analogy between this sno ball and the last two house party dances can be further de veloped the class of 59 has termed this coming weekend a small houseparty for several reasons mustard and cheese's fall produc tion richard ii will begin the weekend tomorrow night at 7:30 the play adapted to m&c's capa bilities will be presented in brou ghal jr high school auditorium combination tickets to the play and dance have been on sale this week for 3 tomorrow's activities will not be concluded at fraternity and resi dence hall parties which was the or iginal plan no petitions have been okayed since the sno-ball has been declared an all-university function and will not be over until 1:30 a.m as a result of this action sat see deans page 12 band to give xmas concert two original compositions for symphonic band by vincent per sichetti psalm and pageant will be performed for the first time in the lehigh valley sunday at 4 p.m in grace hall psalm was commissioned by the national band fraternity and received its initial performance at the university of louisville in 1952 it was selected for per formance at the college band directors national association convention in the same year as one of tonight at 8 and again tomorrow at 7:30 in the broughal jr high school auditorium dance dixie bands slated for sno-ball by dan kent see o'brien page 9 richard ii opens at 8 tonight in broughal junior high school audi torium as the first mustard and cheese production of its 71st sea son it opens tomorrow at 7:30 the title role will be played by robert o'brien who was seen last year as sir toby belch in twelfth night and as fal staff in henry iv part one john v thompson president of the club will play the role of the duke of york david lewis a freshman has the difficult role of bollingbroke silas morse seen last spring as charley in charleys aunt plays old john of gaunt jay russell who played poms in henry iv part one will be seen as aumerle others in the cast include michael driscoll thomas griggs ned ray nolds charles coutant peter thyrre jeffrey hare peter schorer david prugh paul miller carlos bullos hayward rowe and william ross most of the minor characters are freshmen and are making their in itial appearance with the mustard and cheese players the play deals with the tyranny of a cruel king the re volt of his subjects and his fate at the hands of his succes sor henry iv part one which was presented last year at this time by mustard and cheese opens here richard ii ends in its cut and edited form the by joe varilla president martin d whitaker has approved a plan to compel all dor mitory students to eat in the new university center starting next year formal announcement of the approval was made tuesday evening by dean wray h cong don at a meeting of the resi dence halls council the dean did not state however when the president had voiced his okay final approval came as a surprise to many of the student leaders con tacted last night by the brown and white tuesday was the first time since the plan was initially an nounced oct 15 of last year that the deans have discussed it publicly after the oct 15 announcement both rhc and interfraternity council lampooned the proposal with two exceptions the plan will be the same as the original the only changes are that freshmen will have to eat 21 meals a week instead of 20 and that the program will go into effect a semester late upperclass men will be given an option of a 21-meal or a 17-meal plan dean preston parr told rhc members the reason the univer sity has adopted such a plan is to dine students rather than feed them according to dean john o leith the center will provide students with a balanced diet instead of two hot dogs and a coke the administration is still open to any and all suggestions rhc was told however dean congdon stated in a telephone interview that the number of meals will not be changed unless there is a good reason when an rhc member questioned the 21 figure the reply was that the 21 meals would give the students see council page 9 by wayne grainger tomorrow night from 9 p.m to 1 a.m the annual sno-ball dance will be held on the upper floor of grace hall this year two bands will provide four hours of continuous music in a winter setting mark hilburn and his orchestra will play dance able tunes parke frankenfield's group will entertain with dixie melodies dr hotson to be cls lecturer by al enoch a lack of controversial issues promises to make this year's arcadia election a battle of personalities only two issues of major import ance have come to the front one is the student center compulsory eat ing plan and the other is a proposal for reorganizing arcadia a summary of the candidates and their platforms appears on pages 6 and 7 of this issue an original group of 32 candidates took out petitions for arcadia how ever only 22 petitions bearing the required 30 signatures came into mrs moravec's office by the nov 28 deadline campaigning is now in full swing with posters decorating the cam paign billboards on campus blotters making their appearance on student desks and personal contact being actively waged the hopeful solons are busy discussing the two main issues — the compulsory eating plan and a proposed reorganization of arcadia the eating plan as now set up will call for all dormitory students to eat 20 meals per week in the new stu dent center the price of these meals will be included in the room rent of the student this plan has met with voilent objection from lehigh's 30 frater naties dormitory men are split on the idea so it is expected to be a central issue arnold rosenberg's recent plan to reorganize arcadia is also coming under consideration his idea was recently voted down by arcadia the plan as presented by rosen berg was to have the vice presi dents of ifc rhc town council and the four classes automatically selected to membership this and other proposals for reorganizing and strengthening arcadia memership will come under the consideration of the future solons general opinion seems to hold that this is a crucial arcadia elec tion despite the lack of the usual large number of issues many of the candidates have stated that this year's results are vital to the esteem and respect in which arcadia will be held balloting which will be held monday through wednesday see two page 4 how about it — this young lady miss israel of 1956 visited tau delta phi wednesday night and her purpose was to sell bonds for israel needless to say she was no runner-up as was the case in the miss uni verse contest many bonds were sold the scholar as detective ser endipity in research will be the topic when dr j leslie hotson ap pears thursday night at 8 as the third speaker in the current co operative lecture series the topic of the lecture con cerns the discovery of valuable facts in literature by mere chance rather than by any ex tensive research dr hotson presently is fellow of king's college in cambridge mass and a renowned literary scholar he lisa earned his reputation in the field of literary research and as an author the speaker is noted for his abil ity to solve problems which have baffled other literary scholars for decades from this ability dr hot son has earned the title of a great literary detective he has the lehigh university brown and white candidate data platforms pix-p
