twenty-two of the s2 students who jtoojk out arcadia petitions have returned them they will be the candidates for arcadia in the com ing election on dec 10-12 the candidates are r brittain adams 59 dean boyce 58 dennis brennan 59 robert s draper 59 hugh glasgow 59 joseph m gratto 58 kenneth m graves 58 robert e grif fin 59 and byron henry 58 sheldon holzer 58 douglas kirn 58 bruce larsen 58 john mim naugh 58 joseph muscarelle 58 alfred e myers joel newman 59 paul podgursky 59 and stephen seltzer 58 john h shively 58 charles til linghast 58 clarence e wright 59 and ernest s young 59 the total of 22 candidates rep ret.ents exactly the same number of students who aspired to ar cadia last year 32 persons or iginally took out election peti tions but ten either failed to get . the required 30 signatures or withdrew in favor of other can didates from their own living group twenty of the 22 who ran last year eventually served on the student governing body 6 solon s won't run moving in — these roommates in the new dorm are shown friday night as they unpac their belongings philip b woodroofe director of residence halls okayed opening of the building although it is not yet completed by 7:30 p.m saturday night and will be followed by the sno-ball dance students will be admitted with their id cards both nights they may also purchase 3.00-per-couple combination tickets for the play and the dance saturday night for this production prof h barrett davis the director has edited and cut portions of the original opus there were two reasons for this first it was necessary to shorten the play so that it would fit into the saturday night schedule the second reason was the complexity of the work a highly complicated web of plots sub plots and historical background the edited version will be a simpler faster-moving drama at the same time however the flow of the play's verse will re main for the most part intact broughal auditorium is a hive of activity this week as actors stage crew and technicians complete pre parations for the weekend's presen tation friday and saturday night audiences will see the culmination of months of hard work by all the members of the dramatic club the club has used this year's spec ial new equipment appropriation for construction of new scenery and platforms the installation of two new scene tracks in the auditorium and the purchase of material for new draperies band to give noel concert sunday at 4 2 bands for ball two original band compositions by guest conductor dr vincent per sichetti head of the composition de partment of the philadelphia con servatory of music will be presented by the university band at the an nual christmas concert in grace hall at 4 p.m sunday persichetti in addition to his activities at the conservatory is also a lecturer in composition at julliard school of music and music editor for the elkan-vogel music publishing house the two original compositions en titled psalm and pageant will be presented in the lehigh valley for the first time psalm was commissioned by the national band fraternity and was first presented at the university of louisville in 1952 that same year it was selected for performance at the college band directors national association convention as one of the eight most outstanding compo sitions for band written in the last several years pageant was commissioned by see concert page 5 settled — this new resident of dorm x appears quite settled in his new quarters here he is shown reading the b&w while resting his arms on the modern built-in furniture many of the almost 300 lessees have moved in already after 3 months dorm x men move in fanfares and a brass band were in absentia friday and saturday but many of the 284 new residence hall lease-holders hauled said he was discouraged at the poor turnout of arcadia members at campus committee meetings i called five meetings o'such said and at almost all of them only two out of a possible dozen and my self the sophomore class the ball will feature two bands this year mark hilburn and parke frankenfield are the artists who will provide four continuous hours of dance and dixie music from 9 p.m to 1 a.m manslaughter and disorderly conduct respectively are still awaiting hearings in their cases white was arrested nov 20 following the death of thomas preston 65 a pedestrian struck by whites car white's hearing has been held 1 iip because of the illness of alderman wallace worth worth has now recovered and the hearing will take place in two weeks white is free on 1,000 bail posted by the pennsylvania manufac turer's assn corns who posted 19 bail on a disorderly conduct charge has not yet had a hearing if no hearing materializes corns will forfeit bail their new quarters in a bulletin from philip b
