scheduled to sing the monologue from gian-carlo menotti's the medium since she is best known for her creation of the title role moviegoers will remember she played the role of cousin nettie in the 20th century fox cinemascope production of carousel a contralto miss turner is a na tive californian who got her start as a chorister with the san francisco cpera company and later appeared for five years at new york's dia mond horseshoe herva nelli the toscanini so prano was starred in all arturo toscanini's broadcasts of opera-in concert-form the major attractions of the nbc symphony season tickets were sold at the door class officers expressed concern over the small number of tickets sold in advance but the sale at the door enabled the class to over come expenses of more than 400 the shakespeare's rich ard ii was an overwhelming success prof h barrett davis said he was very very pleased with a more than difficult assignment which was excellently carried out by the club approximately 700 persons attended saturday night's perform ance in broughal junior high school auditorium many with dates as part of the sophomore class sponsored sno-ball weekend combination tickets for the play and dance were priced at 3 richard ii is not only one of shakespear's more lengthy plays it is one of the most difficult to edit down to a suitable length for a 2 hour presentation prof davis managed to perform this difficult task while still maintaining the continuity of the story without doubt the outstanding performance of the evening was turned in by bob o'brien playing the part of pleasure-loving arrogant king richard o'brien was superior in the role of the dissipated mon arch who is finally undone by one whom he exiled o'brien a past president of mustard and cheese deserves special plaudits as he stepped into the part some time after re hearsals had been under way as bolingbroke son of richard's uncle john of gaunt david lewis a freshman provided a surprise for m&c theater-goers lewis is one of the few freshmen in the his tory of the club to undertake a see richard page 8 the annual christmas vespers will be held on sunday at 4 p.m in packer chapel the large star has already appeared over the front portal of the chapel and the glee club has moved its rehearsals to the choir loft for this week preceding the event cedar crest college's concert choir will join the lehigh glee club and brass choir in creat ing a service of christmas wor ship through music the 130 combined voices will perform four choruses from the gloria by vivaldi each of the three groups will al so be heard separately the cedar crest concert choir will sing two spanish carols a christmas spirit ual arranged by their conductor wilbur hollman and the angels and the shepherds by
