ex hibition matches but has never scored a win in a regular contest herbert fisher brother of carl fisher will also play saturday on the philadelphia team and as he is one of their best men his match with beck should be a battle to the finish the sigma nu five wow the inter fraternity basketball tournament by defeating the chi psi quintet in the finals the final score was 14 to 12 and the game was close all the way as the score would indicate at half time the chi psi team was ahead by one field goal the score standing at bto 6 ; during the sec ond half they retained a small lead until the last two minutes of play when the sigma nus forged ahead by means of tw ■field goals both scored by d'arsie from the middle of the floor the line-up : — sigma nu chi psi springsteen ... f hoagland allan f bugbee shigo c adams stanier g .. . hendershott mapes g smith substitutions — darsie for shigo continued on page four nine turns tables against ursinus track carnival at muhlenberg merrill adams hak-vj and bes semer clout visiting pitcher for homers seventeen college teams to try for championship honors at allentown tomorrow lafayette favorite infield looks good to-morrow afternoon lehigh will again match skill with the maroon nine for the second game of the an nual series the brand of ball of the brown and white dub has steadily improved and much is ex pected of them to-morrow the weather-man interrupted the contest last week at a time when lehigh's hopes of victory were highest after several delays due to sudden showers the game was called in the seventh inning at which time lafayette was leading 3 to 2 on the mound lees showed form which completely outshone longacre the lafayette pitcher did some brilliant work in the op ening innings but later in the game he was rapidly losing control and the maroon coach was aiboui 10 beniu in a substitute twirler when the game was called the infield has been showing up much better of late and air-tight ball is expected of them the game is scheduled to begin at 3 p m trains leaving bethlehem for easton will be provided with additional coaches to take care of the increased traffic in the event that lafayette should win the deciding game will proba bly be played in taylor stadium the following week golfers meet army after the fine showing that the lehigh lacrosse team made last sat urday afternoon when they defeat ed the strong stevens team by an 8 to 1 count the prospects for win ning to-morrow from the pennsyl vanians looks very bright the red and blue stickmen have lost two league games to date being de feated by the johns hopkins stick artists as well as the swarthmore team if the brown and white team comes through on the long end of the score to-morrow lehigh will then have a good chance for the championship of the southern division the only remaining league opponent being johns hopkins the stickmen from johns hopkins have not lost a league game so far this season the practices this week have been very good and if the team continues to improve at the rate which it has been of late lehigh should have no trouble in defeating johns hop kins the game which was played on taylor field last week was by far the best game played by the team this spring the stick work was very much better than ever be fore and the defensive work was very good the method of attack has also been improved as was shown several times last saturday the game with the quakers will follow a baseball game on frank lin field the game will be called promptly at 5 o'clock daylight saving time coach o'neil will take the fol lowing men on the trip to-morrow : kutzleb greer brewer cusick springsteen groner fullard mor gan buck abel muzdakis mac bride dairsie bradley packenham hewitt mckenzie mitchell mit man and coxe notice the golf team leaves to-day for west point where they will play the army lehigh's team has been practicing regularly and theiir game has improved steadily since the be ginning of the season the men who will make the trip are r s webb w v rathbone r d mc mahon h k partridge juniors nominate class officers the old inter-fraternity council formally turned over its affairs to the new members at their annual banquet at the burton restaurant last monday the purpose of the banquet was to introduce the new members to those retiring and to elect officers the first speaker of the evening was dr charles r richards who very briefly outlined bis plans for lehigh's future he said that it is his intention to make lehigh a larger and better university and that the alumni are lending their whole-hearted support toward this end when dr richards plans mature lehigh no doubt will be one of the best technical schools in the country professor c s fox spoke next and said how happy he was to see that the school was still living up to its reputationi and stated how satisfied he was with the present condition of things dr w l estes jr spoke nex but was unable to talk long as he was forced to make a call the main topic of his speech was his regret at seeing the honor system pass away to dr estes this was unfortunate for lehigh and he ex pressed the hope of seeing it return in the future at the conclusion of this talk the election of officers took place and the following men were elected : — president j f rogers vice president r j buck secretary f l baumbaugh and treasurer h t litke representatives are as follows : — alpha chi rho — a w johnson ;
