which may save students from taking as many spills as last year on the snow-covered steps of the campus dr joseph g pomponio of east stroudsburg has been appointed full-time assistant director of the health center dr e kenneth smiley vice-president announced today he will join the staff tomor row as assistant to dr george w mccoy jr dr pomponio is a graduate of the university of vermont and the medical school of his alma mater he served his internship at st luke's hospital in bethle hem he has served two tours of duty in the u.s navy the first during world war ii in 1945 and 1946 he was recalled to active duty in 1954 and served for two years he is a member of the monroe county medical society the diplo mate national board of medical ex aminers and the nu sigma nu medical fraternity accident toll mounts since big weekend five accidents on the hill-to-hill bridge four of them over lafayette weekend highlighted the lehigh driving scene during the past two weeks the hill-to-hill parade start ed at 5 p.m following the lafayette game when a car driven by jay h wolkowisky 59 was involved in a chain re action collision wolkowisky's auto was stopped on the bridge when it was struck from the rear by another car which in turn was struck by another damage m&c opens 71st year presenting richard ll the mysterious disappearance of 1205 in cash and checks from the houseparty dance remains unsolved bethlehem detective frank donchez who has been on the case since it was brought to light several weeks ago said simply we will continue to in vestigate donchez has questioned jacque r smith the student ticket chair man and central figure in the case and several other students who worked in the cloakroom from which the money was stolen smith repeated to police the story of the theft as he told it to the brown and white during a three-hour grilling while the cloak room workers — questioned three weeks after the robbery — were un able to recall many details accord ing to donchez the detective added that one important factor had been un covered during his investigation instead of only three students the cloakroom workers having entered the room as first surmised many persons had passed in and out of the room throughout the evening according to testimony many were members of the orchestra of the 35 arcadia petitions taken out of the arcadia office only 22 have been returned properly filled out according to joseph leonard acting chairman of the arcadia elections committee who replaced alfred myers a candidate for re-election candidates were familiarized with election laws and campaign conduct at a wednesday meeting actual campaigning was permitted wednesday night campus bulletin boards will display campaign posters leonard also stated that he felt there were too few candidates run ning for arcadia as has been the case in the past few years elections will be held on dec 10 11 and 12 all students are permitted to vote in the elections upon the presenta tion of their id cards at the polling places students who vote receive a ballot on which is listed the names of the candidates the students then ac cording to the hare system of pro portional representation used in ar cadia elections place numbers be fore the names in the order of their preference to wolowiskjy's car was esti mated at 30 at 5:35 p.m near the river st ramp of the bridge a car operated by eugene cohen j'sß was also struck while stopped the front and rear of cohen's car were damaged in the accident donald c becknell 57 was charged with reckless driving fol lowing an accident which occurred at 10:45 on nov 17 inflicting dam ages of 200 to each car at 4:15 on the sunday morn ing of nov 18 an auto skidded into a car operated by aman ollah rokhsar 58 causing 200 school as the thes pians commence their 71st year the shakespearean drama will be presented on friday at 8 p.m and again on saturday at 7:30 p.m the saturday performance will be given as part of the snowball dance weekend robert o'brien 58 will play the part of richard he is a veteran m&c performer having appeared in last year's twelfth night and henry iv part one john v thompson 57 will have the role of the duke of york john of gaunt will be portrayed by silas morse 59 morse played the part of charley in last spring's production of charley's aunt a fresh man david lewis has the role of bolingbroke the stage and light crews under the direction of thoburn v barker technical director and girard gallup club technician have built a complete set of parallels and scenery for the production a touch of pomp and pageantry will be provided by a variety of draperies standards and shields which have been made by a group of sophs feature two orchestras for sno-ball this year the sophomore class is planning to convert the sno-ball in to a small houseparty weekend according to ted rojahn 59 publicity committee member two bands will provide continu ous music on the upper floor of grace hall this move follows the trend begun at hp last spring the weekend will begin saturday afternoon dec 8 with a band con cert on the lower level of grace hall mustard and cheese will pre sent richard ii in the broughal jr high school auditorium beginning at 7:30 p.m afterward from 9 p.m to 1 a.m there will be dancing at the sno ball sponsored by the sophomore class mark hilburn and parke frankenfield will play both dance able and dixieland music when one group finishes a group of selec tions the other will take over hilburn and his outfit have played at various fraternity parties and have also been billed on french line cruises to bermuda frankenfield's combination has played dixieland in its various styles at campus fraternity parties combination tickets to the play and dance are foundation at yale uni versity wj.ll be the featured speaker and the leader of the ninth confer ence on religion sponsored by the interfaith council next monday through wednesday dr fischoff is a distinguished jewish rabbi and educator he received his bachelor of arts degree from the college of the city of new york and his doctor of science degree from the new york school of social research he has lectured at many institu tions including perm state the uni versity of california and city col lege . a part of the schedule activities on the program includes lectures in classes in the times available in structors who wish to have dr fischoff lecture in any of their classes should contact chaplain ray mond fuessele this fall's conference is scheduled to be led by jewish leaders in
